My 2018 Subaru Forester is experiencing faulty activation of the passenger seat air bag light since June 2018. Vehicle was purchased new in August 2017. The dashboard reads that there is no airbag on for the passenger while someone was seated there and the car was sitting or in motion. This has happened on and off since June 2018. The light reads periodically that none of the airbags are on. After bringing it to my Subaru dealer in August 2018, I was told that a part would be ordered and that it was the passenger seat cushion that needed replaced. After waiting a month, I contacted the dealership and they stated that Subaru has to create and manufacture this seat cushion still, and they had no idea when this would be done. I have been unable to drive my Forester for almost 6 months now due to the safety issues of driving without the guarantee of airbags deploying. The dealership has no answer as to when Subaru will even start creating this new part. I am surprised it is not a recall since it is an airbag issue, and the dealership stated they had at least 7 other customers currently with the same issue. I have now been without my new vehicle and driving a loaner car from the dealer. There seems to be no end in sight as to when this issue will be fixed or even addressed by Subaru.

This used vehicle was purchased from a dealer as a "great buy", with 74589 miles on may 23, 2018. Less than one week later, bells and dings began sounding while driving, light indicators indicated that the srs system needed to be checked; that the passenger airbag was not on sometimes, other times it was. . Intermittent. Car in motion both on city streets and on highway. No recalls were reported at that time, and I never knew while driving whether either side seatbelts were engaged when I knew they were, nor whether airbags were viable. Dangerous for driver and for passenger. Independent dealer and service departments were perplexed, dealerships had no available parts. . . . . Here it is, oct. 2, 2018, over 4 months later, and no parts available to dealers or authorized repair companies to comply with safety regulations. This vehicle is unsafe; Subaru needs to provide parts at no expense to this customer to assure safety. And, they need to issue a recall or face potential lawsuits. . . . ## VIN passed ## Subaru Forester 2016 ##.

My passenger airbag light go on and off to signal if the passenger seat airbag system is activated or not. Dealer diagnosis is that the sensor in the seat is bad. The replacement part and labor is over $1000 because it is integrated into the seat. I called Subaru and they are willing to pay for half, however this is an unacceptable solution. The airbag system on such a new car should be fully functioning and Subaru should take full responsibility for such a problem as the sensor in the seat since they made it so expensive to replace due to the integration into the seat, you can't just replace that one sensor.
Srs airbag system needs to be checked light is on and passage air bag off indicator shows off. The dealership ordered replacement part which has been on back order since sept. 9, 2017. Problem started in sept. 2017, occasionally when a passenger was in the front seat and vehicle hit a bump, the srs showed warning indicator and passenger airbag turned off. System would reset when vehicle was restarted, but would occasionally duplicate the problem. Took vehicle to dealership on sept. 9, they said they ordered part and would call me when part arrived. I didn't hear back from dealership, so called them on oct. 26. They said part would be in and I dropped vehicle off for scheduled service for oct. 31. On Nov. 3 after not hearing from dealer, I called to see why service not completed yet, and was told part was still on back order, should be in sometime in Dec. The srs airbag system worked fine and no problem until the end of Feb, 2018. The random srs warning indicator when passenger was in the front seat and hitting a bump started reoccurring again. I have called the dealership again numerous times, and part is still on backorder. Now the srs airbag system needs to be check indicator is on all the time, regardless if a passenger is in the seat or not. I called the dealership on April 24 and they were going to escalate the part order and get back to me. As of may 2 I have not heard back, and srs airbag system is not working.

My airbag light goes on to signal the airbags are not working. It goes off and on at will. I have taken the car to the dealership 4 times now and finally they think they know what is wrong, but will not have the part to fix the problem until sometime in the future. The bluetooth is so bad that the people I talk to cannot hear me. Big safety concerns.
My vehicle has a problem with the airbag system. I was first alerted by my cars warning system, which states srs airbag system needs to be checked and gives me a red warning symbol of the airbag being inflated. Secondly it shows my passenger airbag is off even when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. This warning did not come on due to a collision as my vehicle has never been in a collision or involved in an accident otherwise. It simply appeared seemingly out of nowhere for no reason at all. I have taken my vehicle in several times to different Subaru dealerships to ask what the problem is. I was first told there was no problem with the system that perhaps it was just a malfunction in the sensor. Then the other dealerships told me that there was an issue with the passenger seat sensor, but that they are unable to confirm if this is the source of the problem causing the airbag light to come on and the passenger airbag to be turned off. They said I would need to replace the entire passenger seat, but they were unsure if this would fix the issue. I took it to an independent machanic and they also were unable to verify the source of the problem and referred me back to the Subaru dealership. I contacted Subaru of America about the issue and I never received any communication from them, although they promised to get back to me about the issue. I just know there is nothing I could have done to make this problem appear. I believe this is a manufacturer issue, just based on the fact that Subaru could not identify what the problem is or it's cause. So far I just have been told the passenger seat sensor is somehow defective and that it is not covered under any warranty.

