1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/26/2023

The passenger seat, passenger air bags, and occupant detection system are failing. Yes! available for inspection. Passenger occupants are put at risk riding in my passenger seat as the seat does not detect if the seatbelt is on, or even if someone is sitting in the seat. The airbag will not deploy when intended! issue was first brought to 7/2023 at Subaru inpasco wa, where they “could not do anything because it was not yet a recall. ” as of 3/14/24, it has been confirmed by an isc (Subaru of hermiston, or) my vehicle has been there since!!! they have not been able to fix the issue or get the part. There is no date of when the part is expected to available. We have been working with Subaru customer advocates who have extended my loaner car out 30 days, but after that. I will be out of a safe vehicle. I have three children and need my passenger seat to be working effectively and safely! yes, there were warning lights that came on. The lights were on the dash. The red square with an “I” next to odometer and a red passenger air bag symbol below the other light that popped up. I have pictures and videos dated between June 2023 to March 2024 of the lights coming on.

7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/09/2020

** airbag system needs to be checked*** this warning has has occurred at least 5-6x's now in the last two months. Every occurrence there has been a passenger seated and occurs immediately as I go from park to drive. A recall was issued for 2015-2018 Foresters equipped with heated seats due to an airbag sensor defect. Details of the recall are identical to the problems on my 2014 Forester. It's the passenger side airbag having issues and my passenger seat is heated. I have two children and often transport my mother to medical appointments. When the warning message illuminates the passenger airbag will not deploy in an accident. This is serious safety issue and $1200 to fix a safety issue on a vehicle 5-6years old is absurd. The investigation which was done for passenger airbag sensor recall wum-98 needs to be revisited and I guarantee it will find the number of affected vehicles will grow.

8 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

Traveling from ri to western NY. Departed ri in am with moderate rainfall when "eyesight disabled" indicator flashed several times over the course of half hour. When rain subsided, indicator disappeared. Several hours later, was driving 65-70mph on straight section of major interstate with good visibility, approaching a highway overpass when "obstacle detected" warning appeared despite no obstacle in road, and shortly thereafter car went into a slow spin (felt as if floating) towards left, striking a guardrail underneath the overpass head-on and continuing to spin 360 degrees at which point I was able to recover control of the car. It felt as if brakes had engaged (? crash imminent braking system) although I did not have foot on brake pedal and I did not attempt to brake while in the spin as I feared rolling the vehicle. Despite extensive front end damage, airbags did not deploy. Had to leave the vehicle in albany, NY and currently awaiting evaluation by insurance adjuster. Of note, 5 months earlier the windshield had cracked when hit with small rock and was replaced at Subaru dealership where the vehicle was purchased.

12 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

2014 Subaru Forester with defective passenger airbag sensor with warning sign "srs airbag system needs to be checked". The passenger airbag will show that it is "off" with a person in the passenger seat while the car is in park and in motion. Sometimes, the passenger airbag will show that it is "on" with no one or nothing in the passenger seat. This has been occurring on and off for the past month, but has been a consistent problem for the past week. I took the car to the Subaru dealership and their scan tool shows a code for "occupant detection sensor matt" failure. They recommended to replace the seat bottom for $900. They reported that "a lot of Foresters" have been having this issue. There is not currently a recall for this, but is clearly a huge safety concern as the airbag may not deploy with a passenger in the seat in the event of an accident. All other safety recalls are up to date with my vehicle, and have not had any accidents or issues with my car. The airbag light concern just randomly began recently.

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

Tl the contact owned a 2015 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that a truck ran a red light and the contact t-boned the truck at 30 mph. The contact stated that the truck flipped as the front passenger side collided with the truck. The contact and her passenger were injured and had to be transported to the hospital. The contact's wrist and arm were sore and she required physical therapy. The passenger was in a back brace with two compression fractures in the back, a few broken ribs, she had a concussion, and a swollen foot and ankle. A police report was filed. None of the air bags deployed with the frontal collision. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle was towed to a junk yard to be investigated by the manufacturer. The dealer harvey Subaru (3351 benton rd, bossier city, la 71111 (888) 232-4109) said to contact the manufacturer. The contact was informed by the dealer that the VIN was included in NHTSA recall number: 19v-701000 (air bags). The contact was upset that the recall notices was not received until November of 2019. The contact did not believe the manufacturer in why it took so long to investigate, why the air bags did not deploy. The manufacturer just recently sent an email saying everything was fine. The contact did not yet receive a full report of the investigation. The vehicle was currently at a salvage junk yard. The failure mileage was 35,000.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/26/2019

The passenger side air bag sensor does not always know when an adult is seated in the front passenger seat. The passenger side airbag will remain off even when an adult is seated with the seat belt on. The airbag light will light up on the dash randomly but clears once the vehicle is shut off. This occurs while the vehicle is in motion and is concerning as the front passenger airbag would not deploy in a crash.

