36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

Was sitting at stop light and accelerated normally going through first gear when the tranny slipped and the rpms revved up. I stepped back off the gas and was able to get back home doing only 20-25 mph;when I got into the garage, I found I had no reverse and the engine would only go up in rpms with no movement. I entered a ticket w/ gm cs the next morning and called around, learning the repair job would be $4k-5k because of course, I was out of warranty due to time. It appears this has happened to many, many Saturn owners and gm is doing nothing to help the american consumer when it's clearly obvious there is a mass failure of the wave plate. I finally got a callback from gm 3 days after I filed the complaint and they 'offered' to pay for roughly 25% of the cost of the repair with me footing the rest. Too late. I traded it in yesterday and was not happy with the trade-in value but didn't have much choice. I plan on joining any lawsuit that comes along against gm if one hits my mailbox.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

We purchased this 2007 Outlook back in April of this year. The dealership gave us a sheet that purported to indicate that the vehicle had gone through a full inspection and was clean. We live in north florida and have had a lot of rain lately. Every time it rains, water gets into the doors and into the vehicle itself - we can hear it sloshing around in the doors and in the dash of the vehicle - and there will be water, as much as half an inch, on the floorboards of the vehicle. This is wreaking havoc with the electrical system, and sometimes there will be the smell of something burning. The fans, particularly in the back of the vehicle, are running intermittently; there is a crackling noise that comes through the radio speakers even when the radio system is turned off, and there is so much moisture in the vehicle that the windows fog, making it impossible to see, and the fog is difficult to clear even with the defrost system because it's not being caused by cool temperatures but rather by the moisture in the vehicle. Yesterday, I drove it to walmart and then home after work with no problems, parked it in our driveway, and didn't leave the house the rest of the day; this morning, we went outside, and when my husband put the key in the ignition to start the car, it wouldn't start at all, and then he couldn't get his key out of the ignition; we had to lock the doors manually and leave it there with the keys in it. Back in June, one of our local news stations reported on a recall of 194,000 gm suvs for similar issues with water leaking into the doors and that gm would be contacting owners of affected models to bring their vehicles in for repairs, but we have not received any kind of notification from gm, and ours is obviously one of the vehicles affected.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

It jerks really hard around 50-60mph about 10 times a week. About every other day, within the first quarter mile from my beginning destination, and before reaching a speed of 30mph, my 07 Outlook jerks really hard, the check engine light comes on, and it will not shift down.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

When I was picking my son up from school, I tried to accelerate, but the car wouldn't go much faster then what I was already doing, but the rpms were going high. It was as if the transmission wasn't shifting gears properly. If seemed like it was in second or third gear when it should be in fourth or fifth. I have been reading online and everyone seems to be talking about a wave plate????? it seems to me that it will become very dangerous when driving on main roads (I was on a back road to his school). We just bought this car, it doesn't have a warranty and I can't afford to fix this problem!!! how does this go on without having a recall if sooooo many people have the same complaints?.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2013

While driving my 2007 Saturn Outlook down the highway, my engine light came on and my rpm's went up. I pulled to the side of the road, turned the vehicle off and waited a couple of minutes to see if the computer system needed to reset. I have had a few issues with this car and that seems to be the suggested answer in the manual. I started to car and couldn't go faster than 40mph. I tried reverse and found that I did not have any reverse at all.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

I just purchased the vehicle. I went out of town with this vehicle and had to stop at some place I didn't know. They hooked the vehicle and found out it was a cylinder misfire. Within the first 2 weeks of purchasing the vehicle the check engine light came on. When found it out was a cylinder misfire I tried calling the dealership and letting them know what happened with the car. The place that checked cleared the service light. Less than two weeks later went to dealership and was informed that they would not check it because the light wasn't on. In July, a few months of having the vehicle than I had the stability track come on as well as the brake light. Went to dealership and they checked and told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it but the brake fluid was half empty. They put some brake fluid in vehicle and told me to go to gm. Gm told me that it was the master booster cylinder without looking at the vehicle and told me it would be like almost $700 to fix it. So less than two weeks go by and I drove the vehicle and it was having a hard time before this with the car getting some gas. Beginning of Aug, I start driving it to church and the check engine light came on and the car was barely moving. It was in rpms of 4-5 and I was only going 60 mph, trying too. I had my niece and nephew in the car and they new something was wrong with the car. The car would barely go in reverse at this time. Now the car will not go in reverse at all. The car has only 55,654 miles on it. This is a safety issue and needs to be fixed and recalled.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

07 Saturn Outlook transmission wave plate went out. Have seen numerous issues with this in Outlook, traverse, acadia. Recall should definitely be issued, gm is really screwing a lot of people.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2013

