We have the same problem as gm recall 03043 for 2001 Oldsmobile Alero models, but are told our VIN is not included in the recall. Why? we have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. Turn signals are intermittently inoperative. Directly related to the hazard warning lights. If you mess with the hazards, turning on and off, you maybe might get your turn signals to work intermittently. This is what the recall is directly about, but when our VIN is entered into recall data base, it says no recalls for this VIN. Doesn't make sense to us. Very dangerous to drive without turn signals. Please advise. Matthew.

Just a couple of days after the purchase of the vehicle the brakes were making a bad scrubbing noise, and I had no turn signal at all I noticed a clicking sound coming from the hazard warning light . During the clicking sound the turn signal would work at times and I would smell something like a burning smell. While the car was park and no one around it the lights would come on inside and out by their self and this causes my battery to go dead and I have to boost it off. I have contacted the car dealer that I purchased it from and they were very rude and hateful and told me it was my problem and that there is nothing they can do about it. That they sold it to me at a good deal and they could not help me.

The turn signals and hazard lights will periodically fail, likely from a ground-out issue with the flasher relay. I have to struggle with the plastic cover part around the hazard switch and relay to rectify this problem. It would appear that vibration and bumps cause this problem to occur. There are times when driving down the freeway that I need to change lanes and my turn signals stop working and it makes me hesitant to change lanes. In addition, it makes me worry about making turns in the city. I could be issued a ticket over a problem that occurs randomly and would not be resolved by replacing the part.
Turn signal and hazard lights failure. It started with the turn signals, they would work sometimes and then eventually cut out completely. Hazards worked for a short time after turn signals went out, then both cut out completely. Flasher was replaced and fuses were tested and were not the problem.
I own a 2004 Alero Oldsmobile I purchased the car used in 2008. It later only had one recall which was for the ignition issues. While the car is on and in drive the key is still able to be pulled out of the ignition and the car still remains on and in drive. I am also experiencing my blinkers not working 100% of the time, (NHTSA campaign # for this issue is 03v327000). I can press the hazard light button quickly and frequently while pushing on the signal stick and that sometimes will make them work, other times that doesn't work and neither my signals nor hazard signals work at all. Lastly, and most frightening, in the midst of driving the vehicle has stalled, and will jump as the rpm's bounce back and forth, (NHTSA campaign # for this issue is 07e021000). There had been several times this has happened and a few times the vehicle actually did shut off in the middle of driving, I've had to push the car off the road, and wait 10-15 minutes before I attempt to start the vehicle again. The car was tested for over 3 hours and they found nothing wrong with the engine or battery, which is why I am certain it is the fuel pressure recall. I took the car in for the key recall I brought this up to them as well, (as my windows also do not work), I purchased a new gas cap as instructed hoping that would fix this dangerous situation with the car stalling out, it did not fix the issue. There are recalls that my car falls under and that I am experiencing, I asked why these life threatening recalls weren't able to be fixed on my car, I was told they weren't listed on my VIN. Please help my vehicle and the millions others be updated with the NHTSA to request the manufacturer to review this more closely in relation to the ones actually affected by these issues. These issues are extremely dangerous and pose as a threat not only to myself and family but to other drivers around me.
I recently bought a used 2001 Oldsmobile Alero gl and not even a day later, the turn signals have stopped working. The fuses are still in great shape and the hazard lights still work. I have done my research and have found that a recall was issued for certain VIN #'s for the turn signal relay and hazard light relay to be replaced. Although my VIN is not one of the issued numbers, I am experiencing the same problems. This is a danger when driving and I want my VIN to be investigated for the same recall. I just bought this car and was unaware of these issues. My safety and the safety of my family mean the most, and I can't afford to fix this problem myself when it wasn't caused by me in the beginning. Oldsmobile/gm should be responsible for fixing all affected vehicles and not just the ones in the recall bulletin.
The blinkers stopped working, but realized there was a short with the hazard lights as soon as I would push the hazard lights in a little the blinkers would start working. Recently pushing the hazard lights does not make the blinker blink, nor does it cause the hazard lights to work anymore. Was told by mechanic this is a common problem with the 2003 Alero.

Vehicle turn signals work intermittently. The hazard lights, and turn signals will stop functioning going down the road, and will randomly start functioning again. Often in the middle of traffic I will be unable to signal because they have stopped functioning. I feel that this is very dangerous, as well as causes the vehicle's operator to inadvertently break traffic laws. I believe this exact problem was recalled in the same make, and model, but an earlier year. I think that the recall should be expanded to cover later model years, because the issue continued into the later model years. A simple internet search will show that this is a major problem with this vehicle, and many owners of this make and model have experienced it.
The contact owns a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated that intermittently, the turn signals would independently activate and the hazard lights became operable. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnosis or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
This car is experiencing the same problems as described in NHTSA recall 03v327000. The signal lights and hazard lights are intermittently working and not reliable at all. Called to see if Oldsmobile/gm would fix the issue but they deny responsibility because the VIN is not entered on their database.
