36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2015

Car began to go into neutral while on highway 500 miles from home. Scared my family to death. Lost power at a high speed. Problem ebbed but continued all the way home. Nissan stated radiator fluid had gotten into transmission due to defect in transmission line that was passing through the radiator. Same Nissan' dealer's cheapest solution was to put a used transmission in for $3,500 plus labor. I contracted with a private mechanic. I also purchased a separate system to route the transmission fluid correctly in the future. Mechanic showed me the clutches which were destroyed. He may still have them.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2015

While driving, without warning the vehicle cut off, losing all power including braking power, nearly causing an accident. After multiple shops inspected the vehicle it was discovered that coolant had entered the transmission through a well known failure. This failure causing coolant to enter the transmission destroyed the transmission. This failure is also documented through a class actions lawsuit as well as hundreds of similar claims found online.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Takata recall - I had went church and after I got out. I got back in the vehicle and when I tried to back up in reverse it wouldnt go, but if I pressed the gas a lil harder it went in reverse. So I got out of the vehicle and had mechanic that I go to church with look at it and he drove it around the parking lot. Then checked the fluid thats when he realised that the fluid color had changed and told me that I had transmission problems.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2015

Radiator coolant leaked into transmission and now I need a new transmission and do not have the money for this repair. There needs to be a class action lawsuit as this is happening to Nissan owners after the warranty has expired and Nissan knows about this. I was driving down the main street and vehicle service light came on and then I could only go about 10-15 mph because of the transmission.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2015

Left my house garage and suddenly I notices that the car was loosing the power, so I went back to the house after few miles driving. And next morning, I was going to take my car to the mechanic, the engine didn't start. So I called aaa to tow my car to the mechanic. According to the mechanic, car wouldn't be function due to the transmissmission and computer failure. My car is still in the shop, so I dont know the exact odometer.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

In 2015 my fianc truck broke down leaving her stranded. She had the truck towed to the local Nissan company where she purchased the SUV new. They did a diagnostic check and it showed where the radiator leaked into the transmission causing it to malfunction. She was told that the repairs would be more than $6,000. We were told to contact Nissan corperate. Nissan rep stated there wasn't anything they could dodo to the mileage on the vehicle. There's no way you can predict how long a transmission would last. We've reached out to Nissan on several occasions and were told that based on the age of the vehicle they won't pay for any repairs. My fianc travels due to her job so of course it would have high mileage. Nissazn extended there warranty from 30k to 80k then 100k, again there no way you can predict a failure. Nissan needs to stand behind these faulty radiators and fix these vehicles. I am a Nissan owner ive had 4 Nissans this leaves a bad look on Nissan. I myself will not nor will I refer anyone else to buy or lease another Nissan product. I'm in nc and I've refferd at least 60 of ,my friends and colleges to purchase Nissan. All the staff at deacon jones know me and know my reputation. I was told by a rep at cooperate to speak with the management to see if they would discount my repair. Management stated, they could only cover it if coorperate agreed to fix it. Please look into this case, its been ongoing. We've reached out to coorperate several times and each time we get the run around telling us that the vehicle is over 10 years old now. We've also asked to speak to management and continue to be told there busy or someone will contact us. Again no return calls. We have received emails surveys.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Water from the radiator got into the transmission and I had Nissan replace transmission and radiator at the cost of 4700. 00 dollars when they should have had a recall bad business.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2015

Exiting parking lot, vehicle experienced sudden, "accute" out of control - acceleration. Immediately depressed brake pedal, yet Xterra continued forward some 40 - 50 feet unimpeded, in a severe bucking fashion. Fortunately no person, nor object was in my path. Contacted Nissan north America, was directed to take SUV to local dealer (vallejo Nissan) for inspection. Computer analysis displayed no mechanical issues. There are without a doubt, critical flaws, just waiting to be unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Nissan has staunchly refused any further evaluation. Your assistance would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 127,000.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2015