I was driving on a freeway in new jersey when I noticed the vehicle rpm was over 3000 and the vehicle was not going anywhere I couldn't believe it, I thought it was a dream I heard the stories about other gm SUV's having transmission problems and here I am, experiencing the same problem at only 41750miles , just outside my warranty and still paying for the vehicle . I was just able to make it to work ,thinking that I must be dreaming eight hours later I tried to reverse the SUV and it would hardly move, the car was finally diagnosed by gm with a broken wave plate (surprised! ) and a transmission that needed replacing with a $4000 price tag . Thank you gm for stealing over $40000 of my hard earn money. There has to be a recall on these vehicles they all have the same problem.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

I was in a traffic circle and my rpms revved up high and then dropped even though I was accelerating smoothly. I could not go faster than 20mph. This was a sudden problem, with little to no warning. After getting onto a less busy road, I drove slowly as the car would not shift properly. The rpms kept going up and down. I pulled into a business to get off the road. I tried to see if restarting the car would help. The vehicle started fine but there was no reverse. Since I was now stuck in the driveway, I called for a tow truck, which took my car to the dealership. They diagnosed the wave plate (known issue) or the transmission (known issue). This could have been an accident-causing issue if I had been on the highway or if the traffic circle had been much busier. I use this vehicle to transport my children. It is only a matter of time before someone gets injured or killed due to this known problem at +/- 100k for this vehicle. With more and more of them approaching this mileage every year. . .

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2013

While driving my car out of the neighborhood it wouldnt switch out of 2nd gear. The faster I would go the higher the rpms. I stopped the car at several stop signs and tried to shut the car off and restart it but the problem continued. When trying to shift the car into the l position and manually shift the gears it would not shift out of d. I was able to creep back home in second gear with the hazard lights on. I took the vehicle to the gm repair shop that has always serviced this vehicle only to be told that though the wave plate was replaced approx a year ago. The particular issue with my vehicle which is some seal on the back of the module to hold the pressure is no longer covered and it will be a nearly $1300 repair!!! according to the dealer this is a recalled part on several models from the gm brand but it is not recalled on my 2007 Outlook! if this is a known problem I really think it would be right for gm to fix this part apparently it is an issue on the 2007 as well! I am so disappointed with gm right now. My husband owns a chevy and I really hoped our loyalty to the brand wouldnt bite us in the butt. Guess we will see what can be worked out with this repair before the verdict on that is made. I am only grateful that this did not happen while I was trying to make it back home. I had all three of my children in the car with me and though traffic was light it was very scary hoping people had enough time to stop and go around us.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook, since I purchased the car, there were problems with the transmission. In 2011, after 2 repairs, a new transmission was put in. 34,000 miles later the transmission went again. I have a 5 year old car that has had 2 transmissions and 7 repairs and the dealership will not honor the original warranty. Today after speaking with customer service for the 5th time, they told me that they would only assist me partially with the repair. I asked for a bill w/ detail on parts and labor, what was done on the last repair that went wrong and what the total cost would be for this repair, including all parts and labor charges. Now at 4 days later I have no information, no car, and no restitution. Customer service offered to find out about getting a loaner car, but when they asked the dealership, she came back to tell me that I would have to call hertz and they would help w/ the expense. After she spoke w/ the dealership again, she came back to say that the dealership said hertz had no cars available. . Anywhere? how can an american car company, that was bailed out by taxpayer money have this kind of customer service? looking at all the complaints on multiple boards, how is it possible that there are not 1000 complaints about gm transmissions? how are they getting away with this? why is there not a recall?.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

My wife and children were driving on the highway when the vehicle starting shuttering during acceleration. The rpms would increase without vehicle accelerations and sometimes the vehicle would jerk with acceleration. The vehicle continued to operate and my wife was able to complete the trip. The problem was obviously related to the transmission. When I delivered the vehicle to the transmission clinic (colorado springs) the transmission guy told me what the symptoms were and the problem. I didn't have to say anything. He even quoted me an accurate estimate of the repair without looking at anything yet. It cost me $3200 for a vehicle with 84,000 miles on it. That doesn't include the letters and services for the windshield washer heater, the air bag sensors and the timing chain issue.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2013

I was driving home on highway with kids and went to accelerate and SUV would not go faster. Luckily, I was close to exit and able to get off right away. The SUV would not go faster than 25mph so I was able to limp home the final 3 miles. Once home the SUV would not go into reverse or any high gears. Only works in first gear at 25mph and rpms at 4000. The check emission symbol is lit on the dash. Researching this on internet seems major problem with wave plate broke and requires new transmission.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

