I am the unfortunately owner of a government motors products that is subject to a recall. I have received now 10 notifications in almost 90 days demanding I have this recall performed immediately. In the course of nearly 90 days, I have contacted 5 different dealers and have been told the same thing; ?we will take your name and number and contact you when we can perform the recall?. While I understand with an inferior product, made worse by government intervention into a private business, requires recalls and due to the high volume of cars subject to the recall due to the government picking gm as a company to promote, part production may be limited, I do not understand why I get these letters. I would happily comply with the recall, as a matter of safety, but when the dealer refuses to provide the recall, I cannot comply. The last letter I received was a post card that implied serious consequences could result and even had a date ?as of may 24th this has not been performed. ? I am fully aware and I have not spent over 3 hours between calls and letters trying to comply with this pseudo-government demand. Please provide guidance on how to proceed. The last agent at gm I spoke with said that they would continue to mail letters as they are directed by the government to do so. So I ask you, the government agency partially responsible, please stop sending me letters to do what is not possible to do. I am aware of the recall. I have done what I have been instructed to do by each letter I have received and I have been assured my name and number is on a list to contact me when they can provide the recall. Unlike the average american I do have a little bit of common sense and take personal responsibility for my vehicles.
Per witnesses my daughter's Saturn Ion hit the rear of a semi truck that had stopped on northbound I-81 near mile marker 210. 5. The witnesses state that the air bags did not deploy. The car caught fire and was destroyed.

There has been at least 4 times that while my car was idling at either a red light, stop sign, or what have you, my car would just shut off after after making a rough idling noise. This scared the crap out of me the first time it happened. If I were to shut my car off & turn it back on, it would then go away. It made me weary of driving because you never knew when or where that could happen. The second incident would be my power stewing. My car would "ding" and the power steering light would come on making my wheel stiffen up immediately. Again, if I would turn the car off and then back on again, the problem would stop. . . For a little bit. Started off at once or twice a week, then once a day maybe, now I can't even go a block from my house without it coming on. Frustrating and dangerous to say the least.
The contact owns 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and there was a significant power loss. The contact sustained a bruised pancreas and severe back pain. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to salvage yard. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 85,173.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light would sporadically illuminate and the vehicle would intermittently stall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times where the sensor was reset but did not prevent the stalling failure. On once occasion while the driver was traveling approximately 30 mph around a curb, the vehicle lost power and accelerated while stalling. The driver was not able to intervene and crashed into a tree, splitting the tree upon impact. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. The driver sustained internal bruising from the impact. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 14v047000 (air bags and electrical system) but the part needed to complete the recall service was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
As I drove my car turned off not allowing me to use my brakes now the key gets stuck in the ignition evey now and then.
First issue started with the numbers of the clock/stereo flickering after a couple of hours of the car being off during the winter. Then during the summer there were a couple incidents when the windows would not roll down nor up until a couples minutes after the car being on. A couple months later I rolled the driver side window 5 inches down while driving and 15 minutes later the window went up about an inch and did not budge but would make a buzzing sound. After a day or two there was not a buzzing sound and all the other windows did not work. Took in my vehicle to be checked and was told that it is an electrical issue coming from the main computer (motherboard I assume). This happened in February of 2014 and have not gotten it fixed.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure was recurring. Additionally, the contact would have to move the key around in the ignition and apply extreme force to the brake pedal before being able to insert or remove the key from the ignition. The contact also stated that the power steering assist would sporadically fail. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer however, they were unable to diagnose the failure. The contact later received notification that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v047000 (air bags and electrical system) after the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
I was rear ended on the freeway on 11/17/13. I went to get it fixed about a week later. They had my car for about 3 days. When I went to pick up my car, there was no power steering. When the gentleman tried to put power steering fluid in it, he noticed it was electric. He said it must have gone out. Now I have to pay to fix my power steering and I didn't have my car when it went out!.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while traveling at various low speeds, the engine stalled with the illumination of the warning indicator. The vehicle engine and resumed normally. The failure recurred intermittently. There was a recall related to the failure under NHTSA campaign id number 14v047000 (air bags , electrical system); however , the part needed to perform the repair was currently unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
I bought my car used off of a used car lot, the power steering was recalled and it got fix, but now the electrical system is messed up. My car alarm will go off all hours of the night, the windows wont roll all the way up and the key gets stuck in the ignition and I can't turn my car off. My drum brakes on the back absolutely shattered on the inside of the drum.