This incident occurred for the first time on a rainy day in 2011. I was a new driver at the time. While I was traveling at approximately 45 mph on my way to school, I put on my turn signal to change lanes. There was heavy traffic on the road, and I was going to need someone to let me into the lane. My turn signal, however, malfunctioned and would not illuminate. The resulting lack of communication between myself and the other driver very nearly caused an accident. This problem has persisted intermittently for the last three years. The malfunctioning of the turn signals occurs most often during wet or humid conditions. Only recently did I discover the source of the problem. When I attempt to activate the turn signal and it malfunctions, it can oftentimes be remedied by applying a small amount of pressure to the hazard light button. It was only a few days ago that I encountered an existing recall for earlier models of my car. The hazard light button has been recalled on the previous two model years (2001-2002) of the Oldsmobile Alero. It can not be a coincidence that the same problem is occurring in my vehicle. I looked into getting the button replaced, but the labor costs make replacement an expensive option. I should not have to pay for a systemic defect that egregiously affects the functionality and safety of my vehicle. Please consider extending the recall of the hazard light button to the 2003 model year of the Oldsmobile Alero. Thank you.
I just purchased a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero and everything worked fine I got it home and the blinkers started to only work sometimes I haven't even got to drive it because I'm afraid to get pulled over. I immediately got online and found that it could be the hazard switch which appears to have been recalled if I'm correct. It appears that because I'm over 150,000 miles I'm not covered but the problem didn't occur before that limit. I spoke the previous owner and they said it had just recently and was not like this when she purchased it at just over 150,000 miles and to just push the hazard light button a few times and it kicks in but that is not a permanent fix and if there was a recall and the problem doesn't occur until after the allotted miles I don't see what good it is.
The contact owns a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. While driving approximately 32 mph the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle would not stop. In order to stop the vehicle the contact engaged the emergency brake. During the failure all of the warning lights illuminated. The speedometer also began to display random speeds ranging from 0 mph to 100 mph. The vehicle also stalled while driving. The hazard lights would not function. The failure was not diagnosed. The failure and current mileages were 97,213.

I received letter from GMC informing of a recall on the hazard flashing warning light (03v327000 or GMC # 03043. I was already experiencing issues at that time the dealer told me that it would have to be completely inoperable to be replaced. It is now inoperable and I have now been informed that my VIN # falls outside of the recall. How is it determined which VIN's are effected? is there any way to reinvestigate the effected VIN's? I would like to resolve this issue before the car is involved in an accident and not after. Thank you.
Since purchasing the car used in 2003, I have experienced intermittent signal and hazard light failure. Recently this has affected my brake lights. The brake lights, hazards and signals will no longer work unless in cases of extreme temperature changes ( heat on full blast or a/c on full blast). Also the signal lights continue to click even when not on. [xxx].
Blinker indicator on 2003 Oldsmobile Alero sporatically works, causing extreme danger when driving because it prevents driver from notifying other drivers on the road of lane changes, left/right hand turns, or vehicle problems when hazard lights are turned on but vehile fails to respond. 2003 Alero sporatically makes "click" noises such as when one uses the blinker, even though driver has not initiated blinker use and blinker indicator lights do not display on the outside of the vehicle. The "click" noise speed varies, sometimes every second, other times it "clicks" as if in a frenzy "click-a-click-a-click-a-click-a. . . " and so on. When blicker actually is put to use by driver, sometimes it operates as a blinker should, ie, staying on until either the turn is made or the driver manually returns the blinker indicator back to it's standard position, other times it will turn itself off prematurely, ie, while the driver is still waiting to turn, before steering wheel is turned - and blinker indicator remains in the "in use" position. . . Blinking lights on the outside of the vehicle just stop working as if the driver turned the blinker off him/herself. Other times when blinker is used, nothing happens. No blinker indicator lights appear on outside of the vehicle to indicate to other drivers that a turn/lane change is attempting to be made. According to Oldsmobile customer service on 9/1/10, there is no recall for this defect for the 2003 Alero, although other late model Aleros have had a recall issued for this same defect. See: NHTSA campaign id number: 03v327000. The only option at this point for 2003 Alero owners to prevent their vehicle from being a road hazard is to have a dealership fix the manufacturer defect at a cost of $120-$200 out of pocket, even though this is a known and common issue on late model Aleros. . . . Or wait around for Oldsmobile to issue a recall for a vehicle 7+ yrs old at this point and fix for free as they should.
Signal lights and hazard lights do not work all the time on my 2002 Alero. My daughter drives this car regularly and I am afraid that this issue will cause her to be in an accident. We cannot seem to get anyone to correct this issue.
I have an issue with my car where the hazard light/ turn signal work sometimes and sometimes they don't. I took it to a shop and I was told there was a recall on the soldering. I contacted gm and I was told there were no recalls on my vehicle but when I researched it online I found there was a recall on the same issue I am having. I would like to know how gm can turn this away because this is clearly a safety recall no matter how many miles is on the car or how old. What can I do? my reference number with gm is[xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I pressed the hazard button in the dash and the button receded into the dashboard. The lights were flashing. Pressed again to turn them off. The button has fallen out of the hole into the dash and is, of course, impossible to retrieve. So now I have no hazard lights. Lets hope I don' t need them.
