On Sunday February 7 2021, I was driving in the grocery store parking lot at a slow rate of speed making a right turn when my 2008 Saturn Aura lost all power steering almost causing an accident. I had a difficulty getting the vehicle to straighten out to get into a parking space. I shutoff the engine and when I restarted my car and it was fine. On Tuesday February 23, 2021, I was backing out of my driveway and again I lost all steering power. I pulled back into my driveway, shut off the engine, started it and it was fine. As I was driving to work on the freeway, on March 4 2021, the vehicle again loss power steering. I am worried of another complete steering failure in a critical situation. This failure has happened intermittently several more times, and the vehicle is too unpredictable to drive. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). The fix gm released under the recall doesn't look to be a long term durable fix and is a safety concern.

The power steering in this vehicle randomly and without warning malfunctions. Initially, the problem occurred very sporadically, and only when the vehicle was first started up and still in park. Turning the vehicle off, and then back on remedied the issue. However, the vehicle will now lose power steering while driving, causing the vehicle to be very difficult to steer. So far, it has only happened at low speeds, typically when I begin driving after stopping at a stop sign, red light etc. When it occurs, it takes extreme effort to pull the car over to the shoulder. It's as if the steering wheel is locked. Once pulled over, restarting the vehicle resolves the issue, although sometimes it takes several restarts. This is a dangerous situation that now happens daily. I was told that my 2009 Saturn Aura was not a part of the 2014 recalls that addressed this issue. I did not own the vehicle in 2014, so I cannot verify if the previous owner received any recall notifications. Because this is a common complaint, I believe that a recall should be issued for all 2009 Saturn Auras.

With engine on, steering wheel slowly oscillates. When driving, steering wheel will 'kick' left or right suddenly, and I have to hold wheel tightly to keep car in straight line. Several times while turning, I lost power steering completely and I had to use force to maintain control.
On Sunday September 30 2018, I was driving in the church parking lot at a slow rate of speed making a left turn when my Saturn Aura lost all power steering almost causing an accident. I had a difficult time getting the car to straighten out to park. I turned if off and when I started my car and it was fine the rest of the day. On Monday October 1, 2018 I was backing out of my driveway to go to work and again I lost al steering power. I pulled back into my driveway, turned it off, started it and it was fine; however, I work 50 miles from home and did not want the chance it would do that during highway driving. Gm which made the Saturn as of sept 13, 2018 has a recall on a number of their vehicles with this very problem. Is it possible to be included in this recall as this car is made by GMC and it is the same problem? this could be very serious if I had been driving in traffic.

Keep losing eps - electric power steering, while driving vehicle. While driving the vehicle, will lose the power steering part, and have to man-handle the wheel to maneuver the vehicle. There was a recall on it, of which I did not know about, did not receive notification. Now that I take it in to be fixed, am told that there is a limit of 150,000 miles on this recall, I am at 195,000. If I had known about, and received official notification, would have taken it in earlier. The eps error can happen on vehicle start up, or while driving the car. . Read more...
Beginning around March 4 2015, car began to have issues with loss of power steering. Initially, it would sometimes have no power steering at start up. I would turn it off and then back on and eventually, this would result in power steering being restored. While driving, the steering wheel would pull independently. At stop lights, if I took my hands off the wheel, the steering wheel would twitch and shake and turn by itself. On sat. March 21, 2015 I lost power steering while driving. Took car to repair shop "performance automotive, (general's highway, crownsville, MD; severn johnson proprietor). Mechanic said that the sensors inside the steering column were not operating properly. He said either the steering column or just the sensors need to be replaced. Gm said this was not covered by any recall notice, although many other cars in the same class with the same problems were.