Was driving down the highway when I went to pass a car the car hesitated the engine revved up. Transmission went out. Was almost hit by the truck behind me. Once I got in a safe location did a little research and found that many people have had the same problem. It is just a matter of time when this problem will cause someone to get hurt or killed.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Outlook. The contact stated that while traveling 45 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would not respond. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the transmission needed to be replaced because the wave plate failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 74,000.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

My 2007 Outlook when I was 70 miles from home started acting funny. I went to get on the interstate where people are running 75 mph and I got to 40 mph off the off ramp and it wouldn't shift it was running about 4000 rpm, I slowed down moved to the shoulder. Had my husband come pick us up, it was 20degrees out. He drove it for a few days, took it by trailer to an auto shop and the wave plate in the transmission was broke. As I have heard many of the same issues with this transmission. $ 2700 later my car I have owned for 11 months now has a new transmission. You should not have to put a new transmission in at 74,000 miles. This was scary and needs to be recalled, we easily could have been hit by a car going 75 miles an hour.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2012

My 07 Saturn Outlook has 2 major issues the wave plate broke in the transmission code p0776 and didn't run. I had to wait over 7 months to save since I had a car payment to have it rebuilt. It should be a recall since there are so many in my position miles were 80,674 and now my roof leaks should be a recall it is messing up my electrical could cause a fire in the vehicle that I used to take my kids in so I have to drive around with towels on my seat as my car rains on my head in side when it is raining outside.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2012

While driving approximately 35 miles per hour on the road, the car suddenly decelerated to 25 miles per hour and would accelerate past 25 mph. We then drove 25 mph in primarily 35 mph speed limit roads back home. Fortunately, we were less than 10 miles from our home. The car will not drive in reverse either.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2012

We pulled up to an intersection, stopped, and when we tried to proceed the vehicle would not move. The engine would rev but the transmission would not hook up. We were stranded at the intersection for several minutes while other vehicles dodged and darted around ours, it was a very unsafe situation for my family and the others around us! after many attempts we were able to get the vehicle to the shoulder and had it towed from there. I have made further efforts to get the vehicle to move but the transmission will not work.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2012

Was driving and came to stop. As I started to accelerate car did not exceed 25 miles per hour. Vehicles started going around me. Got home and checked fluid levels reservoir was empty. . . Added fluid test drove car, still not go over 25 miles per hour, took to dealer. Had just purchased vehicle 8/31/12. Dealer states it is out of warranty and will charge $500 to take out transmission and do diagnostic.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

Driving the vehicle at 35 mph and had loss of power and would not accelerate and the check engine light came on. Took it in to have it looked at and the transmission had to be rebuilt with only 47,918 miles on it at a cost of 4000. 00 dollars.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2012

This car is a lemon. We bought the car used from a gm dealership in sept 2012. In retrospect, it was a sign from above indicating it was a lemon however we held out faith. The first problem, not even 2 weeks after buying the car, the water pump blew. The thermostat then broke only a few months later. Another repair. Then the monster came --- timing chain! the timing chain broke! just awful! thankfully, we discovered a 120,000 warranty thing that included the timing chain, otherwise this pos would've been dumped off at the nearest junkyard. So, that was all fine and dandy until several months later the brakes wouldn't have pressure behind the pedal. We had to replace lines, pads, rotors, the whole kit and caboodle since that was all broken. Okay, so we fixed that. Ugh. We started talking about replacing the vehicle, but soon discovered we would owe more on vehicle than what it is worth. Everything was fine and calm and peaceful for quite some time. Then the one time we go to use the lift gate to unload some boxes, sure enough -- the lift gate wouldn't open!! the stupid switch went out on that! what?!!! they had to take the whole flipping door off the car in order to get to the stupid switch! it was locked shut. It wasn't a tragically expensive repair, so we paid it, moved on. Now, this is the thing that has really irked me. Noticed while driving the car's transmission jerks at 20-30 mph, and in reverse. So we called up the dealership, explained what it was, they test drove it, said "ooohhhh, it's probably the wave plate inside the transmission. " -- you'll need to purchase a remanufactured transmission from gm, or you'll need to have it rebuilt, but they're about the same price (about $500 difference). I was sucker punched. You win again gm! you're cheaply made crap and now my wallet is hemorrhaging again! I will never buy gm again! ever! piece of crap vehicles!.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2012