Vehicle operator tried to turn off motor while in a paid parking lot. Key was stuck in ignition and car would not shut off. Dealer stations were closed at time of incident. Operator returned 30 miles home after various attempts to remove key and a family member disconnected the battery. Next day the battery was reconnected and operator went to dealership where ignition lock cylinder, housing and key were replaced for $461. 47 plus tax.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of all of the warning gauges. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder where it was restarted and functioned normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. The battery was replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
Driver attempted to shut off car when parking. Key would not turn and car remained running. Vehicle was then driven to local gm service dealer who confirmed that key was stuck. Service order cause was listed as "found ignition lock cylinder frozen". Dealer did manage to remove and replace ingnition lock cylinder. Customer paid for repair.
I was driving my 2006 Saturn Ion on a local street, picking up my child from school, when the ignition went off. The car had no power & I had only a few seconds to steer the car off to the side before the power steering stopped working. I put the car in neutral & coasted to a stop. I turned the car off, waited a minute, & then turned the key again. At that time, the car started up again & I took it directly home. In the days following this incident, several different times the ignition would go of by itself. It felt as if the key was not staying in the on position. Not being aware of a warranty from Saturn, I took it to a local repair shop. When the mechanic tried to take the key out of the ignition, it would not turn off or come out of the steering column. He was forced to disconnect the battery in order to turn the ignition off & needed to replace the part in the steering column where the key goes in. Because the mechanic had to disconnect the battery, I was also forced to take the car to the dealership a few days later to have my remote lock reprogrammed. I had to pay out of pocket for both of these repairs, because I was unaware that gm had a special warranty covering such issues. I never received a letter about this problem, but it is a recall issue in other states.
The ignition wouldnt turn off, the key came out, leaving the car running. I tried wiggling the key, checking the shifter, everything, this is the 2nd time this has happened. Ive seen an extreme amount of complaints about this, and feel something should be done, gm is loosing a lot of business due to not solving this issue.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the ignition failed and the key could not be turned or released from the ignition to shut off the engine. The battery and fuel sensor was disconnected in order to power the vehicle off. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. I was driving my Saturn Ion 2 under normal conditions 5/6/13. I parked the vehicle and attempted to turn it off but the key would not move. The ignition was locked. I could not turn off the Ion. I drove to a mechanic, who disconnected the battery. I paid $292. 68 for a new ignition lock and ignition cylinder. I see hundreds or thousands of similar complaints online yet at no point did gm notify me of the potential problem nor offer to fix it.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that he was unable to turn the ignition to the off position to remove the key. The vehicle remained powered on and the contact had to disconnect a wire under the steering column to turn off the vehicle. The check engine warning light would occasionally illuminate. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer however the cause of the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no further assistance. The failure and current mileage was 57,117.
I purchased my vehicle in Apr 2013 from a used dealer. Shortly after my purchase I began to experience an issue with my vehicle going into reduced power mode, thus degrading the power that the engine was able to put out affecting my ability to accelerate. After over a year of taking my vehicle to different shops to be repaired, it was determined that my vehicle has a technical service bulletin for the ecm. Gm released a series of ecm serial / part numbers that were know to be an issue, and that was also in the TSB. I am unclear on how gm is able to narrow this issue down to a specific series of serial / part numbers but they have not issued a recall or special consideration on this part. This defective part is most definitely a safety issue as I stated above it prevents the vehicle from accelerating in the manner that it should.
The key sticks in ignition and the car can't be turned off unless the battery is disconnected or the fuel pump is disconnected. This causes a safety hazard to the average user, like myself, who isn't aware what needs to be done poses the risk of being shocked or burned trying to turn off the car.
2006 Saturn Ion. Consumer writes in regards to ignition problems. The consumer is seeking reimbursement for the ignition replacement he paid for last year. On Friday April 19, 2013, the consumers wife and daughter parked the vehicle and tried to turn the vehicle off. But, the vehicle would not turn off. In fact, the key would not turn in any direction at all. In order to shut the vehicle off, the consumer pulled a fuse, the next day, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and once again, the vehicle could not be turned off. The dealer informed the consumer, they had to break the key off to remove the ignition cylinder and replaced it.
