Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Xterra based on all problems reported for the Xterra.

1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

Check engine light came. Gas gauge reads empty even after you fill it up completely. Diagnostic code p0463, fuel level sensor. The fuel gauge does not accurately state the amount of fuel in the tank. This issue is known to Nissan and NHTSA. It is a safety issue as you never know how much gas is left in the tank or how many miles you can go. This was previously recalled for certain 2006, 2007 and 2008 Xterras. Not sure why it hasn't been for the 2005 model year as it is the same issue.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. When the vehicle was started, the fuel gauge displayed 1/8 less fuel in the tank than the previous night. The contact stated that the failure started approximately three months ago that the fuel gauge did not reflect the actual amount of fuel in the tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (firestone in los angeles, California) where it was diagnosed that the fuel sender module failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 27901980. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Dec. 2014: gas gauge reading became erratic. Contacted dealer who said sensor in tank would have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $400. May 12, 2015, delivered vehicle to dealer to repair gas gauge sensor, also experiencing vibration and rumble at 40 to 45 mph which started 10 days ago (88,000 miles). Dealer informed me that vibration was do to "insulating sleeve" on driveshaft that had broken loose and driveshaft needs to be replaced at a cost of $750. Vibration at 40-45 mph sounds suspiciously similar to problem others have reported as transmission goes out due to coolant contamination.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Fuel gauge registers empty to arbitrarily amounts of remaining fuel regardless how much fuel is actually in tank. Ongoing problem to date.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/06/2012

I filled up the gas tank and noticed that the gauge failed to rise to reflect the amount of fuel I added. A day later the check engine light came on, registering code p0463. Since this incident, the check engine light has been on and the fuel gauge has been reading various levels of fuel, with no way to determine if it is accurate or not.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/15/2012

After fueling the car, the fuel level indicator either shows the tank as empty or a random level (never full, although the tank was just filled). The level from then on is always unreliable and fluctuates at random levels; there is no way to know what is the level of fuel in the tank at any time. I am afraid that the car will run out of fuel without me knowing and stop the car in the middle of a highway or while crossing train tracks. This happens all the time, the indicator never shows full when I fill up the tank. It shows empty or 1/4 full and then after a couple of days the level goes up to a level that I know it is too high for the amount of driving that I have done.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

My 2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge is not showing the proper amount of fuel that is going into the tank. I fill it up and the gauge stays on empty. It will not register a full tank. The service engine light remains on and will not go off. After performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".

8 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/24/2010

My 2005 Nissan Xterra's fuel gauge stopped registering the correct amount of fuel in the gas tank. I recently ran out of gas in the middle of an intersection and had to push my car to a gas station in order to fill up. I've found that this is a well known problem, and recalls have been ordered by Nissan, but my specific VIN was not included in the recall. My mechanic has checked the error codes and agreed that this is the identical problem described in Nissan's similar recall.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

-fuel system has a problem registering the amount of fuel in the tank, the problem is associated with a faulty fuel level sending unit that Nissan refuses to recall. -whining noise coming from inside the engine, noise comes from a faulty timing chain tensioner guide that Nissan refuses to recall.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

The gas gauge has been an issue not reading properly and in fact the gauge may also show the steady amber light indicating there is no gas in the tank, when it is a full tank of gas. The steering column was found metal shavings from the Nissan dealer. I had complained about the shaft having trouble. I was informed that it was a plastic pin that broke and there will be no effect on the steering. So I had brought it back after 4 years of dealing with loose steering wheel. Invoice 284857 from the valley hi Nissan tag t7933 was repaired 03 April 2015. I feel this should have been a recall since I found there are many complaints from midas mechanic.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/12/2009

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra with 45k and the fuel needle goes to "e" and then fluctuates up to half then goes down again. The "service engine soon" light is on all the time. I can't tell what my fuel level is because it is not reading correctly. Even when the tank is filled up, the fuel needle reads empty! I have run out of gas on the freeway and had to contact a tow truck service for fuel. I have had the vehicle diagnosed and it would cost me $567 for the part (fuel sending unit) not including labor. I will not pay this ridiculous amount as I have found out through other Nissan Xterra owners that they are having the same issue. I have found this out through an internet discussion forum. There should be a recall for 2005 and newer models of Nissan Xterra's.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

1. Normal use of vehicle. City driving mostly. 2. Fuel gauge needle does not correctly show the amount of fuel after initially filling up the gas tank. After some minutes of driving, the needle correctly shows a full tank. Then after about 3/4 fuel level, the needle drops back to empty. Additionally, the digital gauge does not accurately compute fuel miles left and mpg. This behavior repeats each time the fuel tank is filled. Without these functions I am unable to determine how much fuel I have left in the tank. Leaving the possibility for being stranded somewhere, if I do not accurately guess at how much gas is left. 3. Nothing was done (yet) to correct the failure. A mechanic told me it the problem is probably caused by a malfunction fuel sending unit/sensor. I have also confirmed the diagnosis on x. Nissanhelp. Com. I am awaiting to determine if these vehicles could be recalled by the dealers and/or Nissan, as it appears many people are having the same issue.
