1 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/25/2011

I opened case # [xxx] with Nissan regarding the failure of all four window regulators in the Nissan Xterra I purchased from Nissan of bourne (MA) in 2000 on martha's vineyard. That is where the vehicle is garaged and used and only has 67k miles on it. The windows have been acting up for quite some time (many years) now and the vehicle is primarily used only in the summer. There was a window regulator warranty extension (pu307) issued on this vehicle and there are numerous online complaints about the problem. Nissan consumer affairs has rejected the claim since it is beyond the warranty extension period even though I was never notified of the problem since it only applied to "warm weather" states. I'd like to escalate this claim to encourage Nissan to pick up the cost of parts as this is a safety issue should the window get stuck in the up or down position. There are numerous online complaints about this problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Failure Date: 07/11/2010

Window regulators all have been malfunctioning on my 2001 Nissan Xterra.

3 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/02/2010

On my 2001 Nissan Xterra, the windows are nearly inoperable on front driver and passenger sides. They started out slowly and getting stuck half the way up, it would usually take about 4 attempts to get window all the way up. This is a serious Nissan problem, and according to other forums, others are having same problem. The windows need to have a recall on them, it is very aggravating to not be able to roll the windows up or down, what if your door gets hit by a car, and door is inoperable?.

4 Power Window problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/06/2007

Three of the power windows on the 2003 Nissan Xterra have ceased from functioning. The only window functioning was the front driver side window.

6 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/23/2006

It's been 1 1/2 year that I have the problem with rear windows on my Nissan Xterra. They can go down, but they want go up. I have two kids of 5 and 16 years old and I am little concerned what would happen if I put the windows down by mistake. I think this is very unsafe. I did contact Nissan and they told me that this is not they problem. I did look online and I found that I am not the only one. This is very unsafe if I open those windows by mistake lets say in the middle of nowhere. Very unsafe!!!!! thank you!.

7 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/17/2006

(1) my driver window began to grind when I used it. Shortly after it would not work at all. (2) currently, 3 of 4 of my window regulators do not work properly. I started to look on the net to see if others are having this problem and that is how I found this web site. Nissan never sent me anything on this issue even though they had a voluntary service campaign (pu306 & pu307). They don't consider it a danger, but I think that in the middle of a michigan winter when my windows won't go up and you have a baby in the back seat dangerous. After multiple phone calls to Nissan they want me to take it into to the dealer and pay $100 for them to diagnose the problem. I don't have $100 to gamble with knowing that it may lead to not reimbursement. I am the only owner of this vehicle and Nissan has always had my contact info, yet they never sent me any notice of this expired campaign.

8 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

9 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/13/2006

Both rear window regulators failed in the consumer's 2001 Nissan Xterra. The blower motor only blows on high. The dealer found that the blower motor resistor shorted out. The check engine light illuminated while driving. The dealer diagnosed that the thermostat had to be replaced.

10 Power Window problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/12/2006

In may 2005 the power window for the driver's door on my 2000 Xterra (4wd-v6) began to only go up intermittently (no problem going down). Now the driver's window will not go up at all. The other three windows (passenger and rear) are also beginning to exhibit intermittent and slow movement in the upward direction. A test of the controller and motor indicate the components are receiving power. As I understand it, other Nissan models (altima & pathfinder) and 01-02 Xterra with similar components have the same problem and have been recalled.

11 Power Window problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/08/2006

Vehicle was returned to dealer with driver-side window slow to rise. Dealer advised there was no problem, after 3rd visit, dealer advised that they have re-greased rotors inside door and nothing more to do. Vehicle was taken to different dealer and had raising arm replaced in both front windows. Problem is consistent with 02, 03 and some 04 Xterras as per Nissan service shops.

12 Power Window problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/24/2005

The contact experienced several problems with vehicle. First problem concerned power steering. The steering wheel was hard to turn. This was accompanied by a grinding noise. The dashboard panel lights did not illuminate. They simply stopped working without any prior warning. There was technical service bulletin 10001332 concerning the electrical system. In addition, the power window on the driver's side was difficult to close. In order to get the window to automatically roll up it must be manually assisted. The vehicle has not been seen by a dealer.

