Saturn 2006 Ion. Key sticks in the ignition. Have taken it in 4 times to be fixed. There are several people with this kind of care with this problem. The car running is a major safety hazard. Why has this not been recalled.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. While attempting to turn the vehicle off the contact noticed that the key would not turn and it could not be released from the ignition. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 41000.
On August 10, 2010, I was unable to remove my keys from the ignition of my 2006 Saturn Ion. The care would also not turn off. I took it to an authorized Saturn service provider and they were able to "fix" the problem by cleaning and repairing the key lock cylinder at a cost of over $180 to me. On August 18, 2010, I was unable to remove my keys from the ignition again, but this time I was able to turn the car off. I took it to the same service provider and they were not able to replicate the problem. I was told that there really wasn't anything they could do about the problem unless I wanted them to replace the key lock cylinder, which would cost another $160+. I opted to not spend the additional money since I had already spent money to "fix" the problem the week before. Instead I decided to call the Saturn customer care line provided by gm to file a complaint. They told me that there was nothing they could do to help me since the car is over warranty at 82,000 miles. My car is only 4 years old and from everything I've heard, no other type of car has this problem and it has been happening to other Saturn Ion owners that have less miles on their cars than I do. This is obviously a defective part and needs to be recalled. There is a danger of someone not being able to turn their car off and possibly running out of gas or not being able to get help because an authorized service provider might not be open at the time.
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion, that I just recently purchased. I was driving to work and my car would not turn off. The key was stuck in the ignition and could not be pulled out. I took it to midas and carx and they said they had never seen this where the car wouldn't turn off. I had to drive from dekalb to glenview because it was the only place with the part. They replaced the cylinder and key asm-d. I noticed the other day on consumer affairs. Com that 50 pages worth of people had the exact same problem with the 2006 and 2004 Saturn Ion. This needs to be recalled.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. While attempting to turn the vehicle off, the contact noticed that the key would not turn and he was unable to remove it from the ignition. The failure was diagnosed and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 85000.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. She stated that while attempting to shut off the vehicle, the key was removed but the ignition power remained activated for approximately one hour. The contact disconnected the fuel tank and battery. The dealer advised that the cylinder for the key was damaged and would need to be replaced. The repairs were done at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint filed. The failure and current mileages were 87,000.
Drove the car in the morning and everything seemed normal. Stopped and the ignition would not turn off. The key would come out without turning backwards, but the car would continue to run. In order to turn off the engine the steering column was removed and a "plug" was disconnected. In order to start the car, this process was done in reverse and the key replaced and turned the little bit of space it had left. The ignition cylinder lock is being replaced and I will request the old part.
2006 Saturn Ion key is locked in ignition in the "on" position with car running. The key will not turn to the off position or allow the key to be removed from the ignition. No way to stop car without pulling the fuse and unhooking the battery.
When I proceeded to turn my key to turn off my car, my car would not turn off. My key would only turn half of the way but would get stuck in the ignition and my car would not turn off. I then turned my car back on and then tried to turn off my car again. It finally worked after jiggling my key. Sometimes my car would turn off fine but most of the time, it would not. I became frightened and very uncomfortable with driving my car because the problem continued to get worse. I then did research on the internet and found out several other Saturn Ion owner are having the same problems. Some Saturn Ion owners even have not be able to turn their car off at all and had to leave there car running until the gas ran out. I did not want this to happen to me, so I decided to take my car in to get it fixed. They said the problem was the ignition lock cylinder and that I was going to have to get it replaced. I was very upset that this is Saturn Ions fault and I have to pay for their negligence. My ignition lock cylinder was replaced with a brand new one from Saturn. Not even a day later the same problems started once again. My car still turns off with a little jiggling of the key but I know it will not last. This is not safe! I do not feel I should have to pay for Saturns carelessness.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated the keys would intermittently became stuck in the ignition. The failure occurred twice and the vehicle was taken to the dealer both times. The first time the failure occurred, the dealer made unknown repairs to the ignition gauge. The failure recurred within two weeks. The second time the failure occurred, the dealer advised that the ignition gauge was too tight. The dealer serviced the vehicle yet the failure recurred. In addition, the vehicle would shake sporadically and stall without warning. The contact stated she was able to restart the vehicle but the failure would randomly occur. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 99,364 and the current mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated the key would not release from the ignition even with the vehicle in park. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the ignition cylinder assembly was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 46,000 and the current mileage was 48,000.
Could not turn the car off, the key was stuck in the on position with the car still running, had to pull the spark plugs out to turn off the car and disconnect the battery to keep from draining due to being in the on position. The ignition lock cylinder was bound in the housing. Dealer replaced the ignition cylinder and housing, I don't know if they still have the old part.
