Steering Noise Problems of Saturn Aura

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. While driving and making left or right turns, the contact heard a clunking noise coming from the steering column. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. On the ground I would see small aounts of oil. I took it to get an oil change and the mechanic saw and showed me where the oil was coming from. I was told that I have a valve leak from the engine and showed me. I only have 73,879 miles on the car and feel this should not be a problem. I only use the car to go about 8 hrs of driving a week. I would like to know if there has been a recall for the engine? I have a noise in the steering wheel that makes me feel very uncomfortable and I hear it every time I back the car up. I know there was a recall on that. Would some one please get back to me concerning this issue. I am asking because I know that I am still under the manufactory warranty. Thank you brenda davis.

The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While driving various speeds and turning the vehicle, the steering wheel made an abnormal noise and the steering wheel became very stiff. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing; however, the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving at low speeds, I discovered a slight noise coming from the steering column each time I turned the steering wheel. In addition to the noise, I felt a "popping" that appeared to be coming from the base of the steering column. Regardless of which way I turned the wheel, the sounds were the same, and continued to get louder the more I drove. I made an appointment with my local Chevrolet dealer, to investigate the issue. After the inspection, it was discovered that the steering column was faulty, and should be replaced. Repair cost of $950. With only 57,000 miles on the vehicle, it was way too soon to have experienced this type of issue. After some research, I discovered that there had been several steering problem complaints documented regarding the 2008 Saturn Aura.

The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 14e044000 (steering) the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the intermediate steering shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,549.

Took my Aura into Saturn on 12/21/09 for clicking noise, Saturn service repositioned intermediate steering shaft per technical bulletin. Now have the same prob going on again but I found another service bulletin 06-02-32-002d dated 06/17/2010 also another for front end clunk/rattle/knocks 06-02-32-007g dated 04/05/2010. I am currently out of warranty with the steering prob and noise from the front end. I have contacted Saturn customer service, they are not very helpful. All they want me to do is take it in to the dealership to have it diagnose then we will go from there. Today I found out the noise problem in the from end, it is the struts, both have to be replaced, big bucks.

After having the intermediate steering shaft replaced (23,330 miled), I took my vehicle in for steering vibration and noise when turning again at 25158 miles. The dealer orders parts, and the parts are replaced on 1/12/2010.

At 13,000 miles I took the car back to the dealership in binghampton on 8/14/07 where I purchased the car and explained to them that the car doesn't handle right, that it wanders all over the road and that the steering makes noise. It feels like something is loose in the front of the car. They said they test drove it and heard nothing. No action was taken. I called them back with a tire problem (the side wall had a huge bulge in it) I thought this was why the car didn't handle good. The binghampton store didn't have a tire. I took the car to Saturn of wyoming to have the defected tire replaced. I asked to check the steering. They found something wrong and replaced the steering knuckle joint. Then there was another problem with handling and a humming noise. They found and replaced the right front wheel bearing. Again the car handling got bad and it is currently in the shop being checked. I called Saturn and explained to them that the car car was unsafe to drive. It goes where ever it wants, you have to constantly steer the car to keep it straight. They didn't seem to care because I asked them to tow it and they told me it was my responsibility to do anything like that.
