The contact owns a 2008 SAAB 9-3. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v318000 (seat belts) and 16v063000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted; however, the dealer declined to service the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The driver's side, side air bag deployed spontaneously. There was no apparent reason or cause, ie no side impact of any kind, no door slamming or other provocation. The car was parked in a garage for six hours before I sat in the car, closed the door, then blam! temperature was moderate, where as the car is often parked on a city street in direct sun. Air bag deployment was a loud bang followed by smoke from an explosive, and a sting on my neck and shoulder where the bag hit me. Bits of foam from the seat interior, where the air bag was located, blew around the car interior. I suffered temporary hearing loss in my left ear due to the loud bang. I was also quite startled. No other people were at risk. No other air bags have deployed since I've owned the car, approx. 20 yrs. , purchased used. I will consult an authorized repair shop, insurance agent, and a dealer service center for more info. A SAAB dealer service center told me a new replacement air bag would be available from sweden at a cost of $700. That would be in addition to the cost of repairing the seat, door frame panel, and other items. There were no prior dash board or related fault code messages. The car has never been in an accident or impacted in any way to the best of my knowledge (I saw a carfax report at purchase).

Unexpected and unrequested deployment of driver side seat air bag. I was driving the vehicle at a speed of 0-5mph attempting to back the vehicle into a parking spot when the driver seat air bag deployed. A report was made with the local police department. No indicator or failure lights were present, the vehicle is able to be inspected at this time for further information. It is unknown about any other inspections by anyone other than the local police department.

Warning message that airbag is not working. Loud hissing sound immediately in front of dashboard, as if air is escaping. We cannot drive the car for fear of the airbag inflating. We are going to have to towed to a repair shop to be fixed and will keep all paperwork.

I left my home with my daughter in the afternoon to go to the bank and hardware store. I drove to the bank to make a deposit. We had to wait for quite awhile in the drive-through line at the bank, so I turned off my engine a couple of times rather than having the car idle. After making the deposit at the bank, I pulled out of the bank lot and began driving to the hardware store. I had driven for about two minutes and was driving along at approximately 25-30 miles an hour, and suddenly there was a terrible explosion at my left ear and massive pain in my left arm. I thought the car had been shot at and my arm hit. I was terrified we were still being shot at and looked at my daughter whose hands were over her ears. I could tell by that time that I was not bleeding and so was worried that the bullet had hit her. I could hear only faintly out of my left ear. There was smoke and the smell of an explosion. I could see by this time that an airbag had come out of my driver's seat and thought that it had been hit too. My daughter told me she was o. K. And to pull the car over so that we could see what had happened. I was shaking with fear and pain in my arm but finally calmed down enough to park the car and get out to see what had happened. It became clear that the car had not been shot at and that the driver's side seat airbag had simply spontaneously exploded without any warning whatsoever. The driver's seat side seam was completely ripped, multiple pieces of seat foam were lying about, and the air bag in the seat was out and ripped. The seat was still smoking. Luckily I had had my window completely down, or the explosion would have been louder in the car, and my arm and left side could have been more badly injured. I called my longtime SAAB repairman who told me that what happened to me was extremely rare. He said I would need a new seat and that the computer system would need to be reset for the airbag system to work again. Insurance will examine soon. I may try gm too.
Today, shortly after starting the car, an airbag deployed. The car was parked in my driveway and not in motion, and there was no impact. The airbag deployed from the outboard side of the passenger seat. I was seated in the driver's seat. The passenger seat was unoccupied and its seat belt was unfastened, however a laptop and some other lightweight objects were in the passenger seat.

I called elkins Chevrolet in marlton NJ as listed on my recall form. I called them two times. The first time they told me the part is not available. I then received a few more recall notices still listing them as the service center. I called again an was then told the only work of chevrolets. Both turned out to be bold faced lies!.

