Steering Problems of Saturn ION - part 2

Tl the contact owns a 2003 Saturn Ion. While driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering operated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to paddock Chevrolet (located at 3232 delaware Ave, kenmore, NY 14217, (716) 941-4093) where it was diagnosed that the steering shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.

In January 2016 while driving on highway to work I had bear to the right at an intersection from 1-90 to 1-76, wheels/steering locked or something and I ended up spinning off roadway. Hit division embankment crashing front end and my air bags never deployed. Traction in the car I later found out was not engaging when it should have been. Now car's traction does not work if it ever really did. I have been in touch with gm complaints department and now I have been assigned a case number but this is about recalls on y vehicle that I do not know they really are because Saturn wants me to pay to get this information. My vehicle had a complete failure of the power steering while driving down the road at about 50 mph. Fortunately, there was no vehicles around me and I was able to manual steer it to the shoulder. The steering power assist has completely failed. I contacted Saturn who looked up the VIN # on my vehicle. Saturn said there is no open recalls on my vehicle. I looked on your website and there is a recall for this exact problem on 2004-2007 Saturn Ion's and I have a 2006 Saturn Ion. I mentioned this to Saturn and they said that there is a recall but it's VIN # specific. I said how can this be when my car (which falls under the same model and years recalled) is having the same failure? they didn't care about my question and simply said it's not covered and I can take it up with the NHTSA. The failure is the electric steering motor. They use the same electric motor (exact same oem part number) in all the Saturn Ion models and the chevy cobalt. Is there any assistance you can offer me? I really do not have $1000 to have it repaired and I already have put quite a bit of money in this vehicle. I had planned on keeping it. Now I can't even sell it.

The steering wheel just stopped. It stiffened up as if the car was turned off while I was driving nearly causing me to crash. I took the car to the dealership to ask them to consider repairing the problem based upon the fact that there are so many (400,000 Saturn Ions on the road) complaining of the same problem. GMC told me that since the vehicle has no recall; they could not repair my car.

Power steering goes out randomly while in motion. Sometimes it lasts 5 minutes sometimes up to 25-30 minutes. Goes out everyday on my way to work (26 mile commute). Extremely dangerous when trying to park or turn from a light and I don't realize that the assist is out. Obviously on highway not as much of an issue but when driving at slower speeds it is difficult.

While on a neighbor hood driving at approx. 35 mph I steering while was difficult to turn and then locked itself in straight position. It is parked next to home on city curb side.

The vehicle smells like gasoline after being driven and smells like gasoline when stationary. The power steering will display a warming message and the car will become hard to steer.

12-13-2018. Took my daughter to school. Shut the car off went into the school and came out and started the car from parked position turned the car around was on a side street to cross highway 13 was ready to turn onto highway 13 and no power steering, this was part of a recall that gm issued and this new part didn't even last 38,000 miles. Tl the contact owns a 2003 Saturn Ion. While driving 65 mph, the steering seized and the steering wheel could not be turned at all. The contact pulled the vehicle over and waited for awhile. Afterward, the steering returned to normal. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic was contacted, but could not repair the vehicle because they did not have the equipment to repair electric vehicles. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 152,000.

The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

"takata recall" I put my key in the ignition. The car stalled for a quick second then came on gully. As I reversed out of my driveway and went to make a slight left I noticed my steering wheel had locked up. I was able to slow turn the wheel as I had to manually steer. I pulled over and parked. This is not safe.

I had the recall fixed in 2015. The same issues that I had before have returned. When driving and the tank is full, I will get a service engine light and the tank gauge will read empty. It was fine when I began driving . Upon restarting the car the error goes away. When I put my car in park and try to turn off my ignition I have to put he shiftier in park several times before I can remove my key. Today car ran great when trying to move my car after starting my car my power steering was gone. Again upon turning off my car and restarting it , the power steering returned. I called the gm recall number and a case was created but I was told that there were not any current recalls on my car. The service number is 8-4833918801. But was told that all repairs are my responseability.

The power steering stops working while you are driving without notice . When you are truning it is hard,also the bearing and struts are also very ruff. Almost had a wreck when turing.

