1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/10/2021

Yes in the 2005 Nissan Xterras there is no floating arm device within the fuel sending unit. Which is what is causing the vehicle to have the fuel gauge on the front dash panel to read incorrectly to the electronic screen. It also doesn't report your dte on the dash panel because the fuel sending unit has been corroded, or was made of plastic, and has been completely damaged. So now when the vehicle sits while started for a long period of time the fuel gauge will go to empty but remain running, or you could fill your vehicle up all the way with gas, and then when you start the Xterra, the vehicle will then show empty still until it was at 3 quarters of the tank, then it will read it at 3 quarters of a tank until half a tank. Unless the vehicle sits to long without moving, then vehicle will show the fuel gauge on the front dash panel to be empty. This is unsafe because it will cause Nissan Xterras to run out of gas on the road which could lead to front, side, rear, and rollover crashes.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/23/2019

A couple of months back I reported this fuel level problem I believe in July, my wife was driving this Xterra 2007 (we have two a 2005 and this 2007) she driving in the center lane on the I-30 interstate when the Xterra just cut out, looking at the dash she said it has fuel about a 1/4 tank , she said she just made it to the shoulder of the safety lane when stopped. I went to her aide to find the check engine lite on and it wouldnt start, I took a two foot piece of two by four and wrapped the tank and it sounded like it was empty and whats funny the gauge inside now reads empty. . Got her gas and I drove it home. I report this to you guys and never heard a word back about this. In fact the complaint doesy show up in your listing explain that! I'im a mechanical engineer and done my fair share of failure analysis in my career and whats going on with this Xterra is a heat related condition. 1. The pump is spring loaded to be able to keep contact with the tank to pickup fuel. 2. The tank being made of poly material plastic expands causing the the pump to jack screw in he direction of the spring which rotates the sending unit pick arm to lodge it self against the the tank embossment and not allowing the arm to come to rest at the bottom of the tank. I found out this confirm the problem with a recall notice for 2006 and 2008 bnut why not the 2007 its same dam confguration ,same parts ,same tank, ,07,08 part number17202-9bm2a, sender 25060-zz00a, pump is the same 17040-zs00a, so why wasnt the 2007 included in the recall a typing error :summary 10v75500 reads":Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 " should have read models 2006,2007 and model year 2008. How could you guys miss this? dont you ever do a check on "where used" with xxxx models? if a part is used by the same type of unit it will also have the same failure occure .

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Nissan Xterra. While operating the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed false readings. The gauge showed that the fuel tank had less fuel than what was actually present. Also, on several occasions, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed and the vehicle did not immediately stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but no failures were found. Later, while driving, the vehicle stalled after depressing the brake pedal. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 73,000.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/19/2019

Vehicle fuel gauge not working properly, showing fuel tank at empty at all times.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

The fuel gauge goes to empty even when the tank is at least half full; it does same when vehicle is standing idle for a short while too. Airbag dash warning light flashing. There are recalls for both these issues, but Nissan claims my VIN is not included. The date assigned to the "when did this happen" is an approximation.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

The fuel gauge is functioning improperly sending inaccurate readings. With a full tank of gas the gauge sometimes reads empty and sometimes reads quarter tank full. Often accompanied by a "service engine soon" light. The problem can occur at any time in motion or after refueling.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

Gas gauge doesn't read the fuel level correctly. Tank could be empty and the gauge reads the tank as not empty and vice versa. Vehicle stopped on empty tank even tough the gauge showed I had a quarter tank of gas.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/14/2018

I am a 64 yr old woman driving across the country alone when my fuel gauge indicated I have gas when I did not. Luckily I was not in traffic. This is a dangerous situation when in the remote areas that I travel in utah where gas stations can be 100 miles apart and no cell coverage. I had only 67365 miles on the vehicle and didnt expect to have problems. I found that 2006 Xterras were recalled for those made in a 3 month period, however my vehicle is 2 months prior to their voluntary recall. Same gas tank and sending unit as those recalled. (campaign id #: pc042 NHTSA #: 10v-075) I am guessing Nissan did a partial voluntary recall in hopes the NHTSA wouldnt investigate the issue. Now the fuel gauge shows half a tank just after a fillup and then gradually jumps to full after the vehicle sits or is driven for a bit. The engine light stays on unless cleared. Diagnostic scan was done which indicated code p0463 which is defined as a fuel level sensor sensor high circuit input,.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/26/2018