Key will get stuck in the ignition and will not come out. It was a safety concern because the vehicle could not be turned off with the key. The only way to turn off the vehicle was to pull the ignition fuse out. There was no improper use of the ignition or the key prior to the event. The dealership replaced the cylinder case and key cylinder. They charged for the repair it was 800 dollars for the repair. The vehicle was out of warranty with only 33000 miles on it. Their seems to be alot of complaints/blogs relating to this issue with the Ion.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. While driving at 65 mph the steering wheel locked and was unable to turn. The power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician stated that the vehicle was electronic and does not require power steering fluid. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to authorized dealer twice and was repaired. In addition, the key failed to release from the ignition with a clicking noise. After waiting a period of 30 seconds the key was removed from the ignition without hesitation. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure mileage was 98,000. The VIN was not available. The current mileage was 107,000.
I have not been able to turn off my ignition or remove my key two separate times. Not only that my power steering went out and was only able to be fixed by the dealership. Most recently along with the key ignition problem, there is a transmission problem. The first time the ignition was fixed it was under warranty but this time it is not. I have read several blogs of similar complaints from suffering consumers.
My car would not turn off and my key would not come out. I had the same problem with my vehicle last July, the exact same issue!!!! I immediately called the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from and that "corrected" this problem last year and was told to bring it in because they would have to make sure that it was in fact the same issue, in which it was. I was told that I would have to pay $40 for the diagnostic test that was ran on the vehicle and that it was going to cost 451. 51+tax to have it repaired and that the warranty on the part expired 12 months after the repair for the first incident. The failure has not been corrected. After leaving the dealership, I called the customer service center of the car maker and the only thing that has been done about the failure is that they are going to call me back and that they will do their best to give me a discount on repairs. I just want to know why my vehicle continues to have repeated issues with the ignition system locking up? is the part defective? and if so why hasn't the manufacturer done anything about it?.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. When he turns off the engine he cannot remove the key from the ignition. He had to pull the fuel injector fuse to turn the vehicle completely off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs and they reinstalled the same parts back in the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified, and he was advised that he would have to pay for the repairs. The failure mileage was 37,455.
On the afternoon of sept. 17th I was running errands in my 2006 Ion. I stopped at a store and was unable to turn of my car. The key would not turn in the ignition at all and the key would not come out of the ignition. There was no warning and I have had no previous issues with the ignition. I took my vehicle directly to the Saturn dealership to find out what the issue was. It turned out that I needed a new ignition lock and key. I paid the approx. 200 dollars to have this repair completed. I researched this issue and found out that this is a very common issue and that Saturn is doing nothing to remedy this issue.
Arrived home after work and as usual went to turn off car when the ignition key would not turn to off position. The ignition system would not work. I called the road side assistance and was walked thru the process to disable car by disconnecting fuse under hood. I later had to pay for the ignition system to be replaced. Extremely frustrating since my car was less than 3 years old at the time. I had purchased the car brand new back in March 2006.
I own a 2006 Saturn Ion and my key won't turn to the off position. I looked it up on the internet and apparently this is a common problem I found hundreds of complaints about this happening to the 2006 Ion 2. I have a new born and what would of happened if the wheel would locked up will I was driving with her or my other three kids. I called Saturn and they said this happens often but why has this not been recalled or the potential buyers warned about this.
2006 Saturn Ion ignition key locked and will not turn.
2006 Saturn Ion, mileage 50,000. Ignition key will not turn off. Dealers nor Saturn accepting responsibility. Pervasive problem, complaints and no action. Costly repair bills, loss of income from lost time at work. Imminent safety hazard. Recall action should never be initiated only after a disaster occurs.
1. For about a year before the incident, my key on my vehicle would get stuck in the ignition sometimes (just a sticking feeling, nothing major). A couple weeks ago, I put the key in the ignition and it would not come out. The car wouldn't turn off b/c the key was completely stuck. When I researched the problem, I found out many people have had this same problem with their newer Saturn Ions. I was upset b/c I bought this car new in 2006 and my warranty had just expired. Saturn would not pay for the repair, even though they could not explain why the ignition cylinder broke and several employees admitted this was a very common problem. 2. The failure was the ignition cylinder, which broke after only having the car for 3 years-I took auto shop, so I know not to put too many keys on my key ring. A part should not break that soon on a 3-year old car. I noticed the key getting slightly stuck every few weeks or so. The day my key got stuck, the consequence was that I was basically hostage to my car-I could not turn off my car, & could not go to work and leave my car on the street. It was unsafe for me to drive around until I ran out of gas on the side of the road. So, I had to agree to the repair, even though Saturn refused to pay for it. 3. The ignition cylinder was replaced and it cost me $250. (another $100 for a day's missed work) *I greatly hope you recall this defective item. I called the Saturn national hotline and they would not help in any way and said the recall process takes "a long time" and until then, customers would have to pay for the repairs to this part. I only had to "google" this issue and found countless people with 1-3 year old Saturns who were stuck with this same problem. I am a 33-year old student who cares for my brother who's disabled. I do not have this kind of money. It scares me to think about what I would have done had I been out in an unfamiliar road/area and been unable to turn off my car. :/ thanks very much for your time.
