1 Clutch problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to independently decelerate until reaching 20 mph and would not travel over the speed. There was also a burning odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the clutch was burned out. The dealer replaced the disc assembly, fly wheel and clutch. The failure did not recur. The failure mileage was 27,661 and the current mileage was 27,701.

2 Clutch problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank has fail. The fuel gauge does not accurately show the level of fuel that was left in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they can repair the vehicle at the contact's expense. There was a recall NHTSA# 10v075000; component: fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary but her VIN was not included in the recall. At 32,000 miles the clutch failed on the highway when driving 50 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired at a cost of $1500. The manufacturer also stated her VIN was not included in the recall and they will not cover the repairs of both failures. The failure mileage was 53,000.

3 Clutch problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. While driving 40 mph and shifting gears, the clutch failed. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the clutch was replaced. The failure recurred immediately after the contact drove eighteen miles. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic that previously repaired the vehicle and replaced the clutch again. The contact also stated that the heater and air conditioner fuses became inoperable. When he consulted an authorized dealer, he was informed that the fan blower was defective and needed to be replaced. The fuse failed again and the dealer replaced the blower motor twice. The dealer also suspected that an electrical harness may have caused the failure to occur but the parts would not be available until the end of June 2010. The contact called the manufacturer who confirmed that his warranty had expired; therefore, he would be responsible for the repair expenses. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The current mileage was approximately 67,000.

4 Clutch problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/28/2004

Consumer stated vehicle will not go into first gear. About one month ago when consumer would put vehicle into first gear it made a lot of noise. Then, it would go into gear, but it would slip out again. About a week later, she had to hold it in gear. Currently, the vehicle will not go into first gear. Consumer will be taking this vehicle to the dealer, but felt this vehicle was too new for transmission to malfunction. After the testing the consumer was told that the transmission and the clutch would have to be replaced.
