Check engine light came on, took my truck to the dealer to have a diagnostic check, was told by the service staff that the transmission was contaminated with coolant that had leaked from the radiator. Upon further research, I discovered that other Nissan makes, models between 2004-2006 had a design flaw which caused the problem in which I now face. . I contacted Nissan for some financial assistance on the repair on my transmission, since it appears that the issues related to my problem are from a flaw in the designs of the vehicle. I was told that because my mileage was over a 100,000 miles and past the warranty, that there wasn't anything that could be done as far assisting me with the repairs. I will never buy another Nissan product again. . . . It should be also noted that there was a class action lawsuit again Nissan regarding the very problem that I'm faced dealing with. . .

Takata recall ive had problems with tranmisson for a about 3 yrs . . I called Nissan recall and they have always told me its not in the USA. Went to trans shop and they have had it for 4 weeks not unable to fix it. . . It would start when I would stop at lights or stop signs and not go would have to shut off and restart then pull over for not getting hit. .
I was traveling at 25 (no more than 30) mph when another vehicle collided with mine. The other vehicle did clip the middle 1/3 and entire passenger side of my Xterra. The hood was crushed to the first third of the front passenger wheel well, transmission and radiator fluids were leaking from the SUV, grill was obliterated, front passenger headlight was crushed into the battery (that leaks due to the accident), and the front bumper was impinging the front passenger wheel from freely moving. The airbags should have deployed, but did not. The vehicle is not drivable and had to be towed. I am filing this complaint because I believe that the severity of impact should have resulted in airbag deployment.
I was approaching the 'on' ramp when Xterra pulled to side then flipped over 3x. There are 4 recalls;3 may have contributed to rollover.

The airbag lite began flashing on the dashboard. Took vehicle to the dealership and the only fix action was to begin replacing parts that Nissan recommended until it was fixed. No exact fix was given only the following: visually check wiring harness for connection and damage. All ok. Next step in procedure is to replace driver's airbag module. Subsequent procedures are to replace spiral cable, then diagnostic unit, and related harness. These are all costly steps and the parts being replaced may not be bad. The dealership couldn't determine exactly which portion was failing. In conclusion: the fix action was being replacing parts (extremely costly) until the problem is fixed. Computer code: b1054 (driver airbag module open).

I was driving along a slightly snow covered road with a little bit of ice. My speed was low about 15-20 miles per hour. The car stared sliding sideways toward another car heading toward me. My four-wheeled drive was engaged while driving. I managed to steer the car out of the way of the other car but I could not gain control of my vehicle. The brakes did not help and the steering would not respond. I traveled at least 80 feet hitting trees and bushes until a set of trees stopped my car. The crash totaled my car.

Tl - the contact owns a 2005 Nissan x terra. The driver noticed the air bag censor illuminated. Unknown if the air bag censor illuminated while the vehicle was being drove or parked. The manufacturer was contacted who stated the vehicle was out of warranty due to the mileage and the VIN was not included under NHTSA campaign id number: 08v690000 (air bags:frontal). Defective. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the front passenger air bag was effective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 82,000. Dr.

While driving on a dirt road in my 2011 Nissan Xterra pro 4x my side curtain airbags deployed and both front seat belts locked as if in an accident. I have driven that same part at least one dozen times before without issue. I have also taken the vehicle in areas that are very rocky without issue. The vehicle has hit bottom on occasion and has dents and scratches to the effect. When the dealer inspected the vehicle, they stated that the vehicle believed that it would roll over without correction in driving and that was the reason for the deployment. There was no impact that took place on the incident day yet they are telling me that it is a factor in the airbags deploying.

I believe that my airbag deployed on it's own for no apparent reason resulting in knocking me unconscious thereby causing an accident.
I own a Nissan Xterra 2004 it was in park and rolled by itself from flat to down a drive hitting a moving car then going down a cliff into a tree. No one at Nissan or allstate can explain why it rolled! Nissan blew me off saying it can happen what concerns me is that if it could just roll like that why did the air bags deploy? there explanation well--- it was in park! so how can if it is in park no keys can it roll forward then down????.

I'm filing a complaint before I have an incident. I own a Nissan Xterra. Many other Nissan Xterra owners have had spontaneous side curtain air bag deployment when traveling very slowly, generally on dirt roads. Some of these deployments have caused injuries. The problem appears to be common on all 2nd generation Nissan Xterras (2006-2016). The following links are to Xterra forum threads and professional publications about random airbag deployment in Xterras. There are many more documented cases of this online, the links below are a taste. This also may be a problem with Nissan frontiers, which are basically the truck variant of the Xterra. . Read more...

I owned a Nissan Xterra(02)4wd-I drove it to the lassen nat'l volcanic park in red bluff,CA,I was about 300 ft from highway 36 going to the park. It was kind of chilly and the road have some snow on it. I was going slow about 13 to 15 miles, because I'm not familiar with the road, I was thinking I'll put on four wheel drive, but I have to stop the car and transfer it to 4wd-when I started sliding towards the mountainside,so stepped on the brakes(abs) but I kept on sliding, I did not steer it to the opposite direction,I just went where the was going which is to the right, the vehicle did not stop. It hit the the mountain side trees and snow then it rolled over. My son and me were shaken and I smelled the gas so I turn the engine, it still running. We got out of the car and I can't believe that we survived the crash- we were wearing our seat belts, we got some bruise an d bumps in our head, but a week later I still feel aches and pains-my complaints are that why did our abs did not work and the airbas did not deploy? lucky enough that we were not on the side of the of the deep canyon when it happened. I always maintained that car.

Problems with control unit on 2002 Nissan Xterra. The srs light would come on, the first dealer replaced the control panel but the second service dealer suggested that the part was not replaced. The consumer found that the problem was due to a faulty connector.