Transmission control unit fried by defected radiator failure. I am now one of the many 2007 Xterra owners taken by the Nissan motor corporation who put out a defective product and now refuse to stand behind it. Me and the wife were stopping to get a bite to eat, ended up being a final stop. After picking up the food the truck would not crank, gauges worked, horn and lights but still would not crank. Had it towed to the house and then contacted the dealership. Then it gets worst, the dealership "technician" replied with the exact same description of problem over the phone that I gave to him when I called to have it towed to the dealer. The symptoms are no crank, milky looking radiator fluid and the automatic transmission fuses keeps blowing. Now I contacted the Nissan motor corporation and got no "joy" when I found out that the were offering a big fat nothing!!!!!! I guess this is what you get for buying a Nissan :(.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

I was driving my Xterra on the freeway at 5:30 am and suddenly my car quit accelerating, it was as if it went into neutral. I had to immediately pull over onto the side of the highway so that I wouldn't get hit from behind. I turned the engine off and back on and the car got me to my destination. I have since found out that this dangerous issue is common in Xterra's and I am very disappointed that Nissan has not made this issue known to owners. It may well cause a bad accident. Additionally, it is a very costly repair for which Nissan takes little to no responsibility though the defect is theirs.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

According to garage, same complaint with other second generation Nissan Xterra owners. Radiator fluid mixed with transmission fluid and caused catastrophic failure. Driving downtown in heavy traffic with my 8 month old daughter and her mother in the car and losing power completely at an intersection due to a known problem was unnerving to say the least.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed that the transmission needed to be repaired but the specifics were not available. The contact referenced NHTSA action number: dp12004 (power train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

Transmission over heats due to radiator hose corrosion.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

2007 Nissan Xterra. Consumer was told to pay a $2500 copay because his vehicle was over 80,000 miles. Consumer doesn't comply because he inquired about vehicle problems before the 80,000 mile mark. The consumer stated while his was driving, she noticed the vehicle began smoking and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a diagnostic test revealer the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced due to coolant and oil mixing.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2014

I bought my 07 Xterra 6 months ago from transitowne amherst and the dealership told me nothing was wrong with the vehicle. Now 6 months down the road the transmission has gone terminal due to the known problem where coolant leaks into the transmission and causes it to fail. I believe any dealership should have checked to make sure that a vehicle they were selling would not have this issue before they sell it.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

This is one of the many transmission issues with 2007 Xterras where the coolant leaks into the transmission and destroys it. The repair cost is 8500 dollars if the 100000 mile extended warranty has been passed. I contacted Nissan and they told me that this is my responsibility despite the hundred of complaints regarding the exact same issue. When driving at any speed, when the Xterra changes gears there is a rough vibration that keeps getting worse the longer it goes for. Had I not learned about this on my own accord this could have resulted in a very bad accident.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Car will not upshift sometimes seems electrical.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

My transmission is ruined because both the radiator antifreeze and the transmission fluid have mixed. My wife could have had a serious accident.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

There is a known service problem and bulliten on defective timing chain guides that cause a chain to skip, break lose , or break causing the vehicle to go into a high speed stall. My is just grinding, will repair, but Nissan is well aware of this problem and won't participate in a solution.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2014

I was driving on the highway in my 2007 Nissan Xterra with my family (myself, my wife, and 2 children). We experienced a complete breakdown while travelling 60 miles per hour. The truck started to make all kinds of noises, the steering wheel started shaking uncontrollably, and I completely lost all acceleration. Fortunately for myself and my family, I was able to steer the car out of any immediate danger and bring the car to a stop on the shoulder because of my quick reactions. My family and I were stranded on the highway with no means of transportation. This was a very traumatic experience for all of us. I was able to call another family member to come and pick up my family, but I had to stay with the truck until I was able to have it towed to my house. After doing a little research, I learned of this faulty Nissan design problem and was advised to contact the NHTSA because they have an open investigation into this type of occurrence. I am pleading with you to seriously look into this problem before anyone has to lose their life or face a permanent disability resulting from this type of occurrence. I hope that the NHTSA can complete this investigation soon. I would strongly recommend a recall for this safety hazard and potential life threatening occurrence that is a direct result of Nissan's faulty design, which they are completely aware of, but deny taking any responsibility!.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

Radiator cracked causing coolant to mix with transmission fluid.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Internal leakage of engine coolant in to transmission.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

