The car suddenly stalled without any warning. Total loss of ability regarding steering and braking was encountered. The ignition key lock switch functions become unresponsive following the stalling engine. Meaning that when the key was turned the engine would turn over but, the engine would not remain on.
Driving on freeway at 65mph car started stalling and loosing speed, I stepped on the gas but car would not accelerate. I was a few yards from exit, so I exited and when I reached the bottom of the exit, car stopped and it accelerated in reverse. Very scary and strange. I pulled the emergency brake and turned the engine off even though it seemed to not be running. I towed the car to a mechanic and I found out that the problem was a design flaw in the car that Nissan has acknowledged but did not recall the vehicles. I find myself with a $6,000 repair estimate. I called the dealer after finding out what caused my car to die and they were aware of the problem as well and informed me that Nissan had extended the warranty on the car with a $3,000 CO-pay. The problem is not only expensive to repair but a real danger if the car goes into reverse while on heavy, fast traffic. I'm completely aghast that Nissan and the dealers have known about this problem but have not notified car owners nor will they own up to the design defect and repair the vehicles which should not be needing new transmissions with less than 100,000 of driving. I don't know what you do with these complaints, but Nissan needs to do the right thing and repair the vehicles free of charge. The class action lawsuit that they settled is a sham. When we buy cars we expect them to run well, and not have major flaws that would render the cars useless if you don't have the huge amounts of money that it takes to repair them. What does the law allow Nissan to do in this case. They've already ripped us off by selling us faulty vehicles and now they want to rip us off by having us pay for repairs that should not have been incurred to begin with.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was not giving a proper reading level and that the vehicle stalled from low fuel more than once. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10v517000 (engine and engine cooling) and was waiting for the part to become available and schedule the recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
There was recall for vehicles similar in year as my car. The recall was # 10v517000 and was for the "intelligent power distribution module (ipdm)". I called Nissan America, and although many vehicles of my year and make/model were affected, my VIN # was not included. I should have ben included on this recall because this is exactly what part was defective and exactly what I had to pay for to get fixed. I was even driving when it stalled out on me numerous times and I am thankful it was not on the freeway. If possible I would like to be acknowledged and potentially be reimbursed by Nissan.
After the car warms up it will stall while driving and when coming to a stop to idle. Sometimes it will not start immediately after stalling. This is a safety hazard and could cause an accident. We have also had multiple problems with the alignment due to the wheel bearings.

The vehicle stalled while idling. While idling car begins to vibrate, rpm drop down and ultimately car stalls. Leading up to this incident, when accelerating from a stop, when pressing on gas pedal, car does not engage and appears to die out; fortunately it catches and continues on. Thought it was isolated incident, however, this led to the idling problem. Took vehicle to mechanic, and he could not identify problem as no engine codes registered, and no obvious malfunction was present. This is a very dangerous situation, as car could stall out while moving. This needs to be addressed immediately before a stall occurs on the highway and someone gets hurt. A review of Nissan websites has reflected a persistent problem with this specific vehicle. The prevalence of this problem would logically lead to the conclusion that this is a design problem that should be investigated by Nissan and corrected; again before someone gets seriously hurt.

I have a 2006 Xterra that stall out for no reason. It happens while driving at high or low speeds, or at stop lights. It doesn't happen every day and it may even go weeks without happening. Or it happens many times in one day or not at all other days. Very strange. Took it to dealer, they can't find the issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact was driving approximately 35-40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and it was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The dealer made repairs to the vehicle however, the contact stated that the vehicle was in worse condition after repairs. The steering wheel was extremely loose, the fuel level gauge was not operating, the tire pressure warning gauge indicator remained illuminated and occasionally, the vehicle would fail to start. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not repaired. The contact stated that there were several recalls repairs made to the vehicle but he was not sure which recall repairs were performed. The failure persisted and the vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 29,000 and the current mileage was 63,700.
- the contact owns a 2002 Nissan Xterra. While driving at 35 mph the vehicle began to vibrate. The contact pulled into a gas station, purchased oil and put it into the vehicle, and then the vehicle would not start. The contact had triple aaa tow the vehicle to a Nissan dealership. The problem was diagnosed as diesel fuel mixed with gas. The contact was told that the vehicle needed the fuel tank and the fuel system to be flushed, and the oil changed, spark plugs replaced, and the fuel filter replaced. The dealer had the contacts vehicle for approximately three weeks and performed an oil change, flushed the fuel tank, and fuel system. The contact picked up the vehicle ,went directly across the street and purchased high octane gas. The vehicle ran long enough for him to go across the street, got the gas and then the vehicle stalled. The contact did not believe that the vehicle was working as it did before the repairs were performed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer , where another diagnostic had to be done, and the dealer told the contact that the engine needed to be rebuilt. The contact believed that the first diagnostic should have revealed that the engine had a problem, and that nothing on the dashboard ever indicated that the oil was low. The vehicle was purchased in August, and the problems began at the end of January. The contact felt that if the vehicle did not have oil it was purchased that way. The current and failure mileage were 50,000. The dealer states tag light not working and cd player not working. The consumer provided information from carfax and a repair invoice. Updated 06/08/07.
While driving, the vehicle stalled the driver tried to restart the vehicle but was unable to restart it. The consumer was able restart fifteen minutes later and drove to the dealer. The mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem. Please provide additional information.
