general problems of the 2006 Saturn ION - part 1

Airbags.

The year, make, and model of my car has a factory recall for the fuel pump failing. I went to the dealership and they informed me my VIN # wasn't included and their was nothing they could do about it. My vehicle started leaking fuel last week so I dropped the tank and removed the fuel pump. I have done my homework on this including watching several videos on youtube concerning this issue and I'm 100% positive this fuel pump has failed in the exact location that all the other recalls have and yet my VIN number isn't on the recall according to this GMC service department manager. I am going to have to put a fuel pump in at my expense today because it's my transportation for work but I'm very upset about this situation and gmcs failure to have my vehicle included and having to replace their defected fuel pump. It's very frustrating knowing I'm putting my time and money towards it because I have my hands full trying to replace the house that hurricane ida destroyed about a month ago. We need help with this situation because our money is very tight and don't really have it to fix gmcs mistake. I will keep the fuel pump that came out of it along with the receipt for it so anyone can clearly see that I'm not only correct but being shafted on the recall. The car is leaking gas from the gas tank. I see recalls from this year, make and model from this vehicle yet when I put my VIN in it says 0 recalls.

The rpms jump around and the a/c makes noise and lights flicker at times. The car will just stall in the middle of an intersection or when I'm turning onto another road. It's quite scary with children in the car. My main concern is a large SUV put it in reverse and hit the front of my car before ending up on the hood near the windshield. She was going pretty fast and pushed my car pretty far but no airbag! then on a separate occasion I was doing 55 miles when a large animal darted out in front of me. My front end and radiator and front end were shot. Even split my passenger side dash open and had to be towed off but no airbags!! exactly how do I have to be going for me to have protection????.

Fuel leak.

The car is having the same difficulties as the other cars covered by the recall. It was made in tennessee. The manufacturer is refusing to correct the problem and states the car is not cover under the recall. Car can't be driven due to smell of gas and due to the information I have researched it may start a fire. I would like them to correct the problem.

Leaking fuel and fuel smell.

The car died while in motion moving down a city street and failed to restart. There's a strong gasoline odor in and around the vehicle and it appears to be leaking fuel from underneath the car.

We have power steering light comes on and later it will rest but its happening alot also emulsion light came on after replace fuel lines.

Engine reduction, serious safety concern, was almost hit by a semi, engine reduction light comes on, lose power and car slows at a high rate causing extreme safety hazard in traffic, must pull off interstate turn car off to reset, happening 2-3 times a day, strong smell of gas, have a leak and it is not covered under the warranty, sooner or later someone is going to be cruising down the interstate and their Saturn is going to reduce engine power and they will not have time to get out of the way, they will be plowed down by a semi. Are we going to continue to allow gm to ignore this issue like they ignored the ignition switch probelms until it starts causing deaths, why not solve the issue before the deaths start to occur, it seems the older these year models get the worse this problem becomes. I was forced to put a date, but this is an ongoing problem that is getting increasingly worse with the fuel leak, maybe one day the engine will reduce power at the same time I will get run over by a semi and the car will explode into flames from the fuel leak they are not recalling for my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. While driving various speeds, a fuel odor emitted through the vents. The contact also noticed the fuel odor coming from the floorboard. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while reversing at 1 mph, the contact noted a fuel odor in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a leak in the fuel lines due to the material in the fuel lines having rotted and failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also spoke to herb chambers Cadillac of warwick 1511 bald hill rd, warwick, ri 02886 who advised the contact to tow the vehicle over to have it diagnosed under a potential warranty extension. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,656. Np.

Strong smell of fuel at rear of car after driving, and while parked and running. I noted the recall notice affecting these cars with this problem, however, when I searched, I found that this recall did not affect my VIN number. This car is a special rare version of this type of car called the "redline" edition, and so the VIN may not come up automatically, as only about 600 were made that year. I am planning on talking to the dealership.

A week ago, my car wouldn¿t start on the first try, but did start on the second. As I drove around town that day running errands (multiple stops/starts), I began to smell gas as I walked around the back of the car. The next time I drove the car was 3 days ago; every time I tried to start the car it took 2 tries, and the gas smell near the back of the car was worse. I also began to smell a strong gas smell as I loaded bags into the trunk. Yesterday, I experienced all of those issues, plus I had to drive with the windows open because the gas smell was now very bad inside the car. When I parked at the supermarket, I was able to see a small amount of gas on the rain-wet pavement, coming from just ahead of the rear driver side tire. The progression of the leak was fast - over 7 days, and only about 70 miles driven (I drive <5,000 mi / yr). I went online to research the problem, and found gm recall #090226 / NHTSA campaign id# 09v419000, which perfectly describes what¿s happening. I¿m planning to call gm tomorrow about this, but I expect to be disappointed, since my car was not purchased or registered in any of the states listed in the recall. It shouldn't matter where I bought or registered my Saturn; if my car demonstrates the same defect, the repair should be covered by gm. I also found a scary number of complaints on various websites from other Saturn owners who are experiencing the same problems, but are also not included in the recall. How many is ¿enough¿ for gm to expand the recall? gm's failure to address * of the cars affected by this problem is appalling and dangerous.

