Nissan's x-terra off-road edition model is experiencing fuel gauge failures at or after 45,000 miles. I have owned two identical vehicles, sold one, have one remaining that my mother drives. Both SUV's have experienced identical fuel gauge failures. An internet search reveals that I am far from being alone in experiencing this issues as the pathfinder model is also seeing the same failures indicating there's a deeper problem here. The failures are starting to occur as early as 45,000 miles which is slightly outside the standard 36,000 mile warranty period. This in turn ends up putting the cost for repairing this defect back on the customer to the tune of $500 to $700. Much of this cost is due to the labor charge incurred in pulling off the fuel tank to access the sending unit. It is unreasonable to expect a fuel sender gauge failure at 45,000 miles as there are millions of vehicles on the road that do not experience this problem at all during their operational lifetimes. It is my sincere hope that the NHTSA will investigate and force Nissan to replace this defective fuel sending gauge.
The fuel gauge on my 2005 Nissan Xterra se does not read accurately. When I fill the tank the display needle drops to below "e" and shows the fuel warning light illuminates. This began in November 2009 with about 70k miles on the vehicle. Nissan recently issued a recall for this very problem but limited it to model year 2006 and 2008 Xterra's. Nissan wants to charge me almost $600+ to fix the problem on my 2005. A simple google search of 'xterra fuel gauge' will show many more complaints from people with 2005 and 2007 Xterra's. These should be included in the recall.
Gas gauge- gas level is near 1/4 of tank. Vehicle is turned off for a few hours and when turned back on gas level reads empty. The gauge does not move from empty position and does not register any gas in the vehicle. At times when this occurs and I have placed gas in the vehicle the gas gauge still will not move from a stuck position. I have not replaced or repaired gauge although I am still under warranty, I feel that this is a safety concern and should be addressed. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel sensor in the fuel tank failed which also affects the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge may indicate that the fuel tank was full; however, it could actually be empty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer after a diagnostic test and they informed her that the fuel sensor needed to be replaced. The repair cost was $700 and there were no recalls or related warranties for her model year vehicle. The Nissan manufacturer was called and informed her that there was nothing they could. The failure mileage was 56,000.
I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra. Approx. 2 weeks ago I went to fill up the tank and the gas gauge did not move, and the service engine soon light came on. I had not had any indication of a problem up until that day. I went to the dealer who said is was some fuel sensor that needed to be replaced that would be 400. 00 to fix (which I priced I a different repair shop and it was ~ 30 dollars cheaper). I declined to get it fixed right away because I did not have the money. A few days later, the service engine soon light went off and the gauge was working again, but then the light came back on again after I filled my car up again. I hope that this part will get recalled since so many people have had issues with this part in their vehicle. My car has a little under 70,000 miles on it.
Every time I fill up the gas tank, the gauge does not show the actual new level. It will show the pre-fill up level for 2 days. At the same time the "service engine soon" light comes on. This is a know design error in the fuel level sensor. It occurs every time I fill up my gas tank.
I have 2005 Nissan Xterra. It has a fuel gauge problem. It is always giving me the wrong reading of how much fuel I have in my tank even after I completely fill up. This started to happen suddenly with nothing that caused it. This is a hazard because I am having to constantly estimate how much fuel I have left and constantly filling up my tank to make sure that I have enough fuel.
2005 Nissan Xterra experiences same problem with faulty fuel gauge sensor as numerous other Nissan cars/trucks manufactured between 2006 and 2008. These other models are currently experiencing recall, but Nissan has refused to issue a recall for the 2005 Xterra with the same problem. A complaint has been lodged with north american Nissan. When the fuel tanks runs to about half empty (judging from miles driven), the fuel gauge needle no longer reflects the true fuel level and remains stuck at around half, while the obd light comes on. Reading the obd code sometimes shows p0463 for fuel sensor circuit malfunction. Subsequently, when the engine runs to about 3/4 empty, the fuel sensor shows an empty tank. Upon fully refueling, the fuel gauge sometimes returns to 2/3 level at the first engine restart, and after driving a certain distance, returns to full. The symptoms are consistent with descriptions of the fuel gauge sensor failure in Nissan models named in the current recall.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The fuel gauge inaccurately displays the amount of fuel present in the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician concluded that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. . The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 78,400.
The gas gauge on my 2005 Nissan Xterra does not work. This means, even though I fill up my tank, it shows that my car is on empty. This is incredibly dangerous as at any given time, I don't know whether I have enough gas to get from one place to another. This problem has been persisting since it first occurred. I've had this problem for 6+ months! I know of other Xterra owners who have the same problem. A recall is definitely called for.
2005 Nissan Xterra. Defective fuel sensor gives erroneous gasoline gauge readings and activates a warning light "service engine soon". Repair involves removal of fuel tank. Internet searches reveal that this a common complaint among Nissan vehicles. Nissan has not issued a recall on this.
