1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2021

Yes in the 2005 Nissan Xterras there is no floating arm device within the fuel sending unit. Which is what is causing the vehicle to have the fuel gauge on the front dash panel to read incorrectly to the electronic screen. It also doesn't report your dte on the dash panel because the fuel sending unit has been corroded, or was made of plastic, and has been completely damaged. So now when the vehicle sits while started for a long period of time the fuel gauge will go to empty but remain running, or you could fill your vehicle up all the way with gas, and then when you start the Xterra, the vehicle will then show empty still until it was at 3 quarters of the tank, then it will read it at 3 quarters of a tank until half a tank. Unless the vehicle sits to long without moving, then vehicle will show the fuel gauge on the front dash panel to be empty. This is unsafe because it will cause Nissan Xterras to run out of gas on the road which could lead to front, side, rear, and rollover crashes.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2017

While driving my Xterra which has 65000 miles approximately, my gas gauge dropped from 3/4 tank to below empty. My check engine light came on and my car immediately stopped in the road. I had to be towed where I was told I have p0463 and my car was out of gas. I was told this is a major problem with. Issa Xterra. I went to dealer to get it replaced and they said $700. I see that this is too common an issue. I think the manufacturer should be responsible for this defect. I'm just happ happy I wasn't driving on the highway when it stopped. Luckily I was on side road.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Service engine soon light when fuel goes below half tank. The fuel gauge may not always show correct reading, makes it possible for car to stop in middle of highway, in middle of snow-storm, or other dangerous situation, the service engine light comes on when fuel level is below half tank and resets itself when fuel tank is full.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2012

Last year, 10/29/12, I noticed my gas gauge showing empty when I had slightly more than 1/4 tank of gas, but needle moved once truck warmed up and started moving. Then last month the check engine light came on. Nissan is telling me I have to pay roughly $600. 00 to fix the fuel level sensor (code p0463). My truck has not even 38,000 miles on it. Now I didn't pass inspection. I strongly believe that Nissan should be responsible for this repair and recall due to this part.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

I was driving my car after a long trip, I had about a quarter tank left. I parked my car and when I returned to use it to run an errand I began to drive. My gas tank needle went all the way to below empty then my check engine light turned on as well. I have looked up this issue and found out there were multiple complaints about the exact same thing that happened to me. This is a Nissan issue that should not be taken out of pocket from the consumer. Especially since there is a long history regarding this exact same problem.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

My 2005 Nissan Xterra has experienced a fuel sending unit failure. After researching this problem online, I have found that this is a know problem for this year and model. Nissan does not recognize it as problem, nor will they cover it under warranty. This is such a problem that there is over a 2 week wait to get the parts to correct the problem. The gas gauge will alternately read different fuel levels. When the tank is full, it reads that the tank is empty and the low fuel light is lit. It will then correct itself, and only register to a 1/4 of a tank. After it reaches that level, it will no longer give an accurate reading and at times will once again read an empty tank.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2011

My 2005 Nissan Xterra has problems with the fuel sending unit. The gas gauge will read at a quarter of a tank, when in fact there is no gas at all. It seems this occurs very often is other models older and newer, however the warranty is only covered up to 36000 miles. It seems to be that most people come across this issue well after the warranty expires. I would like to express my shame with Nissan for not backing their products and putting dealerships under the pressure to charge customers to replace these faulty items, when it is their responsibility to provide for the safety of their consumers with reliable parts. I understand that there is a certain "wear and tear" that all cars incur, but faulty fuel sending units? I can be sure that this is not a common wear and tear item because if it was, other makes and models would need to replace it more often or within the 36000 mile criteria.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2011

I got on the freeway and my car stopped gassing. I was on fast lane and avoided an accident pulling to the shoulder. I was going about 65-70 mph. Found out later my fuel sensor malfunctioned. I had no gas in my tank where at the time of incident it showed a full tank.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

