1 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2015 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Vehicle started showing signs of clutch slipping at 50,000 miles: engine would rev up while clutch pedal was fully out, then you would feel it re-engage completely after a few seconds of whining and spinning. I'm a lifetime clutch driver (nearly 20 years), and every vehicle got in excess of 150,000 miles before needing a new clutch. The second generation Xterra manual transmission clutch is utterly junk. Don't ever buy this vehicle in manual, or any Nissan. After owning 3 Xterras in my time I will never own another Nissan again. This premature fail is a manufacturing/oem defect. Please recall!!!.

2 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

Vehicle slowed down on the freeway, took almost full power to maintain 20 mph speed. Burning smell in cabin accompanied the loss of power. Vehicle towed to original dealer. After a day, he stated it was the manual clutch assembly. Vehicle has 27661 original miles, this is the second manual transmission/clutch failure since I bought the vehicle new in 2007. First failure occurred after only 7954 miles. First time, the dealer said he didn't have to cover repair under warranty ( "wear" parts), but did it anyway because they believed there were no "driver" issues, ie. , part failure, not driver mis-use. As an aside, my wife and I have been driving manual transmission vehicles for 40 years apiece, and never had this problem. This time, two months out of warranty, dealer claimed Nissan would not cover the repair. $2100 later, I drove off the lot with a clutch pedal very much softer than when it was new. I test drove it with the repairing mechanic, he said he had adjusted the pedal play to factory spec, and the clutches should last 60-70000 miles (seems low to me-manual transmissions are usually bullet-proof with other manufactures ). Mechanic replaced flywheel, clutch disc, cover assembly, bearing release and first shaft bushing. Awaiting response to appeal for cost coverage from Nissan. Multiple clutch failures reported on the internet ( edmunds. Com, facebook ) for same year/make. Believe a poor design/parts manufacturer is the cause of these failures, Nissan needs to recall and repair these vehicles.

3 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/04/2004

Vehicle was parked in driveway. There was a slight grade that went to the street. Consumer opened the driver's side door, put left foot on the clutch, turned the key, and vehicle rolled backward. Consumer expected the vehicle to jilt forward and stall when foot was removed from the clutch , but instead, it jilted, then surged forward at 25 mph up the driveway, dragging the consumer. Consumer's hands were still on the steering wheel. The gas pedal was never depressed. Vehicle was in first gear. Vehicle crashed into the house , but the rear wheel continued to turn. Two insurance adjusters came out and inspected the damage. Dealership indicated that after the frontal repairs were performed, then they will inspect vehicle attempting to duplicate the failure to determine what caused the acceleration, and then correct the problem.

4 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/06/2004

Continuing poor clutch operation. Pedal often binds; had to release pedal fully to get cruise control to operate; pedal is nearly to the floor at first start on cold morning. Just spent $1200 to repair clutch. Dealer claims binding clutch is no problem. I have spoken to other 2000 Xterra owners that have had the same problem earlier in their ownership and had the pedal replaced under warranty. . . My thought is the binding clutch is causing other problems. . .
