Noticed fuel smell found puddle/leak in front of driver rear tire (part of fuel module lines0 checked for recall on gm site(none found fuel line). Came here to research found bulletin 12191 special coverage took to gm and they are refusing to replace under this special coverage saying only the module itself would be covered if it were a problem. There are many many more out there having same issue and being told the same and a very small few dealers are fixing (probably the ones with a conscience. They want me to pay for a factory defect to the tune of $1300 for a covered issue. (supposedly)I really feel others and myself are getting shady action on the part of gm honoring there now owned problem . Please help. They are also fixing ign module however long that may be. Thank you and please help (ps) currently in illinois however car registered in florida (in illinois 2 mo).

37 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

Fuel lines have rotted and breached causing fuel to leak. This leak location is on the rear drivers side of the vehicle, approximately 3 inches from the exhaust system , a critical safety issue. This fuel line failure has been documented by the bradshaw automotive service dept. (864-879-3536), a gm factory dealership. Bradshaw automotive has confirmed that there is nothing which I or any other owner or operator of this vehicle either did or failed to do which would cause or contribute to this catastrophic fuel line failure. It is also confirmed that this fuel line damage was not caused by an accident or any other type trauma to the vehicle or the fuel system. This vehicle has no history of accident damage verified as per carfax I am the owner of this vehicle and our son has been the most recent operator of this vehicle for appox the last 6 months. I purchased this vehicle in 2013. I have requested full assistance from gm to remedy this apparent design flaw and / or manufacturing defect. The cost quoted to me for repair by bradshaw (gm authorized) is appox $600. I contacted gm (866-790-5600) . The case number assigned by gm is # 71-1311684273. I have spoken to tier 2 district specialists jenny (ext 11619) and sarah (ext 21577). Gm has decided as of June 13, 2014 to refuse assistance stating the basic warranty is expired and refuses to put their position in writing. The unsafe vehicle is presently sitting in the bradshaw automotive facility lot in greer SC near our home. Please help !.

38 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

Car suddenly stops on hill. Meter in car says car is 3/4 full with gas. So the car was not out of gas. Car must have something wrong with the fuel ignition or something for it to stop. Went and put gas in car to just to make sure , and as soon as I did the car started. It makes no sense for the gas gauge to read it has gas and the car stops. Also when car is parked fuel is on the ground leaking. Not sure what is going on but according to a saftey recall in 2012 I think that is the problem with my Ion also.

39 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

I heard on tv that gm had recalled the Ion because of deaths associated with fires from leaking fuel modules and failing ignition switches. So, I called gm and was told that they will only fix the tyhe ignition if it fails and the fuel module when ypu can show it is leaking. It seems like if they have a problem with their parts they should try to fix them prior to stalling on the freeway or having the vehicle burst into flames from leaking fuel. Am I off base here?.

40 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

I have had trouble with this ignition for years, having to jiggle it to start the car, a key tip broke off from trying to turn it. I also was never contacted about fuel line recall that I had to have repaired and paid for. My engine has also lost power and the engine light has been on for years and they don't know why? I don't feel safe even driving this piece of junk to the dealer.

41 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that there was an abnormal gasoline odor coming from the vehicle without warning. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was awaiting the results of the diagnosis. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 47,000.

42 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

I've been smelling gas in my car. I thought that I had spilt gas on myself but now I see there's a leak and I'm getting horrible mileage. It appears there's a recall in certain "warm weather" states for this exact problem. I live in nc. How is that not a warm weather state? so I have to pay out of a pocket for a problem that gm knows exist but somehow they managed to eek out of taking responsibility except in a few select areas. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. This is a serious problem and I can't afford a repair like this right now.

43 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

2 months ago I received a recall letter from gm stating if I smell gas or see a leak bring the car in for repair at no charge. It also stated it was not necessary to bring it in unless I'm experiencing these issues. Sunday afternoon while driving I noticed a strong smell of gas and I thought nothing of it. I have a sensitive nose. Monday I could visibly see gas dripping from the car and the smell was so strong I got sick. I immediately took it to gm dealer. They claim that the parts around the recalled part are broken and not the item recalled itself. They wanted $974. 00 to fix it and would not allow me to drive away as it was dangerous. They also charged me $75 for just looking at it. I don't see how this is a coincidence. I think they are getting away with scamming people. I will never ever buy another gm car! I had the car towed and found another garage to repair it for $450. I see many complaints for the same problem. It should be covered under the recall.