I have the same issue as described in recall #10v075000. This affected 2006 Nissan Xterras, mine is a 2005. The fuel gauge drops to empty when the tank is filled, after driving awhile it starts to climb back up to read near full, then it will appears to decrease as normal, but you never know how much fuel is actually in the tank, so you have to base it on miles traveled. The problem is you never know if the station attendant (I live in or so you can't fill your own vehicle with gas) has actually filled the tank or did it click off early again, which it frequently does. So you can run out of gas easily, because you have a fuel gauge that doesn't function correctly. This has been going on since about 2011, but I'm tired of dealing with it. Don't know the actual date when this problem started, but it has been ongoing.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2010

Fuel gauge stuck at 3/4 tank after fuel up. Needle will not move and is inaccurate. Several other report same issue related to fuel sending units on Nissan trucks and SUV's 2005-2008.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

2005 Nissan Xterra-fuel sensor went out, therefore you have no idea how much fuel is in the tank. This causes the engine to quit even while driving. Crashes are inevitable with your engine dying. Parts and labor $600. 00+.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2009

Fuel sensor in 2005 Nissan Xterra is giving faulty readings ---Nissan knows there is a problem and have issued a partial recall, but it does not even come close to the actual models involved. The first time this happened to me, I assumed I had gas as the gauge read 1/4 tank. I ran out of gas on the highway between towns, and had to call for help. Since then, if the gauge gets down to just under 1/2, the check engine light comes on and the needle falls to the bottom and reads empty. I have to track my gas usage by mileage, and on trips this is a huge pain.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2009

I have a 2005 Xterra with around 50k miles on it. The down to empty mileage has recently not been calculating and last night when I went to fill up the needle wouldn't raise to a full tank. This morning my service engine soon light came on and hasn't gone off since. I have done some research online only to find that several other 2005 Xterra owners have had this same problem. It supposedly has to do with the fuel sensor unit. This has been recalled in prior models of the Xterra. I am hoping that I am not going to have to pay over 600$ to get this fixed considering it is dangerous and could cause sudden stops and/or fire.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra; and a few months ago, the gas gauge stopped accurately reporting the level of gas in the tank. In addition, the "service" light came on (and stayed on) preventing me from passing inspection. After doing some research, I discovered that there are many other occurrences of this problem with various Nissan models in the "2005" (etc) year. This is a relatively expensive repair (approximately $500) for a fuel gauge sending unit replacement; and if not repaired, we who have this problem all run the risk of running out of gas, possibly under dangerous high speed road conditions! despite the fact that this is apparently a "faulty part" supplied by Nissan, the company has not offered to post a recall and/or pay for this repair. With the number of complaints, and the possible dangerous repercussions of not knowing when the vehicle will run out of gas, I believe that Nissan should replace this part at no charge to the consumer.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2009

Fuel tank sending unit. Nissan has had cronic problems with five different models over the past five years. Contacted Nissan with no sucess. This is a design problem that Nissan should cover.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

There was no specific event leading up to failure; I purchased my certified pre-owned '05 Xterra 4 months ago and drove it up until yesterday without problem. When I turned on my vehicle after work, my "service engine soon" light was on. I stopped to fill up with gas on my way home, and noticed my gas gauge would not pass the 3/4 tank position. Eventually, after driving about 50 miles or so, my gas gauge (sometimes) returns to its normal position. The "service engine soon" light always remains on. At this point, no corrective measures have been taken. But in doing my research, all signs point towards this being a fuel sending unit problem that is common in both 01-04 Nissan vehicles (for which there was a recall) and 05-present Nissan vehicles (for which there has been no recall).

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

We have a 2005 Nissan Xterra and am having the same fuel sensor issue as so many others. We fill up and the gas gauge does not register. The check engine light is on and this causes us to not pass emissions until it is fixed, which is a 600. 00+ issue since the gas tank needs removed to fix it. Very frustrating since a simple search of the web shows hundreds of Nissans in or around 1 year difference with the exact same problem! Nissan recalls more than 500,000 vehicles regarding:fuel gauge problem, source of many complaints, being addressed I called my local Nissan dealer, they reported that my 2005 Xterra VIN# wasn't part of the recall.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2008

Fuel gage is not accurate and erratic sometimes, when full tank it shows only 3/4 on the gage and check engine light is on.