The button I push to turn on/off the hazard lights worked but the switch went right through the dash and dropped inside. It appears (online) that others have had this happen on this car. Was there ever a recall on this particular defect ?.
I own a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. Recently, the turn signal and hazard lights work intermittently, occasionally, or sometimes not at all. I have viewed several complaints of owners via the internet with the same problem. I was informed via the makers of my vehicle that the year my vehicle was made, the problem, "if any" were fixed. I found that there had been work orders to allow the years before 2004 Oldsmobile Alero to be fixed free of charge for this same malfunction. I have called several part providers, and this part is unavailable. I have contacted the dealer, and for "fee", they first have to look at the vehicle, before they can tell me if they are able to get the part and if they can fix it. This is not only unsafe for me as a driver, but also for drivers and pedestrians who may be unsure of my turning intentions. Also, in the event I am stranded in my vehicle, I can't used my hazard lights. My vehicle as a whole is in great working condition, and I have no intentions of needing to replace it, just because of the turning signals. I feel that the problem was never fixed, and from the previous free services given for the other models, we who own the 2004 models are having to pay out of pocket, so they can regroup the previous free work given. This is very frustrating as a consumer. Please help. Thank you in advance for your diligence, in product and public safety.
The contact owns a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. Three months ago, the contact noticed that the turn signals and hazard lights worked intermittently. The manufacturer stated that her VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v327000 (exterior lighting: hazard flashing warning lights: switch). They further stated that the vehicle was old. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for repair. The failure mileage was 118,000 and current mileage was 119,723.
My hazard lights / turn signals work intermittently, sometimes they just flash like crazy. Same as 01's but gm says not 02's.
Gm told me that my VIN number for my Oldsmobile Alero 2000 does not apply to NHTSA recall 03v327000. (gm recall 03043)this recall exactly describes the problem that I have been having with my care off and on for quite a while. The turn signals and hazard lights intermittently fail. It is dangerous to expect the turn signal to work and find it does not.
Both left and right turn signals fail to operate intermittently. I can get them to start working again sometimes by activating the hazard lights and then trying the turn signals again, but sometimes the hazard lights also fail to function. It sounds like a spring is releasing sometimes when turning the steering wheel and then the turn signals fail afterward. The hazard switch became stuck and was replaced by the olds dealer back in 2001 or 2002. After that I could hear a mechanical noise in the steering column whenever I turned the wheel in either direction and when I complained to the dealer they said a spring had come loose and there was no safety issue and that it would cost $250 to repair, so I let it go and never repaired.
Horn of the car did not work after service for replacement of flasher unit. No trauma or injury to car. Inspection of car, it was found to be cracked steering wheel at the base and it damaged the horn ring. We were told that we could not drive the car until fixed as unsafe to drive. The dealer stated they had only ever seen 1 other such case in 37 years of service. Car must have had a defective steering wheel which may have caused an accident, injury or death.
The contact owns a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated that the turn signals and hazard lights intermittently failed to illuminate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact owns a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she noticed that the turn signals and hazard lights would not illuminate. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch) that could have been related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. The signal lights stopped working when the hazard lights were activated. The signal lights then began to work intermittently. The dealer stated that the contact would be responsible for the repair costs because his VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch). The current mileage was 87,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I bought a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero about 3 years ago, I noticed at the beginning that the turn signals nor the hazard lights worked. We have done everything from changing bulbs, checking fuses and ground wires to no avail. I recently started having another problem where the oil has backed up into my oil reservoir, my car has not overheated and no oil leaks. That is how I came to find out that there had been a recall on the hazard switch on the Alero. I contacted gm and gave them all the information that they needed. After being on hold for about 15 minutes, they then told me that it was not my make or model that had been recalled. The description on their website pin pointed my problem to a tee! and they are telling me that it is not their fault. My car has 91,000 miles. VIN: [xxx]. I feel that gm should be held accountable for this defect in my vehicle, just because it was not my make or model as they are stating does not mean that it could not happen. I believe that it is a defect that they should be held accountable for.
Turn signal and hazard light intermittently work. Problem stared around 90,000 miles. I¿ve had my car in the shop often due to numerous problems and thousands of dollars fixes. This one is dangerous and safety related.
Service vehicle soon, trac off light, and abs light took to dealer, out of warranty, private repair shop, cost-$500, grinding noise before lights turned on, dinging, lights went on, it was sensor in left front wheel bearing. Also have replaced front rotors, alternator at 65,000 miles. Key fob doesn''t lock drivers door. Hood on car replaced in 2006 under warranty because of blistering 2002-water leak onto drivers floor, 5 times to dealer, replaced side door gasket, problem had to be solved by replacing windshield gasket. I'm afraid of all these complaints about turn signal failure and hazard light failure and the car just quitting. Trading in this piece of **** as soon as paid off.