My cars coolant gage jumped straight to h out of nowhere. After pulling into a shell station for antifreeze, it was apparent what had happened. There was something mixed in with the antifreeze. It was the transmission fluid. After being told I would need a new transmission and radiator, I started researching and im not the only one dealing with an otherwise great body you can't do anything with and doubt I will be the last. After further research it appears that no recall has been approved and I believe there are many of us wondering why? this is a consistent problem with hundreds of cars and it's not even one make, it's many. 3 in my category. Does a recall only happen when it has fatality attached? this is a faulty system and Nissan approved these coolants in the transmissions and continued to even after complaints of the system. I was lucky to catch mine right away but still need $3000 to fix it! it won't be long until fatality is attached once someone's transmission goes out on a highway or in 5 o'clock traffic! Nissan needs to issue a recall!!!.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

The radiator leaked and the coolant went int to the transmission and now has totally screwed up the transmission to the point of having to replace it and the radiator. Nissan knows about this problem and will not make a recall on either parts which is completely wrong.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

Radiator leak to transmission.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The contact owns 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated the engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic test performed. The failure was located in the transmission where the radiator fluid was mixed with the transmission fluid. The transmission and the radiator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer advised the vehicle exceeded the 100,000 miles warranty repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 102,000.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

My radiator went out in the starbucks drive-thru. I had it towed to a shop & was told it is a known design flaw by Nissan where the fluids are mixing & the only thing I can do now is replace the radiator & "hope" the fluids did not go into the transmission. Got the new radiator & had a trans flush 3 times & paid about $1800. It is now a month later & my service engine light is on. Today, I am told I need a new transmission which will cost $3800. This is our only car. We do not have the funds to pay for a new transmission. For safety reasons, we urge you to please issue a recall on this poor design by Nissan where the fluids are mixing & causing safety concerns to the consumers.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I took my Nissan Xterra 2007 into boulder Nissan in October 2013. At the time, it had under 100,000 miles. Upon examination of the car for lack of heat, they said they flushed it and eventually I would have to replace the radiator. They did not tell me that there was a class action lawsuit against Nissan for defective parts leaking coolant into the transmission. I returned to Nissan in Jan. 2015 for the same problem and was hit with a bill for $5,200 to replace the radiator, transmission, timing chain and termostat.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

Engine coolant got into transmission. Lost control of vehicle for a moment on several occasions. Felt like I hit black ice. Transmission was not working properly.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

Nissan sent a warranty notification letter that the radiator could crack and leak into the transmission. The letter stated the warranty ran out at 80k miles. They would not replace the radiator and transmission until there was an actual problem. I didn't start having problems until about 96k miles. When I brought it in to the dealer, I was told it would cost me $3000 my part to fix it and they would cover the rest. I have not been able to afford to make the repair at this time. Nissan knew the part was bad and still did nothing to correct the problem.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Auto transmission not working ,seems a lt of complaints and not recall . I called Nissan and was told that they are aware of the problem and the investigation going on ,but will not pay for it since it is 10521 miles over their 100k warranty . I was told to send a complaint but is been 120 days and no respond what will it take for the NHTSA to order a recall ? how many more complaints for them to start doing their job ?.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

I had noticed that the temperature gauge would bounce up and down and when I went to check the antifreeze it was full of purple goop. I was told the coolant and transmission have been compromised. I took very good care of this care with oil change, all fluid changes as well. I can't not afford to have this problem fixed. The SUV has been parked since then and that was over 3 years ago. I was hoping to have a resolution of this with a recall.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Own 2007 Nissan Xterra maintain care with all proper services since purchased new. Suddenly driving and check engine light comes on park car and wait for morning to take to dealership, try to start next morning wont start. Have car towed to cerritos Nissan and have them inspect it,they call me back a few hours later telling me that my radiator hose have leaked coolant into my transmission and destroyed my tranny. I asked why this could have happened and they explained that this is a manufacture defect from Nissan and explained to me since I was over 100k miles that it is not covered. Price for new transmission and radiator 5000 dollars. Ridicolous for me to pay for a defect from Nissan that is going to eventually happen to any owner of Xterra, pathfinder and frontier owners from 05 to 11. I do not think us as loyal Nissan owners should have to pay for a defect from Nissan that is bound to happen Nissan should have atotal recall on all those models affected by the shotty radiator that they manufactured. I have purchased 4 Nissans through the past 12 yrs and I will never purchase another Nissan after this incident. I had to pay 5000 to fix a defect from Nissan.