Takata recall - I contacted alberic colon auto sales at 787 793 2222 in puerto rico as mentioned in the letter sent to me and I was told that they can not performed the recall in my car because they wont get paid since they dont worked in SAAB.
Takata recall contacted three Cadillac dealers before finding one that would handle the recall. Contacted bush auto place in wilmington, OH and was told we do not work on Saabs and they would not do the recall. Very rude and short. Also contacted gusweiller Cadillac in washington court house, OH and told the same, but they were very cordial about it. Finally, I contacted camargo Cadillac in cincinnati, OH and they were over the top nice and on top of things. They were more than happy to assist with the recall and it has now been completed.
Takata recall, after getting a notice I looked online called every single dealer in my area they all said they don't work on Saabi hope everything is gm finally I found one most of them said sub went bankrupt so in a few years the car should be fixed faded out and you should get rid of it they said no one will fix it because there's no older this is the of the dealerships within 100 mile radius dealership GMC's somehow I got connected to a repair shop that specializes in sob and they said they said they could do it there about one month out and I would have to come to them which was 400 miles away I told him it was a hardship also and if they could arrange to pick it up or we could arrange another shop to fix it for the dealer they said nope with only ones in northern California appointment later I got a notice from GMC it was and ambiguous it stated your seatbelt and airbag might not be recall however you might want to check this website which was in small print I took it as a discouraging memo when I checked it out they said if you don't have any dealers in yourn your area no I cannot drive it because of safety concerns nor can I sell it because of african more of the concerns I had showing a lawn service recalled I believe GMC is required and responsible in this case to buy back your vehicle for me or offer me a replacement in this case they are avoiding there's possibility and no matter if the company would bankrupt they are the ones that assumed I have been driving with this issue and I have kids and it is unsafe I need to help they need to be in burst me for the whole cost of the vehicle for.
Takata recall - received a letter stating that I could go online for a $25 mastercard reward card after I completed repairs on the SAAB. I completed the repairs. Tried to access the website but it was not a working website. Unable to apply for the reward card.
Takata recall the website for reporting your repair and receiving your $25 mastercard is nonexistent.
I have tried to have the gm airbag recall for my 2006 SAAB 9-3 serviced by all paso robles and san luis obispo Chevrolet, gm, and Cadillac dealers. All have refused to do the work because the claim not to have a SAAB certified mechanic. The closest dealer with SAAB certified mechanic is bunnin Cadillac in santa barbara, a 240 mile round trim from our house. Despite three phone calls to bunnin we have still been unable to schedule an appointment for the repair or even confirm that they are willing and able to do the work. The challenge and burden of getting this recall work performed has proven impossible so far. When will gm take responsibility and made the recall fix to my SAAB reasonably available?.
Airbag recall there was only one store listed on your website for the recall, I called them and they told me that they do not do SAAB cars.
I got my airbags repaired and received a letter saying I would receive a $25 mastercard for getting the repair done. I tried to go to the website and it is not a functioning website. After taking hours to get the repair done, now this. . Read more...

I have called viking SAAB and registered on their web site months ago to have my airbag replaced as they are the only authorized SAAB place in houston, texas, to replace it. They have not contacted me. I don't know what else to do. When I called there they told me to register on their web site. I did that and nothing has happened.
Takata recall. I was notified by letter in March of 2016 that my SAAB was part of the takata airbag recall and that I would be notified when and where to take my car for air bag replacement. I was also notified in that letter that parts were not currently available and I would be notified when they were available and what service center I would need to take the cart to for repairs. Sometime in April 2017, I was notified that dorito bros SAAB, in walnut creek, California would be doing the air bag replacement and I would likely be contacted within the next month about scheduling the repairs. I did not hear back and I tried to contact dorito bros. SAAB and it appears they are no longer in business. I tried calling the "toll-free vehicle safety hotline, (1. 888. 327. 4236 or 1. 800. 424. 9153) and have got nothing but a busy signal. What should I do about getting the airbag replaced in my 2006 SAAB 93? the car is our main source of transportation.

There are multiple issues, as follows, but our concern is that our son has tried repeatedly to get support by calling the numbers on the post cards. We have been unable to get any service as a result of the calls and conversations. He lives on the island of kauai, west of oahu. #1: we must ship the car at our expense if we expect it to get serviced. Gm and SAAB will not pay for that shipping over or back. They will not pay for a rental car, and regardless of the recall mandate, they still send out bogus information. (example: bay area SAAB is no longer a SAAB dealer in san francisco but if they were our son would have to pay the transportation over and back to the mainland. ) #2: I have also called, and finally got good advice from the gm 800 number representative on the phone who referred me to a point of contact on oahu. There currently is no SAAB dealership in hawaii, but we have used the former SAAB dealership (a former owner, has maintained the phone number: 808-735-2488) for parts in past years. Fortunately for SAAB owners, this individual has done all within her power to help oahu owners get the recall but it has been a nightmare for her as well to make all the necessary arrangements. She is a poster adult for responsibility in small business. She and I have exchanged phone calls and e-mails, and I understand that she too is trying to get gm/SAAB to either pay for off-oahu SAAB owners to ship their cars over and back to the service provider has arranged for on oahu, or to pay to have qualified techs travel to out islands to service the cars. So far no action tbmk. And she is awaiting months for payment for the parts and service provided to oahu owners already. We are requesting a congressional inquiry via congresswoman tulsi gabbard at the same time as this request to inform nthsb that from our perspective, the recall is failing.
