After filling the gas tank to full, the check engine light has come on and the gas gauge shows empty with the "no fuel" light illuminated. This is that same issues that Nissan was having with campaign id 10v075000.
After filling my godmother's 2006 Nissan Xterra gas tank from 1/4 to full, I notice while driving on the highway that the gas needle never moved from the 1/4 mark. But by the time I got to my destination which was approx. 20-25 miles away, I noticed the gas needle just reached 1/2 mark and "service engine soon" illuminated. Per my code reader, I pulled a code for the fuel level sensor. My godmother took the truck to a repair shop wherein the mechanic charged her to erased the code without troubleshooting, & insisted that she drive until code returned. In the meantime, I found a recall campaign bulletin ref. Ntb 10-031. It is a voluntary recall campaign for 2006 & 2008 Xterra (n50), which to my knowledge this is. I called Nissan north America (case #31357696/ agent 7319344) & gave the VIN #. The agent stated there was no open or current recall(s)/bulletin(s) associated with this VIN number. I informed her that I was physically looking at a recall, so she advise first that I have Nissan run a diagnostic with their scanner & start from there. I also let her know that a diagnostic could be a costly non-beneficial investment especially if Nissan's repair estimate is to high. I called Nissan passport in marlowe heights, maryland and spoke to a service adviser who later told me that once code is active a diagnostic could be perform for approx. $130. Then I asked, if there was a recall/bulletin which included our symptoms but apparently not our VIN number could it somehow be covered. He replied "no. " so I then asked if he would like to get information from me about other Nissan products such as this VIN # that was possible faulty, again he said "no. " so I then called NHTSA , & the agent ultimately gave me the phone number to the federal trade commission. With the federal trade commission I filed a report/claim (9549774) about my treatment with Nissan.
Fuel gauge stopped working. At first, it would go to empty after filling the tank, and driving for a while, start working normal. But now it has stopped working completely.
After filling up gas tank, (I put in 14+ gallons of gas )the fuel gauge remained @ 1/4 tank and the check engine light went on after driving for 24 hours, the gas gauge begins to go to full but the check engine light remains on--this happened on 2 occasions and since the gauge seemed to be working , the mechanic reset the check engine light (it came up with fuel gauge error code), this happened last week and again yesterday I checked the data base for my VIN # and there is no recalls, but I see there are other NHTSA recalls for this issue with other Nissan Xterra's will the dealer replace this free of charge ? (fuel level sending unit ?).
I purchased this vehicle used and found out that the fuel gauge does not work. Even after completely filling the fuel tank up the gauge shows "e", empty. It will, on occasion, show 1/4 tank when the fuel level is low. Due to this my vehicle has run out of gas on several occasions while driving at various speeds in various locations and often I have my child in the car with me. I have had to be pushed out of traffic on busy streets due to the vehicle being out of gas and me not being able to know I am running low on gas. It is very scary and quite dangerous. I have spoken with Nissan on several occasions, as there are recalls on this year vehicle for this same exact issue, but they state to me that my vehicle does not fall into the recall. I am told that the recall is for the same year vehicle but not all models. I can not afford to pay to have the vehicle fixed and am stuck with the issue. I am very unhappy with both the seller of the vehicle and the Nissan corporation.
Fuel gauge stopped working correctly. Does not show full after filling tank.
Gas gauge is behaving erratically. It will show full after filling up, then drop as expected from driving. When the gauge reaches approx. The half tank stickmark, it will freeze there for several miles, then drop to e and the empty warning light comes on, though I would estimate the tank to be about half full. I stop to fill up again but can only get 7 or so gallons in.
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600.

It's unsafe for someone to be stranded in the middle of nowhere because they run out of gas because of a defective part. It's unsafe to run out of gas executing a maneuver at an intersection. Please help us.