Transmission fluid in radiator in 2016, had to rebuild radiator. 2018 gas gauge fuel sensor not reading accurately. Only registers 1/4 tank even when filled.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. After the contact filled up the fuel tank and continued driving, she noticed that the fuel gauge was on empty. On another occasion, while there was a quarter tank of fuel in the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed a full tank. In addition, the fuel warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced symptoms related to NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was towed twice to an independent mechanic due to the loss of fuel. The mechanic diagnosed that a new fuel tank was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall campaign was expired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 93,000.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Xterra. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, the power steering and brakes failed. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced at casa Nissan (5855 montana Ave, el paso, TX) per NHTSA campaign number: 04v230000 (fuel system) three times previously. The dealer inspected the vehicle and added sealant twice before; however, the fuel tank was replaced during the final visit. The remedies failed to repair the vehicle over the past three years. The vehicle was driven to Nissan of las cruces (1801 s main st, las cruces, nm, 88005), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 28820775. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/24/2017

While driving my Xterra which has 65000 miles approximately, my gas gauge dropped from 3/4 tank to below empty. My check engine light came on and my car immediately stopped in the road. I had to be towed where I was told I have p0463 and my car was out of gas. I was told this is a major problem with. Issa Xterra. I went to dealer to get it replaced and they said $700. I see that this is too common an issue. I think the manufacturer should be responsible for this defect. I'm just happ happy I wasn't driving on the highway when it stopped. Luckily I was on side road.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/17/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The vehicle was towed the contact's residence. The contact put in some fuel and was able to drive the vehicle. The contact visited the mclarty Nissan of benton dealer, located at 19960 I-30, benton, ar 72019 and was told that there was a recall (NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). I searched the VIN and advised that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. Fe.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

Fuel gauge does not properly work. Reads empty when full. Reads 1/4 tank close to that for about a gallon and then goes immediately back to empty. Recall on some models. My Xterra currently at shop getting fixed. Educated guess on how much fuel you have and vehicle can run out of gas. Check engine light also comes on when gas gauge fails.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/20/2016

Fuel gauge never goes below 1/4 sticks and is inaccurate, same symptoms as recalled vehicles, yet this VIN wasn't include in the recall and should be. Tank runs empty yet still indicates 1/4 full; a safety hazard. This vehicle should be included to the recall for the exact same defective parts!.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/16/2016

Recall number 10v075000 recall date 03/03/2010 component fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank summary Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, Xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. Consequence this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. What owners should do dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before March 22, 2010. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261. . Read more...

The contact mentioned that due to the failure, the vehicle shut off due to no fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel sensor and the flow in the fuel tank was not functioning correctly and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the vehicle failed the state inspection due to an issue with the flow gauge. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 89,000. The VIN was not available.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

Fuel gauge has been or radically dropping to empty when fuel tank is more than half full. Service engine light came on with code 0463. Fuel lever sensor high output. This is a common issue with this make and model and not part of any current recall.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

Nissan Xterra 2007 fuel tank quantity sensor is misreading quantity of fuel in tank causing the quantity to show empty when full and showing 1/2 full when empty. This cause "check engine light" to illuminate, which causes immediate failure at vehicle inspection site. That in turn causes the vehicle to not be registratable.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/28/2016

The fuel sender unit is erratic. Shows empty when fuel is half tank or full. Triggers chenk engine light intermittently.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

I have a fuel gauge problem exactly as described in the nyssa Xterra recall, gauge reaches 3/4 tank but won't go lower. Then all of the sudden it drops to empty. My local Nissan, allen jay Nissan says my VIN is not covered in the recall and they aren't fixing the problem, they just extended the warranty. Well my car is 10years old and no longer has a warranty at 182,000 miles. I won't pay $400 to get it fixed because it is a known defect and they need to fix it. Who do I contact at Nissan to fight this injustice?.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