Re the 2013 fuel system recall. Parts cracked and fuel leaked. Gm recalled and promised to replace system. My vehicle began leading in may of 2016. I brought it to the dealer where it has sat for one month. Dealer unable to get fuel filler assembly part 15918244 from gm and gm making no promises about fixing it or getting the part. They have said the problem may or may not ever be resolved. They claim the supplier may be able to supply by mid-August. Then they updated it to maybe in September. In the meantime, I have to rent a car with no end in sight. Can;t get definitive answer from gm regarding if or when part will be delivered.

There is a very strong smell of fuel - sometimes when driving, but most often after turning the vehicle off - inside and outside of the passenger compartment and inside the trunk. I believe it may also be leaking a small amount of gasoline. The smell is very strong and definitely noticeable, and I am concerned that if there is in fact a leak in the fuel system somewhere, that a fire may start from a stray spark, etc. There is a recall for 2006 Saturn Ions sold and registered in arizona and nevada due to for possible cracks in the plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly (NHTSA campaign 09v419000). My car was bought and registered in illinois, so it does not apply. Why would cars in all 50 states not be covered - if it has to do with heat, I would think that you would be more concerned for vehicles in states that have variable temperatures, since that could cause plastic to crack, too. I am the original owner of the vehicle - which has low mileage for its age - and I have tried to maintain my vehicle so I can continue to drive it for as long as possible. This is not caused by me, but a known manufacturing defect and should be fixed by the manufacturer at no cost.

I am starting to smell fuel and the fuel system has developed a slow leak.

Takata recall,,,I have been smelling fuel from my car about 2 weeks,,I took it to an automotive for diagnostic and they told me and gave me a print out of a recall that was sent July 2015,,this I never received, so I called a gm place where I prev had my recall done and said that my VIN number is not recalled for this problem! they said that all 2006 Saturn Ions are not the same, since my VIN # is not part of this recall they wont fix m y car,,,I dont understand , I am smelling fumes not only when I drive , but hours later it still smells. They said I could bring it in for 300. Oo diag. And then pay to have it fixed!! can you explain this to me please!?.

A few weeks ago I noticed a smell of fuel coming from my car when I stop, or slow down. The last couple days the smell has bin getting stronger. . I see all these complaints, but nothing being done or it only for a few states. As a single mother of two I don't feel safe having my kids in the car.

My car started having a terrible gas smell in andout of the car, when I drive to work and then leave for the day you can still smell it. When I get up in the am to go to work I can still smell it,I took it to be checked out to a mechanic and he put it through all checks and found something wrong and went on line and saw that there is a recall for this problem. . I never received a recall notice. So I called the dealer where I bring my recalls and he said he doesnt have to fix it because my VIN # is not part of the recall, even though I have a 2006 Saturn Ion and they are being recalled. Leaking fuel. Trying to replace fuel line and see if that solves the problem. Had same problem 2 months ago with 2004 Saturn VIN 1g8aj52f34z162166. Very frustrating to see years of complaints on this problem with only limited recall.

I noticed a strong smell of gasoline inside the car and it was sometimes hard to start. I noticed a large puddle of gasoline leaking from approximately under the left rear passenger door. I took the car to Chevrolet dealership for service. There was a puddle of gasoline about the size of a softball within two minutes of parking the car in their parking lot. They have informed me that the fuel lines have rusted and will cost in excess of $700. 00 to repair I feel that this is a safety issue due the close presence of the exhaust system and is a design/parts flaw in the design of the car.

My car began with my ignition switch sticking and I received a recall notice in the mail so I took it to be corrected. . . . After supposably being fixed I'm still having the same problem. Now about 5 months ago I started smelling a faint smell of gas. . . Now its so severe I can't drive the car. It's actually dripping onto the ground. It takes 3 or more times to get it to crank. The gas mileage has gone down from 30 to nothing. From the VIN search my car isn't included in the recall for this which is ridiculous. I don't have the money to have this fixed. I don't understand why gm isn't taking responsibility for this. Lives are at stake here. Please help.

Return fuel line rusted out at support clamp leaking fuel onto ground. Vehicle has not been in an incident and I noticed it in the driveway.

Fuel smell and fuel leakage under car. Cracked fuel line? recall has been issued for southern states, but I live in ohio. Recall should be extended to all states, since my breakdown occurred at only 70,000 miles. I am unable to drive the car or repair it due to expense and obvious safety concerns for my family.

Began smelling fuel and noticed fuel on the ground. Notice there is a recall on this defect but only on vehicles in arizona and nevada. My vehicle is from michigan. There are other complaints of this same problem all over the internet.

My Saturn was at the dealer for the gm ignition recall. The dealer told me my fuel lines were rotted and leaking. I thought this odd since the car was at the mechanic's for a rusted exhaust the week before. I called my mechanic from the dealer and he said to bring the car back that day. He found the leaking lines. Total cost of repairs $567. 42 since all gm parts were purchased. The dealer had to have known to look for this problem, leading me to believe it's a known issue.
