Failure Date: 04/25/2017

Takata recall: why does the airbag recall not include the passenger side airbag for my car? the driver side airbag was replaced yesterday in my car pursuant to the recall, but not the passenger side airbag. Doesn't the passenger side airbag present a danger to the passenger if it spontaneously deploys?.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

Takata recall. I have a 2007 SAAB 9-3 with a recall for the driver side airbag. I called gm SAAB and the dealer and they keep telling me there is nothing they can do at this time to resolve the issue. This is for the driver side so every time I am driving I could potentially have the airbag kill me. In some cars it is for the passenger side and you could just have the passenger sit in the back but mine is for the driver side. Please give me some help in this situation because they won't repair it and they won't take the car if I trade it in for a new car. All I have is a dangerous airbag on the driver side every time I drive.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2000 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I was returning from three days of air travel and reached my car which was parked in a secure corporate airport parking lot with no other cars around it. I placed my luggage in the trunk, entered the car and put on my seat belt. I started the car; it started normally with no warnings or anything abnormal. I placed the car in reverse, rolled approximately three feet, and the seat-back side airbag deployed explosively. It shattered the driver's side window, struck me very hard on the left shoulder and upper arm, and shoved me violently toward the center of the car. I immediately stopped the car and tried to recover my senses. I thought initially that I had been shot or shot at with a gun. The explosion was very loud, and left ringing in my left ear. I shut the car off, got out and checked the damage both to my car and myself. My upper arm was severely bruised; initially that was the only pain that I felt. There was glass everywhere, both inside and outside of the car. I notified the local security both to record the event and hopefully clean up the glass. I took several pictures with my phone, then drove home afterward without incident. The next morning I had neck, back, and shoulder pain. I notified and filed a claim with my insurance agency, called my dealership, as well as updating my family of the occurrence and went to the doctor¿s office for check-out. Had this event occurred while driving, and especially in traffic at highway speeds, I am confident this event would have caused a serious accident. It would have been very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle given the violence of the deployment. I am very thankful that this event occurred in a parking lot and not in traffic, and that I was not seriously injured. This was a completely uncommanded airbag deployment, and I would like to prevent a serious accident from occurring if this happens to someone else.

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

21 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 12/20/2008

My wife and I were involved in a motor vehicle accident in our 2007 SAAB 9-3 2. 0 t convertible. We were heading eastbound on sr610 in stafford, va and the other vehicle was heading westbound. The other driver made an illegal left turn in front of us failing to yield the right of way and we struck his car in the ride side (t-bone). His car was totaled and we had significant front end damage and our airbags did not deploy. Both my wife and I are still recovering from our injuries and under current medical care. I contacted my SAAB dealership and they suggested I contact gm/SAAB to investigate the accident to determine if the airbags should have deployed. Gm/SAAB sent an inspector and I was told I would be provided a report regarding their findings. The inspector completed the investigation and I was contacted by gm/SAAB. I was provided contradictory information by the gm/SAAB representative and their supervisor. When I requested a copy of the reports and photographs on three occasions, I was denied. They stated the car was safe to drive and it responded in the accident the way and manner in which it was designed and manufactured. I stated to them if that is in fact true, gm/SAAB should have no problem providing me a copy of the reports, photographs, and a letter attesting to the fact if was safe drive; however, they repeatedly denied my request. In the next week, I will be getting back my damaged, but repaired SAAB and have no idea if it is safe to drive let a lone sell if I choose not to keep it. I am very concerned over gm/saabs lack of cooperation and failure to provide necessary information as to the roadworthiness of my vehicle. Their failure to cooperate on this endeavor leads me to believe they care covering something up and are concerned of potential litigation. My position is that I want to ensure the car is safe to drive and if not, was there a failure on gm/saabs part and what are they willing to do to correct the matter at hand.

22 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1999 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

While my wife was driving to work, the passenger side airbag deployed. There was no collision and only the side airbag deployed, none of the others did. This could have caused an accident if it had been any of the other airbags, particularly those on the left. As it was, the noxious fumes and dust from the air bag caused some respiratory distress and reduced the visibility inside the vehicle.

23 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1999 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 04/27/2007

Driving on road and passenger's side air bag deployed on its own in afternoon of Friday, April 27th. No passenger was in the seat. SAAB was immediately contacted. Car was taken to SAAB dealer Monday morning. Car was left there all day and SAAB corp was to have the car inspected. Nothing was done and car was picked up on Monday evening. We are desperately trying to get SAAB to look at the car but they are being difficult to deal with. SAAB corp is not giving any indication as to what they are going to do to fix the problem and ensure it does not happen again. SAAB corp and SAAB dealer do not have a sense of urgency to get the car looked at. The fear now is that another one may go off unexpectedly. Drivers ear has not been normal since the incident.

24 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1999 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 12/06/2006

On the morning of December 6, 2006, my 1999 SAAB 9-3 was parked in the driveway of my house when I started the car to warm it up to take my five year old to school. My 5 year old sat in the front passenger seat as the car was warming up. Without notice or provocation the front passenger side airbag deployed in my 5 year olds face. This violent explosion caused a scratch and redness on my daughters face. Upon speaking with SAAB I was informed that they have never heard of this happening, and upon their instruction - I took the car the local SAAB dealer, who upon examining the car said that the reason for this happening is inconclusive. They also stated that they have never seen this happen before. SAAB is giving us the runaround, and we need someone to hold them accountable for this incident. I am hoping that filing this complaint will help.

27 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 09/24/2002

The driver side side-curtain air bag deployed without vehicle being in an accident. This caused injuries to the driver. Mr at the time of the incident, consumer experienced ringing in the ears and some apparent hearing loss which now has been determined to be permanent. Also, the lumbar in the driver seat seems to be too high.

28 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 08/13/2002

The drivers seat seems to be defective. It is cocked in a manner that forces the driver to sit at an angle to the steering wheel. The seat cushion is not aligned with the seat back and forces the driver to sit almost across the seat to be able to face straight forward. Also the lumbar support is uneven and only suports the left side. This further adds to the "twist" that the driver has to endure in order to safely operate the vehicle. The company tech rep told me the solution is to not use the lumbar function. Also the seat bottom seems to collapse on the left side when turning or cornering to the right. This has caused me to almost lose control many times on the highway and on off-ramps and when taking evasive actions. I have been forced to add my own padding to the left side of the seat cushion in order to be able to drive the car somewhat normally. I am now concerned that the side air bag will not function properly if I am in a collision. The company and the dealer seem umwilling to do anything about this. Additionally, this is creating back and hip problems for me. I believe this is an unsafe situation that will eventually cause an accident or in the least, contribute to additional injuries if I am in and accident. I chose this car for it's safety record which seems somewhat ironic.

29 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2000 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 08/19/2000

I've got a 2000 SAAB 9-3 and I was hit on the drivers side and the side impact air bag did not deploy. Instead my head got knocked against the side window, driving my glasses into my forehead. Now I've got a scar across my forehead that will require plastic surgery. Damage to the door was severe enough to warrant replacement--yet the airbag did not go off. I believe either the sensor was defective or there is a design flaw.