While driving my car on the highway, (approximate 65 mph) I got a message on the console that indicated that srs system had shut down and the red air bag light went on. I drove it home and then turned the car off. When I restarted it, the red air bag light went away. The next day while I was riding on the passenger side, the red airbag light went off and a note on the console said that the front passenger side airbag was not operational. I took the vehicle to the Subaru dealer who could not recreate the issue and turned the car back to us.
The airbag light stays illuminated for weeks at a time and then will randomly turn off. I have taken it to the dealer twice and they could not identify the problem. I have continuously had the problem off and on for the past year. I see several people have had the same problem with this model and year Subaru, this should be taken care of by Subaru- ts.

The driver side front air bag light has lit up on the dashboard. It stays on every time I start the car and drive it. I have taken it to the local Subaru dealer in rochester, mn (clements). They say it will cost $3000 to install a brand new air bag system. I disagree. This is an inherent , serious safety flaw in the car. In my opinion, Subaru should fix it free of charge. I have not received any safety advisory from Subaru of America. Your guidance would be appreciated. Suresh kotagal.
2003 Subaru Forester. Passenger side airbag light on. Dealer stated that airbag on passenger side harness wires were corroded and required harness repair. Subaru parent company said there is only a 30000 mile warranty on the airbag wires. . . . This is a design defect and safety issue. Should be covered u der 100,000 warranty.

Air bag light remains on. After 3 attempts to repair in the shop, still remains on.
Air bag light has been on for about a month. It went out once for a bit but has been on since. I had one service dept. Say the problem was in the passenger side air bag sensor. Ths Subaru dealership said it was the air bag sensors under front seats. - caused by changing the position of the seats freqently and made the wires break. I have 88. 000 miles on my car. I am the only driver so I do not change my seat position often. There was nothing noted at time of purchase about limiting change of seat position. This is actually rediculos. They stated it would cost $370 to fix and they had packet pars available and could easily replace them. They stated this is an uncommon problem - if so uncommon problem why did they have to come up with these replacement packets? I read they reengineered this part for the next year model. I did some checking and found serveral complaints from other owners of 2003 Foresters with the same problem but not enought complaints to force a recall. . It is a definite "common" problem. In the end the dealership charged me $150 and replaced only one sensor which resolved the problem. I've read that such "safety parts" should be replaced at no cost? is this true? then I think I am owed a refund I am printing out a few of the same complaints and also the statement that this repair should cost nothing as it is a safety issue. Could you please advise.
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester and have had an ongoing problem with the air bag light coming on. Sometimes it comes on and goes off by itself. Most recently, it went off after I changed the passenger seat position. I have been advised that it is due to the airbag sensors under the front seats being jostled or detached either by changing seat positions or sliding something down alongside the seat (like a magazine or newspaper. ) I've had the sensor on the passenger side fixed at considerable cost to me. It's annoying and clearly a design problem that should be remedied by the dealer at no charge.
Airbag light comes on and goes off when the driver's seat is adjusted, ( this has been happening since the car was new, & sometimes staying on for weeks at a time). When ask about this problem at the dealers service department, they were aware of the problem and wanted over $170 to repair this safety issue as when the air bag light is on,the airbags are not working according to the dealers service department in auburn, wa. Since we still own this car, with less than 60,000 miles on it, we think that Subaru should be responsible for this safety problem.
Frontal impact while striking a deer at this speed should have deployed both air bags. The air bag light sometimes would remain on, but mostly it was off. From what I have found through other complaints is that this year vehicle is known for this issue, but a recall has not been issued. Is it going to take a death to force Subaru to correct this issue? the other issue found while repairing the vehicle is that both head gaskets are seeping coolant, the drivers side is seeping more just like the recall describes on 1999-2002 models. Even though this a 2003 it was purchased in the fall of 2002, Subaru failed to contact me and advise me to add the $1. 44 coolant additive to save the head gaskets. How is a consumer supposed to know these little details? now the vehicle has too many miles for them to care, sticking me with the estimated $2000 repair.
Airbag dashboard light comes on repeatedly. Dealer has replaced the right and left hand front seat air bag harness connector kit twice (in 2006 at 34,000 miles and again in 2009 at 63,000 miles. ) airbag light came on again approximately 6 months later. Dealer will not admit to any responsibility for repeated failure of the same part.