I have a faulty fuel sending unit that has been recalled by Nissan but does not acknowledge my VIN as part of the recall. I am having the same issue as many Nissan owners regarding an inaccurate fuel gauge as a result of faulty fuel sending unit. As noted in the recall (campaign id# pc042): "Nissan is conducting a voluntary safety recall campaign on certain my2006 and 2008 frontier, Xterra, and pathfinder vehicles to address a potential fuel gauge inaccuracy. Specifically, the issue can cause the fuel gauge to show that the vehicle still has some fuel, typically about one quarter tank, when the fuel tank is actually empty. To remedy this potential condition, Nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign to replace the fuel level sending unit with a new one at no charge for parts or labor. " this is accurate to my problem where the fuel gauge will read inaccurately at any point, leaving the operator with uncertainty of fuel level and potential disabled vehicle, leading to potentially life-threatening situations. At one point I ran out of gas on the highway and had to quickly make it across three lanes to a safe stopping point, even though my fuel gauge read over 1/4 tank. My vehicle was towed to local garage where I was told I ran out of gas and had to pay for towing, gas, etc as a result of faulty Nissan parts.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/04/2015

As I was turning left onto a highway and in the intersection, my vehicle died. Had to be pushed through the intersection while traffic was being held back in 5 lanes. The gas tank registered an eighth tank of gas but it was, in fact, out of gas. I had to have this repaired at a repair shop because I was not near a dealer. I never received a recall notice(campaign id# pc 042, NHTSA# 10v-075) but found out later there was one on certain VIN numbers with my make and model vehicle. The dealer claims it should be covered but Nissan says this VIN # is not covered. Regardless, I had the described problem with the make and model vehicle that has this problem and I could have been killed. Perhaps they need to add more VIN #'s to their recall list and get on the same page as their dealers. This was an expensive repair for me to absorb. I was to leave on a road trip in 2 days. Thankfully it happened before I was traveling.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

I smell gas inside the car, I took it to a shop and they told me the gas tank is all rusted on top, causing the gas to spill out. Speaking with Nissan they said this is part of wear and tear of the vehicle, which I do not agree with.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. While driving at an unknown speed, the fuel gauge improperly displayed that the fuel tank had over 1/4 of fuel although the tank was nearly empty. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel sending unit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system). The failure mileage was 80,500.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Service engine soon light when fuel goes below half tank. The fuel gauge may not always show correct reading, makes it possible for car to stop in middle of highway, in middle of snow-storm, or other dangerous situation, the service engine light comes on when fuel level is below half tank and resets itself when fuel tank is full.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

1. Engine light on - remains on, need to reset - at 77000+ miles fuel gauge is off chart when full tank is filled up fuel gauge is unreliable, need to use the speedometer to gauge gas tank VIN# is not on the recall list under fuel tank recall campaign 10v075000 VIN# id for recall=engine only=campaign# 10v517000; total recall listed = 5 for 2006 Xterra models 2. Bought the car used/pre-owned. . . . Thank you for your attention & time.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

The fuel gauge in our Xterra does not read accurately. We were told it needs a fuel sensor. Even when the tank is full we have to track the number of miles traveled because the gauge floats or reads "empty. " I have read over 30 similar complaints just on this site. An investigation should be launched since this was a problem for vehicles up to 2006 as well. Obviously it wasn't fixed for 2007.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, then the vehicle stalled because it ran out gas, the gas gauge did not specified that the vehicle needed gas. The vehicle was taken to a gas station and got filled up, but the gas gauge still did not display the actual tank full. The vehicle was not taken to dealer or an independent mechanic to get a diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Bp.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

Went to the gas station to fill up and the gas hand stayed at the same position. When starting the ignition the fuel gauge dropped below e. When restarting the car the next day, the fuel gauge said I had 1/4 tank. The vehicle stayed at 1/4 tank and changed back and forth to below e. The car then ran out of gas in the middle of the road.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.