I hit my brakes to avoid a accident my car went to left in front of another car. I found out that struts shifted and causing the upper control arm to snap and brake off causing my car to go to the left into another car.

Driving down the road and the went to turn the corner on to i90 west from highway 56 south and it was vary hard to pull oit of the turn like it locked up almost put me into the ditch.

Power steering goes out then when sitting for a period, it will reset and start working then the problem repeats itself and I have no way of knowing where it will happen again, sometimes on the highway, hard to pull off road. First time it was stationary with "power str" on dashboard, sometimes it happens in motion down the street or roadway.

I was almost involved in an accident due to the steering wheel going very hard while I was trying to make a turn. A mechanic looked at the car and said that it does not have a power steering fluid compartment to add power steering fluid.

The power steering keeps going out sometimes when you start the car it will not have power steering and sometimes when your driving it will go out and is almost impossible to drive.

When driving the vehicle the steering gets very hard and then cant steer we have to try to pull over and shut the car off for a few seconds then restart it to go.

I was highway 56 turning onto interstate 90 and the car was vary hard to correct back from the turn it wanted to stay in the tuun and almost out me in the ditch in minnesota.

I purchase this car on 04/12/2018 from a local dealer, everything worked fine, until 2 days later. I was driving on the highway when suddenly the steering became hard to turn. I then parked the car for a few day when I started it up steering worked alright for about a half minute, the stopped working again.

Driving home from work suddenly I had experienced sudden loss of power steering. Research online indicates this make model and year has a known issue with this problem. However using VIN search I find no recall information. What are my options if I believe it's a manufacturer issue?.

My complaint number is 11061303 I complain about power steering went out and I did not receive a recall notice. I guess when they did the ignition recall and I brought it in they supposedly did the power steering too on Dec 12 2014 . Even if they did this the power steering should not go bad in 3 years. My car is garage kept.

The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The local dealer (pellagrino Chevrolet in westville, NJ) was notified of the failure and a service appointment was scheduled. The manufacturer was also notified and the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced in November of 2011 per an unknown recall. The failure mileage was 98,000.

Car just recently popped up power steering only happens when its sits over night and when I start it up in the morning it's very stiff to turn but if I drive it like that for a little and shit the car off the steering is fine. The dash lights flicker off and on and when doing so causes heat or a/c to cut out after driving it for alittle bit. The key locks in the ignition switch when I go to shut off the car and I have to press the plunger for it to release. Keeps saying coolant when going down the road even though the coolant is where it needs to be.

The key gets stuck in the ignition and will not come out. This happens when the vehicle is parked. The auto parts store told us not to buy an ignition switch. They said we needed to check on the recall for this Saturn. How do we find out if all recalls for this car have been repaired?.

Over the last three to four years my power steering has went out my front passenger tire has almost fallen off twice I had to have it fixed my car don't want to start after I fill it up it's sputters every time and I've had literally had to get cut out of my seatbelt because it would not unlatch and mikey don't want to come out of the ignition have the time. The power steering went out while driving the tire almost fell off while driving and of course I'm stopped when I'm fueling and I was stopped when I was stuck in my seatbelt and stopped every time I try to take my key out.

The steering wheel was unable to be moved at all. The contact turn the vehicle off and sat for a while and turn the vehicle back on and the power steering was working again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (maritime Chevrolet: 985 post road, fairfield, CT 06824) where the technician informed the contact that there was no recall and would not look at the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was unable to assist due to the VIN having no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle had not been repaired the VIN search revealed no recalls associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 207,000. Nb.

Tl the contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. While driving various speeds, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. In addition, "power steering" displayed on the instrument panel. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 111,000.

Several times when I have gone to turn off my car the ignition switch will not release the key. When this happens I have to place my foot back on the brake and run through the gears with my gear stick. The ignition switch that is currently in my car is one that was used to replace the factory one when the ignition switch recall was issued. Also, recently my car has been showing problems with the power steering. It has gone out multiple times on my son while he was driving resulting in him having to fight the car to get it to turn. I have never had a problem before and I hear that there are recalls for both. These problems have happened multiple times and I do not have exact dates.
