3 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

Last year while driving my car I begin to notice a "jerking" motion. I took it back to the Nissan dealer and they said that I would need a flush and that this would take care of the problem. Fast forward roughly a month later and my car completely gave out while driving to work. No warning just stopped driving in the middle of the road. I had the car towed back to the dealer where they did a diagnostic and said that the transmission was "gone" because the coolant was leaking into the transmission. I simply can not afford to get the repairs done being a single mother. I have called Nissan and filed a complaint and was told that because my car was slightly over 100,00 miles they couldn't do anything for me. I feel as though this is s defect in the equipment that Nissan is seeking and the mileage should not matter. There should be some sort of resolution on the matter. As it stands my car has been immobile for the past couple months and I am still making payments. It's a sad situation and Nissan should be ashamed, something has to be done.

5 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/27/2014

Engine coolant is leaking into transmission. I am experiencing the same exact situation as the current investigation that is happening over the last two years.

6 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

I noticed a vibration, like you were driving on the rumble strip on the side of the road between 40 and 50 mph, at around 2000 rpm and the transmission would not switch into overdrive. I took it into the dealership and the service tech diagnosed the problem, cooler system failure, in about 5 minutes after taking one look at the transmission fluid and coolant. The cooler had failed leaking coolant into the transmission fluid and vice versa. They replaced the transmission and cooler assembly. I had just under 97,000 miles on the vehicle and had to pay $3300 for the repairs. I am very disappointed in Nissan and how they have handled what is clearly a prevalent and known issue with cooler failures in certain models. A $3000 deductible (plus tax) that expires at 100,000 miles for an issue that's known to occur at close to 100,000 miles is not much of a consolation.

7 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

Nissan will not step up and fix their mistake, our car is at 87000 miles and the coolant is leaking into the transmission due to how Nissan configured their system from the years of 2006 - 2009. When I spoke with william at Nissan consumer affairs he intimated that Nissan is not aware of this being a major issue, but interestingly enough stopped using this configuration in 2010. They claim that it will not happen to every Nissan, we need more consumers to come forward, so that this will become a "recall". The system is faulty it may not happen at 80,000 / 90,000 / 100,000 , but count on it happening at some point. This is a very expensive repair. If Nissan had communicated to us that the warranty covering this transmission failure was extended to 80,000 but of course why would they admit to a faulty system, and let their valued customers know. Simple they do not value their customers, they lost this group. Way to go Nissan, somewhere down the line this will hurt you. Signed-disgusted.

8 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

Our 2007 Nissan Xterra, purchased brand new, began to overheat. Upon checking the fluids I noticed the coolant level was dangerously low. I was certainly puzzled where the fluid had gone because there has never been any visible leaks or any warning lights or any other symptom to draw my attention. I began to look into the situation because I was puzzled and quickly learned of the massive number of Nissan owners experiencing the same problem. Sadly, I was now one of those victims. Yes, the coolant had contaminated the transmission fluid via the faulty transmission cooler. There is a class action lawsuit that I am sure you are aware of but I was unaware of. I do not recall any contact notifying me of a class action lawsuit and the potential damage. I had no reason for worry because my vehicle had not given me any trouble signs and the fluids have always checked normal during normal service checks. Like many, I cannot afford to shell out the dollars that this negligence on Nissan corporation behalf has caused. I encourage you to please force Nissan corporation to issue a recall requiring them to make all the appropriate repairs for these damages. Please, do not put a cap on the mileage or set the mileage relatively high if you must. My vehicle has only 89,000 miles and only gave signs of damage less than 500 miles ago.

9 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

When driving at various speeds I began to notice the engine bogging down when changing gears. Upon taking it to my mechanic I was told that there was a leak between the transmission and engine coolant systems. The fix would require a replacement of both systems totally approx. $6000! apparently this is a "known issue" with 2005-2010 Xterras. Upon contacting Nissan I was told that since my vehicle was over 100,000 miles that there was nothing that they could do for me. If this is a known issue, and a rather major one at that, I'm not sure why there hasn't been any recalls or some kind of fix.

12 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

13 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

Driving on freeway and transmission began to slip and within a matter of seconds had absolutely no power to wheels. Have researched and found issues with this vehicle regarding coolant line for transmission failing and leaking anti-freeze into transmission. Was wondering why it is that there is not a recall by Nissan for this issue as it is undetectable, unpreventable, and expensive.

14 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

On Feb. 8th my wife and I were moving into a new place just miles away from our old home. When cruising in between 40-50 mph the vehicle was experiencing extreme vibration in the rear end of the vehicle. It was then that I assumed it might be a universal joint and/or the drive shaft. So when I had the money I brought the vehicle to aamco transmissions to have it checked out. I had to drop it off but later that afternoon the mechanic called me and told me it was the drive shaft and the frontal u-joint. He replaced the u-joint and re-balanced the drive shaft. I thought the problem was solved but just a few miles down the road I realized it hadn't. So I brought it back and they took a second look and told me it may be two things. Either the torque converter is bad or the coolant hose busted and the antifreeze was draining into the transmission which would cause the transmission to blow out. They then told me to fix the transmission would cost me around $6,000 which to me is worth more than the actual vehicle. When I got home I did a little research and found that sure enough the antifreeze was leaking into the transmission. The antifreeze looks like a green apple milkshake if you can imagine. I don't know what to do because I know that there are no recalls for this issue nor warranty coverage. Hundreds of people have complained about this exact issue. I'm at a loss, and now there's absolutely nothing I can do with my only transportation.

Premature failure of head gasket on 2002 Nissan Xterra 4wd. Car is leaking antifreeze coolant and only 3 yrs old. Nissan dealer wants somewhere around $3000 to repair. Nissan USA manufacturer of vehicle has told me that they cannot assist me. Car now has only 70,000 miles but the problem existed way before. Dealer told me that they smelled anti-freeze leak when I brought the car in for a 30,000 mile maintenance but they never put it in writing and never mentioned it again.
