Saturn ION owners have reported 6 problems related to other fuel system hoses lines/piping, and fittings (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 05/17/2020

Gas leaking from fuel pump/gas tank. A strong odor of gasoline is permeating the cabin. My eyes burn and lips are numb. Second day gas can be seen dripping off of the fuel filter, the fuel filter is coated with gasoline. Gasoline pours from underneath the rear passenger side of the vehicle any time its started.

2 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

The fuel feed pipe and evap emis pipe rotted away. Fuel started being pumped out of the tank and being sprayed all over the car including the exhaust. Gm part number 15283792 and 25775259. The pipes only rotted in the rear along the frame where they are covered by heat shield in close proximity to the exhaust. The remaining parts of these fuel pipes are perfect. Even the brake lines that run along with the fuel lines are perfect right there. Every brake line looks perfect maybe do to a fact that they are coated with a black material from the factory. There is no recall on these pipes because it isn't part of the fuel module.

3 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

After having my emissions tested in WI in which it passed at the time on or about may 27, 2015. About a week latet, I began to smell a gasoline smell coming from the diiver's side of the car, after I drove it and then parked it and turned off the ignition. I didn't see anything dripping from the car to the grounc, I noticed that the smell of gasoline became more and more prevalent until about June 17, 2015 when the smell was so great and I hadnt driven the car for well over a week because I was afraid something was leaking or would happen while driving. My brother smelled it also when I backed up and pulled forward. We checked under hood, but nothing and no spots on the ground. Took it to a garage and the mechanic and owner said that the fuel lines, fuel filter, etc. Needed replacing and r which cost approximately $263 . . I also looked up information by a mechanic who states that every signgle cobalt and Ion have this same problem since the cars were built. He gave a description of what it takes to remove and replace fuel lines, fuel filter, etc. Whenever I took out the car, that car could have exploded or started an engine fire. This is a dangerous situation that could have involved the loss of not only the vehicles, but peoples lives. I firmly believe that gm should have to have these vehicles on recall for this very dangerous malfunction of the fuel tank, fuel filter and fuel lines and be required to pay for these repairs on the cars affected. Thank you for your consideration in this situation.

4 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

At first I had starting problems. I looked into the ignition, spark plugs, coils, plug wires. A g. M. Dealer said I had a code that said #3 cylinder misfire. #3 cyl. Spark plug was the only plug that was not running to lean. At that point my transmission started shifting rough. With in about 1. 5 months the engine started hard starting. I decided to change the fuel filter, bought one from auto zone, crawled under car and could not find a fuel filter. My g. M. Dealer didn't know what I was talking about. So I explained it again. They came back with "it must be in the fuel tank. I have changed hundreds of fuel filters in my 50 years of being a mechanic. Every automobile I have changed the in tank fuel pump has had a screen to catch the large pieces that may get in your tank, but I have never seen a fuel filter in tank. Please let me know what you think.

5 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Smelled gas leaking for a few weeks every time we would fill up. Just assumed it was spillage. Finally noticed drips of gas under car then a whole tank of gas ended up on my driveway. Car would also intermittently not start, presumably due to fuel leakage. Had repair done by private mechanic who determined fuel lines had completely rusted through. Saturn says not responsible due to the original recall only involving a rusted fuel filter, however this was an immediate fire/safety threat.

6 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

Early in 2013, we noted some moisture in the trunk of this vehicle. In late may, we hung a "damp rid" desiccant device in the trunk and noted that the "damp rid" device rapidly saturated with moisture and also formed clumps and/or crystals in the trunk of the auto. (the "damp rid" in the trunk was saturated within two weeks, whereas it takes a couple of months when hanging inside a closet in the house 1-888-326-7743). This week, I inserted a brand new 9 volt battery into a kidde model number kn-coeg-3 carbon monoxide/explosive gas monitor and placed the monitor in the trunk. Within 24 hours, the monitor was chirping. The peak level of gas after 24 hours in the trunk of the car was 10. (this household monitor can not discriminate the precise type of gas in this particular case). Today, I opened the trunk and cleaned everything out. The source of the moisture was clearly noted on the passenger side inside of the trunk because the interior of the trunk was actually muddy close to a one way flapper vent/valve on the passenger side. The one way valve measures around 4 inches high and 6 inches long. I am reporting this because of the proximity to the gas tank filler cap on the passenger side, 12 volt ac delco battery on the passenger side in the trunk, and auto emissions from this Saturn and other cars. Inhalation of any or all of these fumes or vapors can lead to health problems including erratic behavior, drowsiness, etc. Of course the risk of explosion and corrosion of sensitive electrical and fuel components is accelerated in damp conditions.