13 Power Window problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/15/2005

Electric window regulator failure without warning, window stays in the open position, right front was repaired, right rear also broke immediately after, not yet repaired, windows are rarely used so this is not a wear and tear or mileage factor, dealer said manufacturer would cover up to 60k so Nissan knows the part is defective (they sell an "all-window" repair kit because they know they will all fail), a known defective part should be repaired equally for all owners.

14 Power Window problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/17/2005

Power window device on the drivers side seemed to work fine with the exception of rattling if it was not all the way up or down. And everytime that it would be rolled up it sounded like a chipping noise. I took it into town center Nissan, kennesaw, GA and they replaced it the same day (2-27-06) and it has been working just fine. The vehicle came that way, but I had no issue in getting it replaced.

15 Power Window problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/29/2005

Power window regulator and motor failure. Took my 2002 Nissan Xterra in for its 45,000 mile standard service. 2 weeks earlier I noticed that the passenger side rear power window motor stopped working. So I asked the technician to look at the issue. Technician called me later in day to say that the motor died, and needed to be replaced. Also, warranty expired. This surprised me because being the only driver of the car, without kids, I only put the rear windows down a handful of times since owning the vehicle. It seemed very premature for this part to fail. I told the technician this, and he said that there was a service bulletin on the car's window regulator, but not the motor. . . So he would be willing to cover labor if I purchased the part for $260. 00. I agreed that he should order the part. Later that night, I went on the internet to research the issue, and found that thousands of consumers with 2001 and 2002 Xterras had similar issues with their power window motors failing at 12-45,000 miles. I suspected that the regulator defect was causing the motors to work harder than they should and burn out prematurely. I asked the Nissan dealership to replace free of charge the regulator/motor unit since the known regulator defect caused the motor failure. They told me that the motor had nothing to do with the regulator, and refused to honor this request. I and thousands of other people were being unfairly treated. What was worse was that I found on line that the regulator/motor part was sold as 1 unit and for $66. 00 with a lifetime warranty whereas the replacement until Nissan was selling me cost $260. 00 with only a 12 month limited warranty.

16 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/04/2005

I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra and the power windows don't operate properly. They roll down, but need assistance manually to go up. This is occurring on all windows. I have been researching and it is apparent that all Xterra owners are having this problem. I have owned a Nissan for over 5 years with no problems and out of brand loyalty I buy another one and it has a problem that will happen over and over. Can someone please help or issue a recall.

17 Power Window problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/15/2004

I own a 2003 Nissan Xterra and the windows on the front and back passenger side roll up at a snail's pace, if they roll up at all. I have had the car looked at and can get no answers.

18 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/11/2004

My motor died on my front passenger side power windows on my 2001 Xterra. I was told that the cost to have Nissan fix/replace the motor would be $300.

19 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/11/2004

All 4 power window regulators replaced under recall, right front failed 2 more times and was again replaced under warranty. . Then r/f power window motor failed, the motor still spun but the gear that locks into the regulator broke. . . Nissan service said the repair would be over 400. 00 to repair. I told advisor that motor had to be unbolted from a broken regulator 2 times and that the stress put on the motor gear when regulators continually jammed most likely was a contributing factor in the motor failure. I asked him to call Nissan help desk for me and explain my situation before I had to do it. . He said he would and Nissan agreed to replace the motor. I am a auto mechanic with over 20 years on the job experience and manage a repair shop. I knew as well as Nissan that the regulators had a definite impact on the motor failure. . . I wonder if a regular consumer with no knowledge of power windows systems would know to question a 400. 00 charge. If not, there are many people getting taken to the bank. Note: this whole process started in March of 2004 with the first replacement of all the regulators and ended oct 2004 with the replacement of the motor and 2 more regulators.

20 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/20/2004

Both front windows were coming off tract. The passenger side is completely off, and it is taped in the up position now. The driver's side window "sways" in the wind when it is partway down. I have not been able to get the window repaired yet. Both windows have been temperamental for the past few weeks; sometimes going up and sometimes not.

21 Power Window problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/03/2004

Front passenger window began to slow during raising, then it stalled down and the two rear windows froze down also, no action taken at this time.

