Main crankshaft seal failing about every 60,000 miles. Loss off motor oil, can be an enviromental problem and cause engine failer. Was fixed when under warranty. It was in the shop 4 times before it was fixed. Has happend again at 176,978 miles.

2 Engine Failure problem of the 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 06/27/2001

The camshaft suffered a spun bearing which resulted in no lubrication being pumped to the rear head. This lack of lubrication resulted in a rear tower failure and the wearing of a hole in the rocker arm. Even at 95000 miles, this seems to be low for the new engines of today and I feel this is premature engine failure caused either by a poor design or a manufacturer's assembly related problem. Because it is out of the warranty period, the dcx customer support is totally non responsive and unhelpful. The NHTSA should look into why there is no recourse for the consumer to address these types of problems with the oems. In fact, the consumer is left without any recourse what so ever. A failure at this mileage which is costing me $4800 because of an initial misdiagnosis by a Dodge dealer in colorado springs is totally unacceptable.
