Years ago, I received a notice that my transmission might be faulty and took it in to be repaired. Last week, while backing out of a parking space, I put the car into drive and the car continued to go backward. The gear shift (automatic) would not respond at all. I had to back the car into another space and turn off the engine while still in reverse. A tow truck operator said that the gear shift cable came loose. The repair, if done at all, did not last.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2017

There was a recall on the gear shift box. It was supposedly fixed and corrected in Dec 2015 by capital Cadillac. This past Friday 28 Apr 2017, I was backing in, I put the car in park. The car was still moving so, I put the foot brake on. Later, I started the car, it would not turn but the radio was on. I thought I needed a jump and that wasn't the case, next I had the car towed to capitol Cadillac where I had the the recall done. Paul from capitol Cadillac confirmed it was the gear shift box (cable). The same item that was recalled malfunctioned, again. The dealer wouldn't replace this item because it was 1year and 4 months over the warranty and the special coverage warranty expired in 2016. I've now incurred an out-of-pocket expense due to a recall order that was haphazardly fixed properly 1 year and 4 months later.

18 Power Train problem

Transmission started to shift roughly. Shift from 6th to 5th, or 5th to 4th gear when going up an incline extremely jerky. Car dropped to 2nd or 3rd gear, engine raced to high rpms as speed declined from 60mph. No reverse gear after coming to a stop. Barely made if off the highway while navigating thru densely packed four lane highway speed traffic. Transmission shop estimates exceed $4k.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2016

On December 30, 2016, I started the vehicle and drove a half mile @ 25 mph to a stop sign, I pulled onto ritchie highway when the vehicle wouldn't shift out of second, the engine went to 4,000 rpm, and would not go over 35 mph. I pulled off onto the shoulder, and turned the engine off. After waited 15 minutes. I started the engine and the check engine lite was on. I than waited till I had no traffic, and returned home (1 miles away). The vehicle was sifting fine, but the check engine lite stayed on on Dec. 31, 2016, I drove the vehicle to the gm dealership and the vehicle still had the check engine light on, but now when shifting, it would shudder, would not down shift, and was also shuddering in reverse when I was parking the vehicle at the dealership. . . I'm told on Jan. 3, 2017, that it needs a control value, not covered by the recall # 14404, and that I would have to pay $2,150. The control value is contaminated by debris from the failed 3rd, 5th, and rev. Clutch plate / gears. Why is this not included in the recall? I've contacted gm (case # 8-2633465781) and they can't explain why. . Please help. Ralph.

There are 157,000 miles on this car and was extremely well cared for & have records to prove so. The timing chain broke causing the engine to blow. I loved that car . . . .

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

This car has been a bust since the warranty expired. The transmission went out a year ago and was of course a recall for many other Auras except our specific one. Had that replaced, now its the timing chain, which is also a common complaint of the Aura yet there is no recall. The car misfires, shakes violently when in idle and when driving. It has a very hard shift. Its very hard to accelerate and the rpms shoot up. It also stalls and it sometimes just shuts off. Every light in the vehicle is on, check engine, stabilty, etc. It another expensive repair thats worth more than half the car.

26 Power Train problem

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2015

I switched my gear form park to drive and my car started to roll backwards. I look down to make sure that I had it in drive and it was. I put it in park so I though and when I took my foot of the break my car continued to roll backwards. I then pushed down on the break and put in drive again and my car once again stared to roll backwards after taking my foot off the breaks.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

'07 Aura xr. Purchased mid-January. Check engine light has been on since I bought it, with no issues other than an exhaust leak at the flex pipe. Started noticing loss of power on acceleration, attributed it to dirty injectors/bad fuel. Put in injector cleaner and premium fuel, car would not start. Finally started and took off only to have same issue, but now worse. Car would almost stall when accelerating from dead stop, have to keep accelerator pinned to the floor when starting, rough idle when running. Next step, replaced spark plugs. Did not fix problem, but still needed replacing. Checked codes: p0016 and p0017 (crankshaft position vs. Intake camshaft position correlation bank 1 fault). Have not taken to dealer to have assessed, but from everything I have read this is a stretched timing chain. Recall #11340c with special coverage for every other gm vehicle with the same problem, but not this one. What a joke. Would rather take the $2k-4k required for the repair and spend it on a competitor vehicle.

Vehicle will not go in reverse. Have done some research and have seen that gm is aware of a shifter cable fraying, but no recalls have been sent out.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

There is a service bulletin for this and many other cars TSB number: pip-4327a that states gm is aware that there is a faulty wave plate in the transmission and that the plate will break at some point. When it does break it could cost the owner anywhere from $2500 to over $5,000 to get the transmission replaced/rebuilt. When the plate does break, the car is dangerous. . . The car slips into different gears and speeds which can be very dangerous. Please for gm to turn this into a recall and recall/replace these plates before someone is killed.