22 Power Window problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/03/2004

2000 Nissan exterra left side power window motor failed. I know of others having same problem.

23 Power Window problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/19/2004

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra that I have had no complaints about since I purchased it in August of 2001. My wife and I currently rolled 55,000 on the odometer. Last week when I got into my truck after a long day at the office my driver side window would not roll down. Due to the warm weather I leave my windows half way. It rolled up fine however would not go down. Today while researching "how to take off my door panels". I came across dozens of complaints with people all over the us experiencing the same problems . Some people have had to replace all 4 of the window regulators before their warranty has expired. I want to know if Nissan is going to take any action on this and send out a recall to help out the people who truly believe they purchased a good reliable vehicle for their family. I dont think I need to spend another $400. 00 on something that they should have made right in the first place. Thank you.

24 Power Window problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/02/2004

The windows on the front and back on the driver side go down and will not go up. Vehicle was given an extended warranty from 30,000 miles to 60,000 miles after vehicle had already 60,000 miles on it. Therefore, the extended warranty was pointless. Currently, consumer had to pay out of pocket to repair the windows.

25 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/05/2004

Certain model year 2001-2002 frontier and Xterra models may experience unexpected or difficult operation of windows. Primary cause is extended high temperature conditions affecting window. Nissan will replace window regulator for a period of up to 5 years or vehicle in-service date or 60,000 miles which ever occurs first. My complaint is that my Nissan was manufactured on Nov. 2000 and I bought the vehicle in July of 2002. It has 69,000 miles on it and since I've purchased this vehicle have noticed that windows move up and down very slowly and sometimes will only roll up half way and then I have to apply a little pressure upward to get them to roll all the way up. I do not live in a all year round high temperature, I don't know where my vehicle came from originally but I feel this is a defect in workmanship and also a safety hazard in not be able to roll windows up and down with ease.

26 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/13/2003

I am having trouble with my windows all 4 of them don't work, it isn't the motor, it is the cable inside. . . It crinkles up. 2 of my windows are stuck down. I am not the only person having this problem. I know of two others having the exact problem. All three of us have 2001 Nissan Xterra's. Thanks, matt willand.

27 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/24/2003

2 window regulators are out again. Since buying this car we have had them replaced 8 times. Car is no longer under warranty. Friend that bought same type of Xterra at the same time has also replaced them 5 times. This item is obviously defective and should have been recalled and/or redesigned. Now I either can't use the windows or have to pay hundreds of dollars per year to keep getting them replaced. I will never buy another Nissan as long as I live because of this. Never. Just look through the listing here and see how many people have this exact same problem. How Nissan can act like it is normal is an atrocity.

28 Power Window problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/06/2003

31 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/24/2003

Power windows in my 2001 Nissan Xterra are breaking and will not roll up.

32 Power Window problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/15/2003

I have a problem with the front windows of my Nissan Xterra, I bought the car two months ago and the front windows stopped working twice already. I was told by the service manager that there is a problem with the window regulators in the Xterras and that Nissan does not have a recall or even has a solution to this problem other than having to change the same part over and over. As we all know we buy new cars for their dependability not because we like the payments!.

33 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/14/2003

The window regulators in all 4 windows of my 2001 Xterra have all faild repeatedly. The drivers window has failed 4 times and all other windows have been replaced 3 times. Now today the window regulator in the drivers side has failed again and I am 300 miles out of warranty. The dealer indicated to me that this is considered a normal wear and tear item and no longer covered. The dealer also indicated that this is a problem that Nissan is aware of and something that happens "all the time" with the Xterra.

34 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/12/2003

I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra, purchased in July 2001. The window regular motor quit working on one of the rear windows, with less than normal use. This happened within 100 miles out of warranty.

35 Power Window problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

The mechanism to raise and lower the power windows in Xterras is defective. The repair is $300-400 per window, and includes replacement of the defective part with a defective part. I was told that I should "stop driving off-road," the dealer claimed that I "broke" the mechanism because I got dust inside the door. . . I'm an archaeologist. . . I bought the car because I have to drive off-road! two more windows are broken now, and when I checked owner groups on the internet, I found that they have devised some solutions to this problem---all solutions require the car owner to figure out how to repair the windows themselves. One guy has fixed his windows seven times! I'm embarrassed to submit this after reading the horrid problems some other people have had with their Xterras, but this is an expensive problem. . . Some of those people will certainly have this one on top of all they already have!.
