My 2007 Xterra with 62k miles began making a whining noise when accelerating . Not sure what it was I took it to the Nissan dealer where I get all my major services done . The technician took a look at the problem and within min notify me it is the timing belt chain and guides , known issue for my Nissan Xterra . When I ask him if he is sure he confirm he does few of this every month and that the problem is so known that Nissan has a service bulletin, with the title describing the issue and the symptom ! he has confirm the issue is with the plastic guide that is part of the design . Looking online I find many Nissan owners are experiencing the same problem . I am extremely disappointed with the Nissan brand and not sure what to do , if I replace the part , will it happen again as it is a design issue ? when buying the car, one of the selling point was that the car does not have a timing belt anymore but a chain! that will most likely engine itself . Calling Nissan customer service did not help and I am left with a $2000 repair due to a known issue and bad design.

My car 2007 Nissan Xterra started to make a revving noise under the hood on Sunday 10/2/2011. The next day I was on the highway on my way home from work when the check engine light came on. I cautiously drove the min speed limit to the mid-city Nissan dealership which was less than 2 miles away at this point. The next day, mid-city Nissan informed me that I needed the timing chain repaired ASAP. This sight isn't the better business bureau so I'll save you the extraneous lies Nissan tried to sell me so they didn't have to fix my car which was under 46000 miles and still under extended Nissan factory warranty. Not wanting to spend $2000 on a car that I am still paying for and is still considerably new at 46000 miles. So I called my trusted neighborhood mechanic to look at it. He concluded that the guards on the secondary belt are worn away and it need to be replaced. Looking into "timing chains on Nissan trucks" becomes quite a fruitful search when browsing the internet. Right now there is a service bulletin for defective engines in trucks like mine. This is the first truck I've owned and I believed that the high pitched whining sound coming out of the engine was normal for such a big, powerful car. I'm afraid that the engine has sounded like this for the last few thousand miles. I feel if it's such a widespread problem among Nissan truck owners, it could one day result in someones engine stalling on the highway. Thank goodness it wasn't me. Nissan needs to address this problem and there should be a recall on these engine parts.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated there was a loud noise heard from the front of the vehicle intermittently. The authorized dealer was unable to replicate or diagnose the failure on several occasions. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the timing belt was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact was also advised that there was a leak in the engine. Additionally, when the hood was opened the cap to the transmission overflow was missing and was replaced by the dealer. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000. The current mileage was 65,000.

Nissan uses faulty equipment in their vehicles and ashly at their consumer affairs dept actually told me that Nissan only expects their vehicles to last the 3 yrs or 36k miles!! since I purchased this vehicle I have had the a/c compressor replaces, all heater hosses replaced, oil leaks, coolant leaks, drive belts replaced and the alternator replaced. My car literally broke down in my driveway. I was returning from vacation with my son, my dog and my cat-if my trip would have 15 mins. Longer I would have broke down on the side of the road. Nissan does not stand behind their products at all and does not care about the consumer or their safety!!.

Engine tapping noise in engine on cold start as well as chirping noise. We noticed a tapping noise in the engine on our 2006 Xterra. It has 14,000 plus miles. The noise has now become more pronounced everyday. In the morning when we start the vehicle we've heard the noise since March 30, 2007. I have documented the vehicle's problem on video, and even showed it to the service manager. Also, I have gone to Nissanhelp. Com and found some solution and symptoms to my problem. However, even with video and documentation proof the service manager and dealership have ignored to fix the vehicle. The service manager wants to hear it live for himself before doing anything. This morning the second in command service manager told me that I was not welcomed to the dealership anymore. I told him I bought the vehicle here, it's under warranty, there is no way I'm going to drive out of my way to get another dealership to fix the problem. The problem still exists. I called another dealership in town and sure enough there seems to be many issues with the chirping of belt or tension item related. The tapping noise I believe is as noted on Nissanhelp. Com.
2001 Nissan Xterra currently has 77, 123 miles. Experiencing power window failure and crankshaft pulley failure. 1. Aug 06 window failed to completely close, had to adjust with hand to close. I thought window was off track so I had dealer service window, dealer applied lubrication. Window is still failing to completely close without assistance. 2. Heard noise in engine compartment took vehicle to dealer for service, dealer replaced power steering tensioner pulley noise continued to exist. I had a reputable mechanic look at vehicle and noticed that the crankshaft pulley had multiple stress fractures and dents. Vehicle scheduled to be serviced again to replace crankshaft pulley.

