I own a 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The power steering and transmission was defective. On March 15, 2004, I paid for the replacement of the rack & pinion gear spoke valve for a cost of $758. 69. On March 15, 2004, I paid for the replacement of valves pressure control solenoid and clearing the adapt cells for a cost of $758. 55. On March 15, 2004, I also paid for the replacement of an inoperable crank sensor for the cost of $292. 60.

Nhtsa recall 03v527000 concernin steering gear bearings. Vehicle was taken to the dealer on 3/10/2004 to receive the free remedy for the recall. Dealer installed the new lower pinion bearing, but did not replace the gear assembly, and the steering wheel will not turn to the left. Dealer require dthe consumer to pay for replace ment of gear assembly.

The dealership refused to honor recall 03v527000 regarding rack and pinion because the rack an pinion leak was not due to the bearings.

Althounh gm has issued a recall on a steering rack and pinion for the year, make, and model of my vehicle, my vehicle is not covered because even though it is having the recorded symptoms of the problem reported, it was not manufactured at a plant that supposedly recieved the faulty parts. To "fix" the problem my vehicle has had the intermediate shaft replaced twice (by the original dealer) since I purchaed the vehicle. This has not eliminated the problem.

Power steering hard to turn left, especially at slow speeds. Steering gets tight and releases. General motors should not have been allow to sell this type of dangerous product to the public. These incidents are still going on problem. The latest being yesterday, I suddenly lost my power steering while driving.

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue that has developed a problem with the steering. It is very hard to turn to the left especially at low speeds. Gm announced a recall today of certain 1998 Intrigues built between 11/96 and 10/97. Mine was built 8/98 I believe. However, the symptoms are exactly as described in recall 03v527000. Steering to the left extremely hard when the car is cold. Once it warms up it improves. It happens every time I go to drive the car, unless I let it warm up for 10 minutes.

When turning the vehicle it made a loud crunching sound when the weather turned cold. Consumer took vehicle to a mechanic, where it was determined that the rack and pinion steering assembly needed to be replaced.

My 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue has always knocked sometimes when I turn steering wheel. I was told by an Oldsmobile dealership that was normal. At 57,000 miles I noticed it became very hard to turn left. It just became worse. Right hand turns were easy but left turns took lots of muscle and I could here a slight grinding. Had to fork out the $$$ because of course it is not under warranty anymore!.

While making a hard left turn driver would hear a loud clanking noise under the floorboard. Steering wheel would lock up. I currently own a 1998 model year olsdmobile Intrigue (VIN 1g3wh52k9wf356340) that continues to have a severe clunking and at times difficult steering usually at lower speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer shortly after purchase for the same complaint on 10/05/98 but the issue was never resolved and we were told this was normal. I have recently taken over driving the vehicle from my wife and after driving for a couple weeks it seems much worse and a possible safety concern. A friend of mine who is a trusted technician diagnosed the problem as most likely a failure in the rack-and-pinion steering. I will be taking the vehicle in either to Oldsmobile or third party to have repaired but wanted to log my complaint. Hopefully gm will understand this is oem defect and help repair my vehicle. I have found there have been multiple tsbs (010232001b, 051101 & 01232002) on this issue and there is currently an investigation to extend a recall for the possible same issue (NHTSA recall campaign number : 02v286000).

I recently read an associated press article in the paper about an investigation into a steering defect in the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue among other cars. I just had to have the steering rack replaced because of difficulty when steering left. This was the same problem listed in the article.

We have a 2000 olds Intrigue. While it was still under warrenty we had the steering intermediate shaft replace and the steering tie rod replaced. The steering has always seemed to be a problem. 2000+ miles after the warrenty went out the power steering rack went out which will cost approximately $1200. There was a pop noise when I was backing up and from that point there was no power steering for left turns but for only right turns. We had the car towed to the dealer and was told it was a good thing I had not driven because the entire steering was about to go out on it which would have most likely lead to a wreak. This is the same problem that was occuring on the recalled 98 model. The dealer service manager refuses to discuss and will not give us the name and number of his manager. Gm has said there was nothing they could do since it has only had problems with the steering.

Steering problem in 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue. Diagnosed independently by two non-Oldsmobile repair shops replacement of rack & pinion steering system, lower control arm & bushings need replacement. When entering left turns, it feels as though power steering has cut out, requiring much effort to continue turn. Current mileage approximately 57000. Car is currently in a local Oldsmobile repair facility/dealership being diagnosed. Oldsmobile customer service shows no current recall.

Became extremely difficult to make left turns, particularly at low speeds. Brought car to local garage, they thought there was a recall for this rack & pinion unit. Brought car to gm dealer (hove Buick) who confirmed this was the rack & pinion unit that was being recalled, but my VIN was not yet covered. Hod to have rack & pinion unit replaced (by local garage). Contacted gm/Oldsmobile customer service, they confirmed there was a recall but my VIN was not covered even though it is the same make, model and year as cars that are covered.

The rack and pinion steering has had to be replaced twice on this vehicle. Steering suddenly becomes very difficult to turn to the left (as if no power steering at all). If you are turning to the right you can easily turn the vehicle, however, left hand turns are impossible. The dealership making the repair agreed to pay 1/2 of the cost because they agreed the part was faulty and never should have happened the first time let alone twice. Gm, however, refused to pay for either of the repairs and would not stand behind theirs .

I have a serious problem when I turn left! sometimes it will and most of the time I have to break a sweat. I had the power steering pump replaced and the problem still is there. I have found several different complaints and recalls of gm vehicles that have rack and pinion deficiencies. To get my rack and pinion replace it will cost me $600 for the part and ten hours of labor. Due to the fact that they have to remove the engine just to get to it. Now, I m a sergeant in the us army and I am stationed in germany. The closest thing I have to gm is an opel dealer. I spoke to Oldsmobile and they say that they do not have any recalls or complaints about the rack and pinion on file. This is bs. Look at the NHTSA web site and you will find hundreds of them. Or just search for olds Intrigue steering problems. I take care of my car and I keep up the services. I even had it sponsored by audiobahn doing car shows. I just want the right answers. Is this my problem or is it the manufactures?.

While initiating a left turn in my 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue the steering suddenly locked making it almost impossible to turn the wheel. With only 52,000 miles of mostly highway driving I logged onto the NHTSA web site to see if this is a common complaint among Intrigue owners. It appears it is. In calling to solicit reduced prices for this $1200+ bill a number of dealers admitted that this was not an uncommon problem with Intrigues and that it most often affected left turns. A safe steering mechanism is not something that should wear out with only 52,000 miles and the sudden nature of the failure, also a common complaint in your web site, is very concerning.

Multiple complaints to Oldsmobile customer service and each time they do not take responsibility for the problem. There was a recent recall on the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, but when I called Oldsmobile they said that my car was not part of the recall.
