While driving on a city road at approximately 40 mph, the car randomly began accelerating on its own. I immediately pushed on the brake pedal only to discover the car continued to accelerate. I stomped on the brake as hard as possible to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I moved the gear shift to neutral to try to keep the car from accelerating but that did nothing. I was barely able to turn off onto a side street where I was able to shut of the engine and make the car stop before hitting other vehicles. The car's engine revved up so high that it sounded as if it were going to blow up the engine. Now there is oil leaking severely under the car after this incident.

Car has been having acceleration issues her and there has had a fuel leak for awhile now and now all of a sudden the car will not start. .
I was driving on the interstate and the car jumped up ito 6 and 7 rpms in the red got stuck even when pedal was not pressed stayed there I the red for a few seconds with no warning lights finally dropped and started knocking.
The contact owns a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. While driving various speeds, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The failure occurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 138,000.
I noticed an issue but thought it was all in my head because I had been pulled over for speeding on the way home from work because the car accelerated by without my foot on the pedal. . . Although I was pulled over already to investigate why the car accelerated yet I still received a ticket . Wasn't too sure what happened on 11/4 at about 3:10pm I was involved in a motor vehicle accident turning the corner , the pedal stuck or wouldn't stop not too sure but I lost all control of vehicle trying to avoid a car on the right I swerved and hit the car on the left thus destroying my car and the other car in the process.
After buying my 2003 Alero, I noticed a lag in the ignition system. I took it into the dealership under warranty and had them keep it for 3 days. No problem found, they could not duplicate it. So I lived with this problem. But now my car is randomly accelerating while I am driving it down the road or sitting in park. If you put the car in neutral the rpms jump up to almost red lining. In park the rpms go up to 3. 5-4. 5 rpm, and in drive it idles at around 50 mphs. Without even hitting the accelerator my car drives at 50 mph! after months of this occurring I found out that my specific car's VIN was recalled for this exact reason. I contact the dealership, they tell me to bring it in. After 1 1/2 hours of waiting they tell me that gm refuses to pay for the recall fix. I have spent countless hours on the phone and no one will help me. I am reading and this is happening to tons of people. How can they legally get away with this??? I need help. I am a single mother who drives her 6 yr old daughter around in this death trap.
I have been having problems with the engine idling high while driving, making it possible to slow down, brakes were not working, causing me to pull over to the emergency lane, putting the car in neutral, shutting my engine off, in order to get car to stop. My car has been in the dealer shop where I bought it, since July 21, 2005, they said they can't find anything wrong with it, car is still under warranty, but due to not finding anything wrong with the car, they are charging me for towing fee and for doing a preferment check on the engine, out of pocket is over $100. 00 to say, we can't find anything wrong. This wasn't the first time, on June 13, 2005 the same thing happen, putting it in the grange for 4 days only to say they couldn't find a thing wrong with it, I feel there is defect in the computer or idle control, as I feel this vehicle is very unsafe while driving it, not only for myself but for anyone else to be around when this occurs again.

The contact states that vehicle accelerates by itself even when press the brakes. Vehicle will not stop, it still accelerates. The gm repair shop told her three times they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle, they have the vehicle now.
The consumer had the vehicle in the park position and vehicle jumped into reverse. This caused the vehicle to spin around in a 360 motion. The passenger jumped out of the vehicle while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle came to a dead stop when it hit a ditch head on.

Regarding 2000 Oldsmobile Alero - intermittent failure/ malfunction of anti-lock brakes and traction control while braking to a stop. Upon starting the vehicle, the anti-lock brake system would appear to work fine. The traction control system, indicated by the "low trac" light may or may not be lit, indicating a problem. Shortly after driving the vehicle and while braking to a stop, the traction control system seems to sense a slippery road and activates the anti-lock brakes, causing the brakes to disengage and then slowly re-engage, as if stopping on slippery pavement. However, this has been happening on dry, normal pavement at normal speed and stops. Having the brakes disengage while braking to a stop increases the needed stopping distance and requires the driver to either turn to avoid a collision or use the emergency break to stop. Note that the the red brake failure light is not on during this condition. After stopping, the amber "anti-lock", "trac off", and "service vehicle soon" lights are lit and the vehicle appears to deactivate the anti-lock and traction control system for the rest of the trip. The brakes then work fine, with these systems deactivated.

Problems with high engine idles and shifting through all the gears. This would occasionally occur when the vehicle was started from a cold engine. The transmission was shifted into drive and without the consumers foot on the gas pedal, the vehicle shifted through all the gears. The engine displayed a loud rumble sound. When the consumers foot was taken off of the accelerator it shifted forward. A connector was replaced which appeared to be the problem. The symptoms later appeared. A broken wire was replaced in the harness connector.
Vehicle accelerates on its own, will not respond to braking. It will accelerate for 5-7 miles before it slows down. This has happened 5 times, dealer could not find cause. Vehicle at dealership at this time.
I hve had this car for a year now and they have did over 7,000 dollars repairs on it so far they need to recall this Alero. No safety defect listed.
When tapping the brakes to turn speed control off, the car accelerates. Consumer contacted dealer.
When driving at any speed and applying brakes vehicle is jerking and lurching forward. Also, when taking key out of ignition all other electrical items keep coming on, and brake rotors continue to wear out. Dealer can't determine the cause of problems.
The vehicle also makes noise and jumping forward by itself.
The vehicle also makes noise and jumping forward by itself.
When going up the slightest incline at 70 mph rpms revved, and engine started missing, felt like it was going to stall.