Please read letter to Nissan it explains everything. as the original owners of a 2006 Nissan Xterra 4wd with 89,000 miles, we are writing you to ask for assistance in resolving an issue we have been dealing with for quite some time. Please know we are also a current owner of a Nissan titan and are loyal to the Nissan brand. in 2011 the original transmission with roughly 50,000 miles failed due to a faulty design associated with a cooler assembly. This transmission was replaced at no cost to us by liberty Nissan located in hanover, pennsylvania. after said transmission was replaced, we started to notice a constant whining that we thought was somehow attributed to the new transmission. We returned to liberty Nissan to have them investigate the source of the noise and it was their determination that the noise was due to wore out timing belt sprockets. We explained to the dealership that this anomaly had not existed prior to the installation of the new transmission as it was and remains quite noticeable. However, this explanation seemed to fall upon deaf ears. Subsequently liberty Nissan informed us that if we would like to address this issue the costs would be roughly $1,200. 00 dollars. This was something that we could not afford at the time and furthermore felt this was not something that would occur under normal wear and tear for a vehicle with only 50,000 miles. To this day we remain skeptical of this diagnosis. We are now left with a vehicle that lost its appeal due to this constant, aggressive whining instead of one that in the past drew positive attention from onlookers and passersby's for its appearance. we hope Nissan stands behind its product and repairs issue that occur prematurely at no cost. We thank you in advance for your time and consideration on this matter and look forward to your response. .
3 months after purchasing vehicle I noticed that the car would squeal for 5-10 minutes when 1st starting, it did not matter if it was in the morning or mid-afternoon. I took the truck into the dealer and the drive belt was replaced. About 2,000 miles later the problem re-occurred, I took the truck back to the dealer and this time the auto tension pulley was replaced. About 1,000 miles later the truck was once again taken back and this time the lead tech assured me the problem would be fixed and the drive belt was replaced for a 2nd time. I have now had this truck for 9 months and again had to take in, this time I dealt with the service manager who was not helpful. They once again replaced the drive belt and stated this was a known Nissan problem and that the problem will present itself again but they can not do anything until Nissan issues a recall or TSB. I called Nissan's 800-nissan1 number and spoke to a customer service rep. I was told that I would receive a call from the regional manager by the end of the next business day since I had taken the truck in 4 times for the exact same problem, I have yet to receive any calls from Nissan's regional rep. I feel that both the Nissan dealer and Nissan are unwilling or unable to satisfactorily fix the re-occurring problem once and for all, and that I am just being given the run around.
From the onset of the purchase I have been hearing a knocking noise in the engine the mechanics at the Nissan repair shops states that nothing is wrong , however the noise gets worst when you drive the car , for longer periods , I have had Nissan service the car but all they do is tighten the fan, the timing tensioner pulley , yet the noise is still there, Nissan north America has been contacted and so has the dealer to this day they cannot find the problem , nor are have they been able to identify the source.
Check engine light went on while driving to truckee, California from sacramento. . I had the radio on and did not hear an engine noise. It was 11:00 clock at night and I was a woman alone driving in a rural area. There was no where to stop until I got to my home town of truckee . When I started the car in the morning, to go to work I heard a rather distinct noise in the engine. I called my local mechanic and he took the car in immediatley. . He replaced the timing belt and the noise continued. He recommended towing it to the Nissan dealership in reno. Which is what I did. They listened to the motor and said it was the # 5 piston which meant the I needed a new engine at a cost of $6500. 00 , I declined repairs. My Xterra only had 68,000 miles on it, and could not understand why a car with such a good reputation had engine failure with so little mileaage. When I bought by car which was used at 32,000 miles I took it to my mechancic. He said that thhis car should last me well into the 200,000 plus miles as did my former car a isuzu rodeo (240,000). This is the first time I have ever purchased a used car and felt confident in getting a Nissan product. Unfoutunately this was not the case. Luckily the car made it back to my home town and did not break down in the middle of nowhere in winter. I was making this trip to sacramento twice a week for a class in obtaining my special educaation credential, and I will have t do it for the next several years. I was depending on this car for safety and reliable transportation. Buying a car with 32,000 mioles seemed like a new car to me, considering my old car had 240,000. I take care of my cars, and I am not abusive to them. They last me a long time.