Failure of the fuel sending unit. Driving along and fuel gauge went to empty even though I had 3/4 of a tank left. It occurs every time I get below half a tank of fuel. When its cold. Sometimes it comes back up sometimes it doesn't.
2005 Nissan Xterra fuel sensor failure. 61000 miles. Fuel gauge suddenly stopped working. Ran out of gas on 4 lane highway with gas gauge showing 1/2 tank remaining. This model is not included in Nissan 2 March 2010 fuel sensor recall even though parts are identical. Same problem occurred with my 2007 Nissan Xterra at 63000 miles. This vehicle is also not part of the recall.
1. (the events leading up to the failure)-I went to the gas station to fill up because my 2005 Nissan Xterra was less than 1/4 tank full. I filled it up all the way and drove off. I looked at the gas gauge and it still read under 1/4 tank. Soon after the ses (service engine soon) light came on. 2. (the failure, how often it occurs, its consequences)- I looked up online what the possible issue could be. In searching over several forums, and over 100 complaints, I found the issue to be error code: p0463 (fuel level sensor). It occurs everyday. The consequences, I never know how much fuel is in my tank. As a matter of fact. I ran out of gas suddenly in the middle of nowhere. I was lucky enough someone helped me get fuel. This is a major issue. 3. (what was done to correct the failure) I have done nothing so far, because it is such a common issue, that it should be recalled. It is roughly a $600 repair issue that should be recalled by Nissan. I only have 51,513 miles on my 2005 Nissan Xterra.
Teenage daughter ran out of gas at night while gauge registered nearly a full tank! she was under the impression that her father must have recently filled the tank, which obviously was not the case. The gauge registers full when it's not and empty when it's not! received "code pewee fuel censor a too high" after researching, I see that this is, and has been, an issue with Xterras! and for older generations there was a recall. However for this model we were not notified of any issue thereby putting my daughter at risk.
Nissan Xterra 2005, fuel sending unit and service engine soon light. Erratic read on the gas needle, going from fuel to half and then to empty while tha gas tank is full. Error code p0463.
I had less than a 1/4 of a tank of fuel on my 2005 Xterra s and I stopped to fill it up. Gas gauge seemed to be working fine when I parked it. Later moved the vehicle , the check engine soon light came on and the fuel gauge read e, and the low fuel light came on.
2005 Nissan Xterra fuel level sensor malfunction. With mis-reading on the fuel level, the vehicle may run out of fuel when it appears to have plenty of fuel in the tank, causing a safety hazard. This is a very common problem on '05+ Nissan Xterra and pathfinder SUV's. These are usually correlated with a po463 emission failure code.
My Nissan Xterra is having a fuel gauge/sensor problem which results in the driver having no idea how much fuel is in the gas tank. This is a very common problem on Nissan Xterras, pathfinders and frontiers. All one needs to do is an internet search to see how common this problem is. Nissan has not issued a recall and will not cooperate with me in getting this fixed. The cost of the repair is between $300-500 (most of which is labor) and a vehicle can not pass inspection if they have this problem. I have already run out of gas in a not so nice area while going 55 mph and controlling the vehicle/getting it to the side of the road was difficult when it was out of gas. I was fearful of not only the difficulty in handling/dealing with the vehicle in a safe manner so as to not cause an accident but imagine my surprise that was out of gas and I could not tell because of the faulty sensor not indicating actually how much gas was in the car. I was fearful for my safety because this happened on a highway in a not so nice area in the metro nyc area. All one needs to do is an internet search on Nissan fuel gauge or sensor problems and will see many complaints about this issue. Nissan has recalled earlier models for this same issue but has not recalled any vehicles from 2005 on for this defective problem. A Nissan mechanic at a local dealership told me that this was a common problem on Xterras, pathfinders and frontiers and wished me good luck in getting Nissan to fix it under a recall since he thought it was highly unlikely that Nissan would do anything about it. I have contacted Nissan consumer affairs about this issue and they were not helpful at all. They basically told me that Nissan will not repair this issue since there is no recall on it even though this is a very common problem on their vehicles.
In my 2005 Nissan Xterra, my fuel gauge began not reading correctly once it got below 1/4 tank. When I fill it up, it doesn't always register that I put gas in. Now my service engine soon light keeps coming on for days at a time. It will go off for a few days, then come on again.
My 2005 Xterra check engine light just went on and after testing my ecu I received error code p0463, which is a faulty fuel level sensor. This condition can cause potentially dangerous conditions for people traveling at high speed who are under the impression they still have gas in their tank when in fact they do not.