44 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Several times per week (and sometimes 2-3 times per day) there is a strong gasoline odor inside my car while I am driving. It is so strong it gives me a headache, and I have sometimes become sick to my stomach. My passenger is able to smell it as well.

45 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, a strong odor of gasoline fuel emitted with a puddle of fuel visible on the ground. There was a recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline) and the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall in 2010. The failure recurred and the vehicle had not been recently repaired for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

46 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted in and around the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 65,000.

47 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2012

Vehicle exhibits the exact same issue described below, but because I do not live in these states, my vehicle is not covered under this recall. I fear that my vehicle could start on fire any day now and gm will not care. This is a serious safety hazard to not only me, but other drivers as well. A fuel leak is a serious issue that I feel should not be ignored. General motors is recalling certain model year 2006 Chevrolet cobalt and Saturn Ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona and nevada; and model year 2007 Chevrolet cobalt, pontiac g5 and Saturn Ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona, California, florida, nevada and texas. The plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly may crack. If either of these ports develops a crack, fuel will leak from the area. If the crack becomes large enough, fuel may be observed dripping onto the ground and vehicle performance may be affected.

48 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

I noticed that my car would not turn over like normal. Then I began to smell gas and lose mileage. I looked up similar recalls on this site but I did not get such a mailing.

49 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while driving 20 mph he notice the check engine warning light illumined on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop. The mechanic stated that pump module needed to be replace and that there was a recall under the issue. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated the VIN was not included under the recall NHTSA campaign id number: 09v419000, component: fuel system. The failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 95,000. Jp.

50 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2010

2007 Saturn Ion engine disables while driving. Dealership unable to diagnose problem, no codes. This vehicle has been at the dealership for the better part of a month and a half. This problem has occurred every time I have picked it up from the dealership, then towed in to re-diagnose. No codes at this time. It has been suggested that this car is unsafe for the consumer to drive, as this has happened on the highway and surface streets as well. There are no lights indicating that the engine failure is going to happen. The car looses all power and has to be turned to the off position and in park to restart. This is an ongoing problem and seems to have no apparent resolution. This needs to be fixed before an accident occurs. I was told by gm to pick up the vehicle and drive to and "see if it might happen again" although it happens everytime I drive the car. There is nothing that triggers the problem it happens when it happens.

51 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2010

Unfortunately I have a 2007 Saturn Ion which sounds like it is going to break in half over even the slightest small bumps in the road. I have a warranty on the vehicle which expired in June 2010. Although the car only has 29000 miles on it~ Saturn would not honor the warranty when I brought my car in for a check engine light~ it was the purge sensor. They wanted to charge me over $300 to repair this issue. I went online and saw many other's had reported the same problem. I also saw the part for only $26. 00 ~however at the Saturn dealership they charged me $51. 00 for the part. I ended up fixing the repair myself to avoid being robbed by the Saturn dealership!! I am very displeased with my car~ now the struts and control arm bushings are making significant rumble when driving over the slightest bumps in the road. At 29000 miles the car should not be making any noise!! I feel very unsafe and scared in my Saturn!! I've seen many reports of other owner's with the same vehicle that are similar. Even the gm cobalt which has the exact same platform and steering has the same issues and for that car power steering issues have been recalled but not for the Ion which ~I repeat has the same components. I bought my car when fuel costs soared and thought it would at least last me 5 years with out issues. I think gm needs to address these issues especially since so many consumers are experiencing issues at such low mileage. There are also issues with the rear defrost, power windows, steering, and transmission. I'm from mn. And it's terrible when you have a newer car that won't even take you 30,000 miles without breaking down!! I'm very disappointed and Saturn needs to recall everything on these unsafe vehicles before someone gets seriously hurt ~like Toyota. I'm sure you've had several complaints. The car is defective!! please help!! Saturn won't repair unless it's completely broken even if the car is smokin they blow you off!!! ~horrible!!!.

52 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds or when standing outside the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of gasoline. In addition, he also noticed that the power steering would fail when completing a turn. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The current mileage was approximately 85,000. Kmj.

Gas pedal accelerating on it's own causing a wreck of a 2007 Saturn Ion.

54 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

Poorly designed sunroof drainage system (specifically drain nipple at end of tubing) causing severe leaks to inside cab along driver and passenger front doors and floor. Water damage to power windows, locks, mirrors. Water damage to ip to body harness connector under front driver side kick plate causing computer to produce false check engine codes related to app and forcing engine into reduced power mode at high speeds creating possibility for accidents.