2006 Saturn Ion had less than 100k miles on it. Power steering went out while driving. Soon after, the key became stuck in the on position and I could not remove. Ignition needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the component inside of the ignition lock cylinder failed. As a result, the vehicle cannot be turned off and the key cannot be removed from the ignition. She explained the issue to the dealer, but they are not assuming responsibility for the repairs. Some mechanics stated that the defective item was made of plastic, rather than metal. The contact believed that this failure should not occur to a newer vehicle. The only way to shut off the vehicle is by removing a fuse or disconnecting the battery. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 41,000.
2006 Saturn Ion 3. Key would not come out of ignition. It started out just ever so often about 6-8 months ago and steadily became more frequent. Took the car in to the dealer, and they put in a new cylinder and housing and I also got a new key. The warranty was out in 8/08, so I ended up paying $572. 40 for repairs. I came home and am still having same problem with the key not wanting to come out of ignition at times.
1st occurrence - unable to move ignition key from run to off while vehicle is running. Would not be able to stop motor in the event of an emergency situation. Had to remove fuse and disconnect battery to stop engine. Dealer replaced lock housing. Problem re-occurred in less than a month.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. While driving 75 mph, the cruise control stopped working. The power steering, battery, and coolant warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact also noticed that the vehicle would no longer accelerate. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The contact did not notice any differences beforehand. The current and failure mileages were 51,000. Updated 10/16/08 the consumer also stated the key became stuck in the ignition. Updated 10/21/08.
Key was stuck in the "on" position and ignition would not turn off. Called onstar, the representative called all Saturn dealers in my area but all were closed. We figured out which fuse was replaced. Took car into Saturn dealer the next day and was told I would need a new ignition housing and key code. Total repair cost was $500. The car was out of warranty range. I agreed to the fix and called Saturn corporate to ask about this and was told I should have bought the extended warranty. Corporate representative was rude and offered no help or solution.
My car is parked, but I can't turn the ignition off. The key comes out, but the engine is still on.
I purchased my '06 Saturn Ion in June '06. Just last week, I parked my car at a local store and when I attempted to turn off the ignition, the key wouldn't budge. The ignition had locked up. After several attempts, I contacted my local Saturn dealership and they told me I would need to bring the car in immediately to be able to turn off the engine. Once I arrived at the dealership, they told me the situation and how they can fix it at a cost of $300+. With no other options, I agreed and they promptly fixed it within the hour. However, as I paid my bill I asked the service representative what the cause of the ignition lock was and he said it was a faulty part from Saturn and that it is a common problem. To me, that means Saturn should be taking care of the charges and these faulty parts!! there should be a recall and a replacement made by Saturn!! I have had two Saturns and have always had good experiences and was very disappointed with how they handled this "faulty" situation! and to top it off, on my receipt, parts were less than $40 so labor was hundreds of dollars for less than 1 hour of work for their own faulty part. Unreal!.
The ignition would not turn off and the key removed. I had to pull the ignition fuse to get the car to shut off. I towed the car to the dealership where it was purchased and was told that this was not covered under the warranty that was purchased with the car. It costs $750 to replace the ignition and the shift lever cable.
My wife and I own a 2006 Saturn Ion which we bought used last December. Last night when pulling into her parents driveway while on vacation the key would not turn to the off position once put in park. The car was stuck running with the key in the ignition and would not come out. Fortunately I have a little background in mechanics so was able to pull out the ignition relay switch then disconnect the battery(which is in the trunk, so couldn't shut the trunk either or I would not be able to connect the battery again) just so the car would shut off and not drain the battery as all the accessories were still on. After researching this on the internet I have found dozens and dozens of different people having the exact same issue. Unfortunately my car is no longer under warranty so I will have to pay for this entire bill out of pocket. When and why is this not a recall yet??.
Going to a dinner at mothers house - started the car just fine - arrived at destination - put the car into park went to turn it off - key would not turn it was stuck in the 'on' position and not moving period. . . Had to pull the fuse out for the ignition - aaa wouldn't come out on a Sunday evening - nowhere in northwest arkansas to drive the car to be looked at because everywhere is closed - now - even though my car is off the key is still in it, and I have to essentially put a plastic 'key' into a fitting underneath/inside the steering wheel to turn off and start my car. Anyone can walk by and try to break into my car because they see keys in the ignition - if I didn't have the friend that new something about cars my car would have overheated and probably caught on fire, because no one would come out and help me. . . . Ridiculous!.
Key locked in ignition and car will not turn off.