My check engine light came on and I brought my car to my local Subaru dealer. The service technician examined the car and determined that the engine light had come on because of a problem with my airbag. However, upon examination, he was unable to find anything wrong with the airbag and the engine light went off. I was then told not to worry about it since it was probably nothing. Luckily, the manager overheard the conversation and remembered a service bulletin (#17-07-04) that had been issued by Subaru regarding this very problem for 2003 Subaru Foresters. He explained to me that oxidation on the contacts in the wiring harness for the airbag sensor was causing the airbag light to come on and that I needed to have the necessary work completed (per the service bulletin) or else the airbags might not activate in an emergency. Since this is a protected part located inside the vehicle I feel that it was not designed appropriately to resist oxidation and that such a factory defect could potentially result in a very serious safety issue to owners of this model Subaru car. (we have a 2001 Forester with 112,000 miles and have never experienced any problem of this nature. ) I looked online and found numerous similar complaints all related to the 2003 Forester and only to the 2003 Forester. . Since 2009 the driver side airbag light will stay on after I have started the car. It will stay on for days, whether it is hot summer time or cold winter days. It may stay on for a few days or for months. The last time was from July 19, 2014 to August 25, 2014. This is the first time that I have reviewed the list of vehicle safety complaints. Seeing the other complaints about the airbag light remaining on encourages me to submit my history also. When it has been on, I think I should take it to the dealer but then it goes off before I can take the car in to the dealer. Seeing all the complaints I also think Subaru should be responsive to this problem.
Air bag light would come on and stay on for a few days and then go off. This condition would occur at random, with no warning. Finally the light stayed on long enough for me to get it to the dealer. Subaru dealer indicated that the wiring harness under the driver's seat for the airbag sensor had oxidized contacts leading to a failure of the airbag system. Dealer could not explain why contacts "inside" car in a protected area could "oxidize", but indicated that they had learned from service bulletins that this was a known problem with cars in the northeast. Wiring harness part cost $17. 13 but the labor to replace was $207. 13 failure of such a critical part due to simple oxidation, especially where the part is protected inside the vehicle suggests that the part was not designed appropriately to resist oxidation/corrosion. This is a safety issue that could result in a failure of the airbag system with possible injury.
After pickingthe car up from an oil change I noticed the air bag light was on. I drove the car back to dealership, and technician told me that from adjusting the seat the wires had become bent/loose, and they would have to take out seat and resolder the wires so the airbags could fire properly. Are you supposed to be able to adjust your seats?.
The air bag light seems to intermittently come on when the driver's seat is moved forward. The light goes off on its own usually when the seat is moved back but we have not detected any patterns.
Airbag light came on shortly before the warranty on the item ran out. Dealer checked connections and light went out. A few months later the light came again. Checked connection, light went out. Light started going on intermittently. Now was on steadily. Goggling 2004 Forester air bag light indicates this was a common problem. It was a poor design that exposed the connector to damage by feet or other objects under the driver's seat.
: the contact stated the air bag light illuminated. The dealership determined the harness assembly underneath the floor board was not long enough to maintain a connection and recommended a kit be installed. After the kit was installed, the air bag light went off.
2003 Forester for past 2 years the air bag light stays on after starting about once a month. Subaru technician found that the air bag connector under drivers seat was loose and he plugged it back in. That fixed it for about a month. Since then when light comes on I have to reach under seat from rear foot area and wiggle both plugs, air bag light goes out and works for about a month then I have to repeat the procedure. I do not like the idea of my airbag being disabled by a loose plug. What if I was in an accident after the plug loosened but before I restarted motor (apparently computer only checks air bag circuit each time car is started and light does not come on when connector becomes loose).
Fuel door release button does not work. Airbag light came on possible electrical problems. 5 days after purchasing the vehicle, the fuel door release button fell off. Opening of the fuel door was and continued to be difficult. The consumer would like a full refund for the vehicle.
This vehicle posed a serious safety problem because the vehicle only had one key hole, but had five doors, the consumer was able to access the vehicle through the drivers side door/key hole. Once the consumer was in the vehicle a lock pad on the door allowed for entry through the other doors, or a key remote. The consumer's lock pad also didn't work temporarily so the consumer couldn't open the hatch. The manufacturer and the dealer had not been notified of the problems. The remote entry device did not work temporarily so the consumer had to gain access with the key to the only hole on the driver's door, but then the power locks failed so the consumer had no way to open the hatchback. There was no release for the vehicle. The air bag light was on and needed a new harness to re-fix the problem and the odometer along with the speedometer failed immediately after the consumer had taken ownership. The consumer also stated there was a problem with the power windows.
Airbag light came on. Dealer replaced clockspring assembly.

During normal operation of vehicle air bag light on dash board lit up, and horn no longer was functional. Dealership examined vehicle, and informed consumer is would cost $1,000. 00 to correct the problem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Consumer noticed while traveling air bag indicator light stayed on. Dealer had been contacted, technician could not duplicate problem.
