Ignition Module problems of the 1996 Plymouth Voyager

Seven problems related to ignition module have been reported for the 1996 Plymouth Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2004

Engine failure occurs after driving for 25 to 90 minutes. Failure would occur ramdomly regardless of season, weather, or temperature. First indication of failure would be a loss of power and reduction in speed. The engine would not respond to increases of throttle position. The rate of loss of speed would increase till the vehicle was hardly moving. There would be bucking and backfiring through the intake. The check engine soon dashboard warning light turns on. Engine stalls and will not restart. Has happened in 2003 4 times and on 1/16/04, 1/23/04 and 1/30/04 the last after replacing ecm (computer).

2 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

Electronic contol unit is bad. This controlls the wipers as well as many other things. Only the windshield wipers do not at this time. I thought we would crash into some when we were on the highway and a big rainstorm hit. We could'nt see anything, it was very scarry. Dealer estimates $579. 00 for repair/replacement. Chrysler said "too bad" "not our problem". Also, the parking brake does not hold. I had that checked @ the dealer, who said it could not be adjusted any further w/o risk of the brakes locking up. They also mentioned, the cable was fine, it was not stretched and did not need to be replaced. When we use the ac system, it gives off a bad smell. I think there is some filter in the system somewhere, but they state at the dealership, it does not affect the interior smell of the vehicle when replaced. In otherwords, it will not make the smell go away. The lugage rack does not stay locked in place when adjusted. The locks will not work to hold the adjustable bars in place. The cruise control accelerates far too quickly from the steering column buttons. It also does not dissengage when I try to use the buttons. Thank you for your time and patience! :o).

3 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2000

While going around a curve at about 10 mph vehicle lost all power and cut off without any warning. Consumer had vehicle towed to a mechanic, and mechanic replaced ecm system.

4 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 12/26/1996

Electrical short, under the hood engine compartment fire, in for repair at dealership, while vehicle was being tested for stalling failure, ignition module replaced, afterwards vehicle caught on fire.

5 Ignition Module problem

While driving 60-70 mph vehicle will shut down for no reason. Engine check light comes on. Also computer and ignition coil have been changed. Problem remains.

6 Ignition Module problem

The vehicle stalls when a/c is turned on due to faulty power control module. Yh.

7 Ignition Module problem

While driving at any speed, the engine shuts down, causing the vehicle to stall. Cause unknown. Replaced computer.