No specific events leading to failure. Standard use of the 2005 Nissan Xterra and the failure has occurred at approximately 70k miles on the car. . The failure is the fuel sensor gauge which causes the gas gauge to be inaccurate at all times. It will go from full to empty in 1 second while you are headed down the road. Other times it will show half tank when the tank is empty. It happens every time we are in the car. Consequences could be fatal if we had not caught on to the issue. At any point we run the risk of running out of gas due to an error in the way the gauge is reading. . We are forced to track miles on the odometer each time we fill up. Nothing has been done by me at this point. Nissan has acknowledged the issue by recalling 2006+ models and extending the warranty to 72k miles on the 2005 models. Our car now has 90k miles on it so we do not meet either of their "safety" fixes.
My 2005 Xterra check engine light just went on and after testing my ecu I received error code p0463, which is a faulty fuel level sensor. This condition can cause potentially dangerous conditions for people traveling at high speed who are under the impression they still have gas in their tank when in fact they do not. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Thank you for your consideration.
205 Nissan Xterra. At approx 65,000mi, fuel gauge started going to empty after filling the tank and check engine light came on. After 40-60 miles driven, fuel gauge begins to read again, but is inaccurate.
2005 Nissan Xterra's check engine light came on. Took it to autozone to have them check the error codes and the test resulted with a p0463 code (fuel level sensor circuit high input). I have notices problems with the fuel gauge being stuck on empty with low fuel indicator light on even after filling tank to full. After driving for few days the gauge eventually and slowly begin to indicate fuel. I've since read many forums on Nissan SUV's that have same issue.
My 2005 Nissan x-terra's fuel gauge works intermittently and its functionality is tied to a "service engine soon" light. The gauge will read empty even when there is gas in the tank. This seems to be a common issue with Nissans.
Fuel gauge problem and service engine soon light I just got back from the dealer w/ my 2005xterra se. I have a similar problem. My ses light comes on and my dte gauge reads ---- when the fuel gauge gets down to 1/4 of a tank. The dealer told me it registered error code po463 and that I need a new fuel sending unit. Since my Xterra has 56000 miles on it is not covered by warranty. They tell me approx $600. 00 to fix. In my case the ses light resets after approx 300 miles. As long as I keep the gas more than 1/4 of a tank the ses light won't come on.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective as it would indicate that the fuel tank was â¼ full and suddenly indicate that it was empty. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who informed the contact that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileages was approximately 76,000. The current mileage was approximately 100,000.
I had 1/2 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. This has happened the last two weeks in a row. After doing research online, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. Loyal Nissan customers should not have to pay for something that is clearly a defect on Nissan's part.
I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra that the fuel sensor went out. When you fill up the tank it will drop down and say its empty. So you have to write down the mileage so you know how much is in it. What I have read is this is a big problem that goes back to the early 2000's.
I have been experiencing issues with my fuel gauge on my 2005 Nissan Xterra. I can no longer place trust in the gauge, since I have run out of gas twice now, while the gauge still showed fuel available in the tank. The error codes on the computer module state it is the fuel sending unit. I have spoken with Nissan and they refused to rectify this issue.
Inaccurate fuel gauge leading to inaccurate fuel readings; the gauge may show gas left when tank is actually empty or vice versa; all digital dash readings and components short out or completely stop working including mileage readings; have to continually fill up with gas to ensure I have enough to run the vehicle; I have run out of gas while traveling at 80 miles per hour on the highway several times, this is a very serious safety hazard; I have two small children traveling with me and do not need to run out of gas on the side of the highway. This vehicle has never been in an accident but has had this problem for over a year.
I filled the tank in our 05 Xterra only to find that the gas gauge was not acknowledging the fill up. A few minutes later the gauge dropped to empty, and then the fuel light and check engine light came on. Now, the fuel gauge does not work at all and the repair estimates are $675+. Nissan will not acknowledge this as a problem, yet much internet research tells me that this occurs on most Xterras. This Xterra is the primary vehicle for my wife and two children under the age of 3, and twice now they have run out of gas because of this.
I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra. Earlier this week I fueled up the vehicle and continued home. I realized that my fuel gauge was reading only 3/4 of a tank. So, I went back up to the gas station and tried to finish filling the tank (on . 57 cents). Every day since then, once I start the car the fuel gauge reads bad. This past Monday the service engine soon light had come on. I then went out and purchased an obd ii scanner to read the error code. It was p0463 (fuel level sensor a circuit high input). Did some research on the subject and found that it means that I have a faulty fuel sending unit. It seems to be a very common problem for 2005-2007 Nissan Xterra. This is a safety issues. If my wife is driving my daughter back to nyc and the car runs out of fuel and they are stranded in the middle of the new jersey turnpike with people driving past them in excess of 70-80 mph. . . . That is far from safe.
Fuel gauge not working correctly everytime tank is refilled. Check engine light illuminates. See ntb07-069a.
