I have a 2012 Porsche Cayenne s hybrid. It is suffering from the defect described in this recall campaign: 17v36800. The bolts that hold the camshaft in place have sheared off. Porsche is refusing any type of consideration because the VIN is not in the recall list, but it is in the year of the recall and suffers from the issue. I was driving the vehicle on the highway and the check engine light came on. The vehicle lost power and the engine started knocking. I was able to coast to the shoulder. I had to call my wife and have it towed. The dealer told me it would cost 14k+ to repair and they would need the vehicle for a month.

I noticed a recall on your site for my VIN # but I have not been reached by Porsche to fix. I'm unsure if this has been the culprit of my check engine light and airbag light being illuminated on my dash.

Major engine failure -related to defect identified in voluntary workshop campaign wc-22-in the aluminum camshaft adjuster bolts which have a tendency to sheer off, which prevent the camshafts from running. If this occurs in the camshaft that operates the vacuum pump, the power braking will also fail, which will result in an extremely dangerous situation especially if the driver does not have the strength to brake the car without the vacuum powdered brakes. The bolts themselves may also drop into the engine and cause the engine to fail. In my case vehicle had dealer routine service check 3-4 days earlier- everything "perfect". On day of failure stopped for gas and after restart heard a new "ticking" and check engine light came on. I called dealer who instructed me to come over. I drove about 3-4 miles to dealer new psm failure and another I did not get when car lost power and seemed to brake poorly. . Rolled into dealer and still there- engine pulled --may be complete loss. Dealer acknowledged today this is the same issue as wc-22.

I parked the car in the garage after running errands. When I returned to the garage the next morning there was a large puddle of fluid surrounding the car below. The check engine light stated that I needed to check coolant level. I immediately called the Porsche of plano and was told by the service writer that the coolant pipes are a commonly known, well documented point of failure. He suggested I run a search on google. I was shocked to see the number of complaints and just how many people have experienced the same issue. The problem is that Porsche used plastic materials in the design of the coolant pipes which are located at the top of the engine. The plastic becomes brittle over time due to the heat from the engine. When it becomes brittle enough it causes the engine to loose all fluid immediately. This has happened in cars while at highway speeds and others that are parked. Porsche does not supply the same parts to repair a failure. Porsche instead sells a kit made of aluminum piping that is designed not to withstand the heat of the engine the way it should have originally been manufactured. The cost for the kit and labor ranges between $2,000 - $3,000. The issue is now part of a class action lawsuit due to the number of owners who have had the same issue.
The contact owns a 2005 Porsche Cayenne. The contact stated that the engine light was illuminated then the vehicle started to lunge forward when the contact tried to accelerate, and it became difficult to shift gears. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised him that there was a misfire on the engine and one of its components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they are currently waiting for a response. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000. Updated 05/04/11 updated 05/11/11.