15 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

2017 Subaru Forester with 45,000 miles - air bag sensor went out unexpectedly (as shown by a red airbag light on the dashboard) air bag would not deploy if the car were to get into an accident even when there was a person in the passenger seat of the car. Light would indicate that there was an issue while driving at any speed. Light would turn off on occasion and then turn back on, even with no change in weight on the seat, indicating that the sensor was faulty. Nothing was spilled on the seat where the sensor is located nor should there be any other reason that the sensor should stop working at only 45,000 miles. This was purely an equipment malfunction.

16 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/14/2019

I was involved in a 4 car accident. I was rear ended by two vehicles behind me which sent me into the vehicle in front of me. 23 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

2017 Forester srs airbag sensor defective two years after purchase, the srs airbag warning light appeared. This light flickers on and off, at random, whether or not a passenger is in the seat. (no passenger will be driving with me until this is repaired. ) my Subaru dealership service manager told me that there was a recall (he misspoke, perhaps he meant should be) and said that he "sees this all the time". He immediately knew (prior to testing it) that they would be replacing the passenger seat bottom, for a new sensor pad. He said they are usually backordered. Backordered indicates to me that there is a high demand to correct this error in this critical safety system. At this point, I have Subaru corporate involved; I've emailed and spoken at length with kris drechsel, a supervisor in customer service, and charles hosier, a customer service advocate. While they both were superb in their interactions with me, I learned nothing about what Subaru is doing or intends to do about this reprehensible situation, other than pass along my complaint. I was emailed that they are "not aware of any trending issue with the passenger side seat sensor". Subaru is clearly aware there is a problem and is neglectful in not being fully transparent with owners that there is the potential that an airbag may not deploy in a collision due to this sensor defect. Subaru noted that they rely on customer feedback and that the appropriate protocol will be followed for such complaints. Considering the gravity of this issue, I assume, then, that I am the only customer who has provided this complaint and that they are now going to discover the trend and provide notice of this srs airbag defect to the public. There are 25 complaints on this site alone (of how many that "may appear"?), countless online forums, and apparently law suits pending. Is a death what's prerequisite here?.

24 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/07/2019

Driving at 65 mph on a 2 lane highway dry conditions in the early morning when I hit a deer in the front, causing major damage and the airbags did not deploy. This is a serious safety issue.

25 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

26 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

Tl the contact owned a 2015 Subaru Forester. While the contact's husband was driving 40 mph, the traffic stopped abruptly and he crashed into the rear of a Ford explorer. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. In addition, the driver's body lunged forward and struck the steering wheel. The vehicle was towed to grayson Subaru (8729 kingston pike, knoxville, TN 37923, 865-693-4550), but was not diagnosed. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 107,460.

27 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

The upper dashboard passenger air bag warning light above the steering wheel is going off and on weather there is a passenger in the seat or not. It may stay on after starting the engine and continue during driving. The last 45 minute trip I took it stayed on the entire time. Other times it has come on while a passenger was in the seat in the middle of a trip @ 45mph. The dealer on 2/28/19 says it's a "b1650 occupant detection system malfunction" and that the passenger seat bottom needs replaced but there is no replacement available at this time. Said they would call when it was available, but don't hold my breath. This is a safety issue as the air bag will not deploy in a crash if the light is on. I find many complaints about this issue online but no recalls. Why not. How many people will need to be killed before this safety issue is quickly resolved? this vehicle has 25,437 mile on it.

34 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Front passenger airbag warning light comes on intermittently, either on start up or while driving, stays on for hours or days at a time, unrelated to whether the seat is occupied or not. When it is on, passenger seat belt light indicates it is not fastened even if it is. The seat has never had spills, rain or otherwise wet. This has been going on for at least 6 months. Subaru dealer states past error code b1760 which they reset and say there is nothing they can do because they can not find an immediate problem. Dealer admits that when warning light is on, the airbag will not deploy. This is so unsafe I hesitate to transport any front passengers. It is a large safety issue that is being ignored! can you do anything?.