In the first week of March I called my dealership about the ignition recall and was told to wait until I got a recall notice. In mid-March I received a recall notice and was told that the parts were not in and to call at the end of March. I called at the end of March and was told that the parts were not in and I should call the beginging of April. I called the beginning of April and was told the parts were on order and I should call the next week. I called the next week and the parts were not in. Last week I received a notice that I had not responded to the recall notice and received another recall notice this week. When I called today I was told that they had no record of my prior calls and would have to order the parts. Gm is conducting a fraudulent recall and trying to shift the burden of liability to the consumer and shift the burden of proof for any liability to the consumer for not complying with the recall, when the recall is illusory. I want this noted on the record.
Put the key in and now it will not shut off. . . . Had to pull fuse. . . Key will not turn back and can not get it out.
I have had a slight problem with my Saturn Ion since I have purchased it from my dealership. The key will get stuck every other time I have tried to shut it off. It was a minor inconvenience at the most. But yesterday I had my key get stuck while the vehicle was running! I had to have the battery disconnected and pull a fuse just to get it to shut off. I looked online for hours and hours and found out it is most likely the ignition lock cylinder. There were so many complaints on the Saturn Ions doing this I was shocked that a recall has not been issued. I am frustrated at the dealership saying it will be $90 just to look at it, and then they will give me an estimate. Online I have seen that the average cost paid to have this fixed is $300-$500. Why should I have to spend more of my hard earned money if this is clearly the manufacturers fault? if nothing is done about this I will have lost all faith in people.
Power steering repeatedly shows up on the dash and the power steering does seem tight and its a loud clunk when you turn the wheel back and fourth slowly. Its common and there has been a recall in some states a lot of people got this paid for and its 1200 to fix.
On or about 9/12/2012, I was driving in my Saturn Ion going 45 miles an hour, in heavy morning traffic, when in an instant my car decelerated and was at a slow crawl. I could not get any acceleration even when pressing the gas. I was only a couple blocks away from work, so I coasted until I got there. I was almost hit. But I could not go any faster. I was afraid to turn off the car for fear that it would not start up again. I was afraid to drive it and I called to have it towed to the dealership to have it looked at. Henderson Chevrolet looked at it and said that it was the computer motherboard of the car. This was replaced at a cost to me of $800. 00+. It happened again on 11/20/12. The car went from 30 to 5 miles per hour in a split second! no warnings. I took it back to the dealership. They said that they had no idea what want going on with it nor why it was doing this. Their suggestion to me was to get another vehicle. What my Saturn did is the same thing described in the ignition recall. When this happened to me , there was no recall. No one thought of looking at the ignition. When I lost power, my thought was not gee, maybe my keys are too heavy & my car turned off! me see if my ignition turned off when I went over that bump. Had the recall ignition problem had been something that gm was aware of at the time and notice was received, the mechanic would have known that this was the problem. But I replaced the brain of my car at $800 when it was not needed. Not wanting it to happen again (say on the freeway), I traded in the car. I feel that I should be reimbursed for the costs I paid to repair my vehicle¿¦when it should have been taken care of by the recall. My experience happened before anyone knew about this kind of thing happening to these vehicles. The consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 07/28/14.
2006 Saturn Ion. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration recall notice and requests reimbursement for repairs. The consumer stated when she got in the left turn lane to make a turn, all of a sudden the vehicle took off without applying the gas. Her foot was on the brake and the engine began to race at a high speed. The incident occurred a second time, while at a 4-way stop sign, the engine began racing, with her foot on the brake. The vehicle cut off and the dashboard went black. The third time, it happened, she was pulling into a parking space, and the engine began to race at a high speed, she was unable to stop the vehicle, and eventually she crashed into a wall.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the vehicle has stalled on numerous occasions with the key lock warning light illuminated. The failure occurred three times over a period of three years. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
I was driving my car when my consul read the phrase "pwr str" meaning that my power steering was malfunctioning and no longer worked until I pulled over and restarted the car and that reset the power steering. This now happens about two to three times every time I drive my car.
Key locks up in ignition and will not turn to off position. Key is stuck and will not release from ignition. To get key out car must be turned to on position and back off again. Friends of ours also had a Saturn Ion from 2005 and they had the same issue. The key would become stuck in the ignition and they would have to start the car and turn it off (sometimes several times) to get the key out. Our worry is that the problem will become more extreme and dangerous where we cannot turn the car off (as I have read in other complaints) as well as not being able to eventually free the key. This is a defect that needs to be recalled and fixed!.
