2000 Grand Voyager. Strut tower rust problem. This is a known and common issue and Chrysler will not fix this defect through a recall, which they absolutely should!.

Front strut pushing through body of van. We've spoken to a few mechanics/dealers who have been seeing alot of the same thing with this make/model van. No incident has occurred yet but the potential is there. We would like to bring attention to this so NHTSA can communicate with the dealerships and resolve. Maybe a recall should be considered? this is potentially very dangerous if owners are not aware of the situation. It also is a costly repair for an issue that seems to be very common in this specific vehicle 2000 Plymouth Grand Voyager. Please help us resolve.
The strut towers are corroding on 1996-2000 town & country/voyager/caravan Mini vans. Chrysler has admitted this in TSB # 23-044-02. I think the problem is more widespread. Anyway, my understanding is that, if the strut tower fails during operation, the result can be devastating. There are many young children riding in these vehicles, soccer moms etc. I find it incredible that there is not more visible information on this. I am the original owner of my 1997, and at the same phone and address as when I bought it. I have not been notified. I accidentally ran into this while researching for new struts for the vehicle. I looked at my vehicle and sure enough, one of the strut towers is failing. I called the dealer, the remedy is $500 per strut tower. If this isn't a classic design flaw (that is potentially lethal), I'm not sure I could find a better example. Two things need to be done. (1) information needs to get out, it's not happening. (2) Chrysler needs to absorb or at least share in the cost of the repairs. I believe if #(1) above were happening adequately, # (2) would have already happened. We need to set aside that the automakers are in trouble, and stop favoring them at the expense of children's lives.

I own two Chrysler minivan that have rusted strut towers, and I took them to my favorite body shop. I have been told that almost every Chrysler Mini van has had this, and to go to the dealer due to a recall. There is no such recall, and was told by the dealer it has been a issue.

Dodge caravan strut tower rust perforation - significant rust perforation on the right and left hand strut towers severely weakens the structural integrity of these main load path members. Failure of the strut towers would lead to uncontrolled displacement of the upper end of the strut resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. Since the possibility of failure exists at any time while driving the vehicle, should it occur at highway speeds, serious bodily injury and death are likely.

the strut towers have been rusting for several years and are now near the point of failure. There is no other significant rust on the vehicle.

(1) improper routing of rain/snow water results in premature and unsafe rusting of strut tower. (2) rusting of strut tower leads to strut failing through the rusted metal of the strut tower which result in loss of vehicle control. (3) upon next strut change, body shop metal repair will be necessary.
Strut tower corrosion - 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. Strut tower was rusted through with 103,000 miles on odometer. Asked dealership to repair - they wouldn't touch it. Received similar answers from other dealers in area. Only green Chrysler-Plymouth, east moline illinois would attempt the repair. Cost was $900. 00+ lack of inspection and support on this issue from dealership network is appalling. There is an inspection port on the strut tower - so the engineers knew there could be the potential for a problem when it was built. Yet the dealerships do not inspect. A tower doesn't instantaneously corrode between 99k and 103k. There was a problem prior to the 100k barrier and no one picked up on it. But the interesting thing is that there are so many folks that have the same issue. There were two other cars into the same body shop along with my vehicle with the same failure! please check public forums on the web using google or another search engine. You will find that the problem is prevalent and yet. . . Nothing is being done to alert the public as to problems. Can you imagine what would happen if that strut tower would fail while the vehicle is at speed? how many must die before there is any action taken?.
Strut towers corrosion this is a structural part as identified by I-car.
Potential structural failure due to severe corrosion on strut towers - especially driver's side. We cut out and replaced the strut tower before it failed completely. Passenger side strut tower will need to be replaced soon. Chrysler notified, but will not help with the problem.
Sub frame of van has cracked causing severe vibration. All motor mounts failed. My 1990 had similar problem. Van is barley drivable and unsaleable. Throw in two complete ac systems, two multi-function switches(looks like #3 is linings up), a clockspring(recall) and top it off with horrible service. Loyalty should be a twp way street!! ts.
