Porsche Cayenne owners have reported 3 problems related to engine exhaust system (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Porsche Cayenne based on all problems reported for the Cayenne.
On the backside of this v8 engine there is a coolant distribution tube that has coolant barb pressed into the cast aluminum distribution tube with adhesive. While driving from wor to home, the adhesive failed 19mar20 causing the barb to slip out of the tube allowing large amounts of coolant to gush over the hot exhaust and out from under the Cayenne. The engine control unit recognized low coolant level the dash panel flagged "low coolant" and the vehicle was pulled over before overheating the engine. Fortunately due to the teleworking status of where I work there was no traffic behind me and thankfully no motorcyclist. I would expect more a $71,145 vehicle from Porsche even after 12 years and 140k mi.

The Porsche Cayenne diesel is designed to not restart when the adblue exhaust chemical is too low. This seems reasonable. However, the vehicle is also designed to not restart when the adblue reaches a low point, even when it is refilled to full capacity. According to Porsche the vehicle must be brought to an certified Porsche dealership for this to be reset, so the car can be driven. Again, this occurs even when the adblue if refilled to full capacity. This seems to be a potentially dangerous and/or expensive situation should the adblue reach this low point and the vehicle is a significant distance from a certified Porsche dealership.

Vehicle runs inefficiently when cold and smoke has been noted from the exhaust pipe when vehicle is driven. It will turn over, but not catch. Dealership was told by Porsche to use a lower octane fuel (87) to remedy the problem. This contradicts the information in the owner's manual which states only premium unleaded fuel 91 or higher should be used. If the vehicle is taken into a lower altitude area, the fuel should revert to premium. This is a brand new car and it does not start when the engine is turned over, leading me to believe there is a manufacturing defect in the design of the engine. My husband owns a 2004 Cayenne s, which has a 4. 5 v-8 instead of the 3. 2 liter v-6 and it starts immediately, even when cold.
