Failure Date: 07/10/2014

Driving down road all lights quit working nothing on dash works.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

The first time it stopped working, I thought maybe I had just a burned out signal lamp, but then it started working again. It was pretty random at first, but now it will not work at all, or it will start working blink twice and then just stop. It may be "dead" for a long while and then just start back up. Usually it just doesn't work at all anymore. I have driven down the highway with it turned on and it will be 5-10 minutes later and it will start blinking again. I see there is/was a recall for this exact problem, for model years 2000-2001 and I have a 2001, but they claim my vehicle is not part of the recall. The recall is 03v327000, or gm recall 03043a. The a was because they expanded it to include these two model years from an original recall. I talked to Oldsmobile directly and they say it is not part of the recall. That was in a call, and I sent gm an e-mail detailing this problem, but I have not heard anything back from them either. I would think with all the other recalls they have going on, they should just accept this one and not make a big issue out of it. More negative press. As I was looking through the potential issues/recalls I did see a few other bulletins they had for issues on that model year and vehicle, some of which I am experiencing as well. I do understand that this is a 14-15 year old car, but I would love to drive it for a long time yet.

6 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

Upon purchasing this vehicle in March of 2014 I have had numerous issues with it. One issue being it would not start. I let the dealer I bought it from look at it and he took it to a garage that he usually deals with and they told me they replaced the starter. However, I'm almost positive it had something to do with the ignition switch recall. Another issue is the horn randomly started going off in the driveway one day and now the horn does not work at all. The most concerning issue is that of the electrical problems I've been having with the car. The parking lights stay on, forcing me to have to disconnect the battery every time I leave the car for extended periods of time. The turning signals work intermittently, sometimes only after 7pm through 8am I won't even be able to get the signals to turn on. Other times they won't work if the windshield wipers are on.

7 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

Blinker intermittently stops working. I will go to signal a lane change and the blinker will not work. Then randomly it will start working again. This is a safety hazard because I am unable to signal my lane change and it causes me to break the law.

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 01/12/2012

There is intermittent clicking noise coming from the hazard switch. Gm issued a recall on this matter back in 2004. I went to my local gm dealer and he told me my VIN was not covered.

11 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Blinkers intermittently work. Every time I take it in for diagnosis and repair the blinkers work just fine and I can't get them to not work. Normally they will work immediately after turning on engine, then after a few turns stop working. Other times they will not work at all upon turning on engine. When the problem first began, I could turn on the left and right signal a few times and then the blinkers would work. Now it has gotten so bad this no longer works. My VIN falls just outside the recall number c258800 so a dealer is working with me to see if they can get it covered. This is a serious safety risk to yourself and other drivers! I have learned that the flasher assembly is generally what needs to be replaced which about $40. 00 plus tax and labor. I have also heard that the multi function switch generally needs to be replaced with the flasher assembly as they both are connected to the blinker system. Another issue could include the body control module which needs to be done at the dealer because certain codes need to be entered. Oldsmobile needs to include more vins in this recall. I hope this complaint helps others.

17 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

The blinkers and hazard switch work every now and then it cuts in and out. I had this problem fixed in 2005 under the original recall and now am having to have it fixed again.

18 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero that was not included in the hazard switch recall notice (applies to 1999 and 2001 vehicles and other gm cars) since spring of 2009 my car has been exhibiting the same problems as discussed in the recall. It has been getting worse since then. I feel that some of the bad switches made it into other years or the car was still built with 2001 parts. I purchased it from an olds dealer in summer of 2002. It was a gm program used car on the road since January 2002.

19 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 03/07/2009

The safety hazard switch as well as the turning signal switch is not working properly on my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. I later found out that there was a recall for this problem. I contacted the gm dealership and the told me " since your car is over 100,000 miles and it's showing that the car was repaired once with same incident with the previous owner, that they could not assist the problem". I have had the signal switch replaced, later to find out that wasn't the problem ( which cost $150). I feel that this is a very big safety hazard for me and my small child because this could result in a injury crash if someone runs into the back of me, please help.

20 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 01/24/2009

About a year ago I pushed my hazard button and it fell back into the dashboard. So now there is a hole there and I cannot use my flashers if needed.

21 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 08/03/2008

There was no accident, but there might be due to the fact that my wife's 2002 Oldsmobile Alero hazard switch is faulty causing intermittent turning signal failure, the same problem with previous models of the Alero. I called Oldsmobile and they will not replace the hazard switch under recall which apparently they told me my VIN isn't included, even though it's the same exact issue and problem. I thought I would notify you of the problem that seems was not corrected when the recalls were issued for previous years. The recall should cover any Alero that experiences this issue, not just certain VIN numbers.

22 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

Blinker is very intermittent and dangerous. Sometimes it works, other times nothing. When it is not working the hazard or blinker sound seems to be going off and on constantly. The repair shop said that they would have to tear apart the whole dash just to troubleshoot the problem. This is a very scary problem and can potentially lead to tickets or accidents if not fixed.

23 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 05/15/2006

I bought my 2002 olds Alero in may of 2006 and have had problems ever since. I had to have the front left wheel bearing replaced 2 days after I bought the car. The dealership paid for the parts and labor that time, but I was on my own from there. Frequently I was having the problem of the engine turning over, but not starting. I had to call a tow truck 6 times in 2 months. The fuel pump was replaced and a week later I had the same problem. This time it the body module was replaced. 2 days later I was calling the tow truck again. The ignition switch was replaced this time. The next time I threatened to sue the mechanic who had worked on my car. This time the car started right up for the mechanic. He contacted gm to see what the problem could possibly be and of course they had never heard of this problem. After the car was towed to the shop a few more times the mechanic finally got a hold of another mechanic who specialized in gm repairs. That mechanic told him about the faulty security system. He passed on the info to me. If the car won't start, turn the key on for 10 min. Until the security light stops flashing, turn the key off, take it out of the ignition and try it again. This has worked every time for me, but really, who has the extra 10-15 minutes to spare every time they need to go somewhere, just in case their car won't start? I also have problems with the turning signals working only when they want to. This seems to be a common problem among Alero owners. After the nightmares I've had with this car and the disrespect shown by gm to their "valued customers", I will never buy another gm model as long as I live! buyer beware!!!.