While driving with my 3 children in the vehicle with me, I stopped at a stoplight. Upon the light turning green I found my vehicle seemed to lack the power to go and the check engine light illuminated. I inched my way through the intersection and off to the side of the highway. Thankfully, no one collided with my vehicle during this long scary process. Onstar informed me of codes relating to the transmission. Once I got the vehicle to the dealership, I was informed this was very common for this vehicle. It turned out to be the wave plate had busted causing multiple other transmission damages. Even though my vehicle was under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty provided by gm, I was over by a few months time wise. Now it is June 2013 and I am at just a few miles under the 12,000 mile warranty on the repair work done last October and I encountered a very similar incident. I inched my way down the rest of the very windy and dangerous highway to my home as it was Saturday and the dealership had closed 20 minutes earlier. Onstar again gave me the same diagnostic codes as before too. On Monday, I contacted the dealership service manager who sent a tow truck to pick my Outlook up. After not hearing from them, I called this afternoon (Tuesday) to see what was going on. I was informed this time it was different parts of the transmission and they would not be covering the repairs. She also stated there would be a charge for the towing! these are all issues common to all Outlook, acadia, and traverse owners. I am very thankful neither my family nor anyone else was hurt during these incidents, but is that what it is going to take for gm to be forced to recall these transmissions?.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

Vehicle came out of gear and stopped moving. Could not put it in forward or reverse. Gm mechanic diagnosed it as a bad wave plate, allegedly by only looking at the drained transmission fluid which contained substantial filings. Research online has revealed countless complaints that are similar, some harrowingly more dangerous, having to do with sudden up or down shifting and revving at speed. Gm has issued TSB 09-07-30-012a which states that the wave plate is to be replaced when any transmission work is done. . Read more...

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Our transmission went out on 20 July 2012. It was under a 5yr/ 100,000 miles warranty. It had 87000 miles at that time. It was 2 months past the 5 yr part of the warranty. Gm was no help in the repair because of this. They know this transmission is a known problem yet refuse to acknowledge it. I feel it should be recalled.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2012

While driving with my family on the highway, we began to experience unusual gear shifting. It felt as though the vehicle didn't know which gear to be in. We made it home, and then a few hours later I started the car and the transmission was making the sound of a fan being spun way too fast. We started to drive and the gear shifting was again erratic. After stopping to check it then getting back on the road we no longer had the first 3 gears. I would have to press on the gas peddle almost to the floor to get the car moving again. I called gm and they said take it to a dealership for a diagnoses [our local dealership is horrible]. They said if it's found to be manufacturer they "may" be able to help us, but that our power-train warranty expired the month before so there wouldn't be any guarantees. I followed my gut and decided to remain a person and not a number by taking it to a local transmission repair shop with a great reputation. They called this morning and said I'll be needing a new transmission. A few minutes later the gm rep called and said they wouldn't be able to help me out (he looked into it for me). This is only 3 months after the power steering pump failed. Before that it was the passenger airbag sensor that went out.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

Wave plate broke inside the transmission. Loose metal from wave plate damaged many parts throughout the transmission. Original estimate was $3500 due to being 3 months outside warranty. Gm agreed to cover remaining bill if I paid $1100 due to the relatively low mileage (78k). One small wave plate caused thousands of dollars of damage and gm knows this is a problem with the '07, '08, '09 Saturn Outlook.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2011

My transmission went on my well maintained 07 Saturn Outlook one week after recommended transmission fluid change. . Initially gm told me they needed to replace the transmission. At this time it was under warranty . They decided instead to repair it. This December the transmission went again, this time it was three months out of warranty so gm will do nothing . I feel it is related to the initial repair . A technical service bulletin was issued recognizing a faulty transmission plate which when it breaks can damage other parts . This is what happened to my car.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2008

My wife and I own a 2007 Saturn Outlook xr, which we brought brand new. After 1 year, we were having trouble with the Saturn Outlook trying to find gears, and the throttle response was disappointing. When passing, you press the throttle, and there is a 15 second hesitation, before the vehicle starts to pick up speed. We have taken the vehicle in for transmission recalls, where they have updated the software. I did this three times, it would last for a couple of weeks, and start right back malfunctioning. Now my vehicle is no longer under warranty, and guess what, the transmission goes out, while on I-55, in chicago, on my way to work. . Wow! $4,032. 00 to replace, brand new. I paid this because I felt that it was cheaper than another car payment. I am so angry at gm, because they knew that this transmission was faulty, and all they did was take my money, and left me hanging. I am just like other hard working families out there, who just can't cough up 4 grand, and it not put a dent in your budget. All they did was come up with a sorry patch job, that was only temporary, and once it was no longer covered under warranty, they had no shame or remorse about charging you. I called gm, and tried to see if they would do something, ha! no such luck. I often think about that moment my wife could have been hurt, or hurt someone because of gm's negligence. Please help me, and all the consumers out there who have purchased from gm. They need to take responsibility for this serious matter. Thank you. . . .
