36 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

Takata recall. I was turning left when I was struck by a car going in the opposite direction. According to police the impact was at 01-1 o'clock. . My car was spun into the guard rail causing damage to left front and rt rear of my car. The seat belt latch failed and released the seat belt and the front air bag did not deploy. There is substantial damage to the interior of my car ,steering column , gear shift ,etc. I sustained rather severe neck injuries which I believe would have reduced or eliminated if the safety systems had operated.

38 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/09/2017

The passenger side airbag will not deploy if there is a cushion on the seat. This was not explained to me until after I complained and I was then told that I should have read the owner's manual. Unfortunately, the owner's manual is not available until after the car's purchase and even then I would have had to know that my arthritis was going to get severe enough to need a cushion. The non-deployment of my passenger side air bag is very dangerous.

39 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/03/2017

Driver's Subaru was struck from behind by a box truck while stationary on a highway (driver had stopped just short of a multi-car collision but the box truck behind her was unable to stop); box truck pushed the Subaru into the car in front. Driver's seatbelt was on, but driver's chest struck the steering wheel and her head possibly hit the side window. Airbags did not deploy and seatbelt did not stop driver from striking steering wheel. Also, the empty front passenger seat rocketed forward on its rails all the way to the front, and at least three hinges flew off the passenger seat rail mechanism.

40 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

There were 5 major issues with my vehicle that I want investigated. I was driving straight nb on us-101 in the #1 lane of traffic, going approximately 75 mph, when for no explainable reason, the rear tires of my 2016 Subaru Forester began to skid me across the #2 lane of traffic. I will note that it had just stopped sprinkling and the road was damp. Issue 1: during my skid, the skid control feature never engaged (which is a marketed feature and a reason I purchased this vehicle). I had to fight the skid on my own. Issue 2: the roll over feature never engaged (which is a marketed feature and another reason I purchased this vehicle). After fighting to prevent my vehicle from rolling over and skidding out of control, I ultimately crash on the shoulder of the freeway, hitting a light post. Issue 3: upon hitting the light post, my seat belt flew off. (both my hands were on the wheel at the time and there were no loose objects in the area. Unless this is some "feature" it is extremely dangerous for the seat belt to disengage automatically. ) issue 4: the crash notification feature, that I paid extra for, did not do it's job. Even with my cell phone linked to the vehicle, the crash notification never called 9-1-1 on my behalf. I immediately called 9-1-1 to notify chp of my accident because I was fearful of another vehicle also spinning out of control and hitting me. Chp took a report. ** issue 5 **: the air bags never deployed. None of the air bags deployed. My car was deemed totaled by the insurance company and auto body shop. The auto body shop stated vehicle hit the pole so hard all bolts were bent into a 45 degree angle. How does a crash that severe not engage the air bags? I had a scar on my collar bone for a month after the crash. None of the marketed or required safety features worked to prevent the crash nor assist after the crash.

49 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

Our Subaru Forester 2007 was in a front end crash and the air bags did not deploy. Driver was alone in car, there were no passengers. Damage to car was considered "total loss" by insurance company (assessed damage was at least $7500 with just a visual inspection). Front of car had severe damage, and was pushed in. Subaru was traveling west and hit side of a large Toyota minivan that was traveling north at about 40mph (and had gone through a red light in intersection). Force of Subaru hit to Toyota was enough to cause Toyota to swing around and hit another car sitting at stoplight. Considering severity of crash and damage to vehicles it seems air bags in Subaru should have deployed. Airbags in other car (Toyota) did deploy. Luckily, driver of Subaru walked away with minor cuts and pain. Driver of Subaru saw crash coming and was able to brace self a bit for crash, and was braking at time of impact. Have pictures if needed for analysis.

A red light runner impacted my vehicle in an intersection. The point of impact was the right rear of my vehicle. The red light runner was in a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 and I estimate the speed between 50 to 60 mph. The force of the impact drove my vehicle into a car to my left that was waiting to make a left hand turn at the intersection. The stationary vehicle was a 2004 Ford bronco. The left side of my vehicle was driven into the left front of this vehicle. My vehicle was undrivable and totalled. There were two rapid lateral impacts to my vehicle yet the airbags did not deploy. My seat restraints were on.

57 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/30/2013

Approaching a traffic light which was turning yellow at a t-junction, I tried to step on the brakes. Perhaps I hit the accelerator with the force I intended to use on the brakes, but when I thought I stepped on the brake, I lurched forward rapidly. I could not correct in time and hit 2 poles and a wall. I don't know my mph. The 25 mph listed above is a guess, but the front end collision was so substantial the car was totaled. The air bags, however, did not deploy. The police, tow truck driver and witnesses could not believe that the air bags had not gone off. I was lucky; at the hospital my injuries were determined to be muscular rather bone related, but I had a sore neck, chest & lower back. Subaru responded to notification of this event : "it is difficult to discern why the airbags did not deploy without knowing the extent of the accident. According to the Forester owner's manual, the airbags are designed to deploy in the event of an accident involving a moderate to severe frontal collision. It is basically not designed to deploy in lesser frontal impacts because the necessary protection can be achieved by the seatbelt alone. Also, they are basically not designed to deploy in side or rear impacts or in roll-over accidents because deployment of only the driver's srs frontal airbag or both driver's and front passenger's srs frontal airbags would not help the occupant in those situations. Srs airbag deployment depends on the level of force experienced in the passenger compartment during a collision. That level differs from one type of collision to another, and it may have no bearing on the visible damage done to the vehicle itself. . . If the vehicle strikes an object such as a telephone pole or sign pole, or if the vehicle sustains an oblique offset frontal impact. The airbags also will not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a low-speed frontal collision. ".

59 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/19/2011

For three years, there has been a problem with the airbags light staying illuminated. According to Subaru service, the airbags will not deploy if the light is illuminated. On the last visit to the dealer, I was told that the under-seat connections for the airbags were corroded and had to be replaced at considerable expense. Since these connections are not exposed to the outside environment they should not corrode unless the equipment is defective. Since this defect represents a major safety risk, there should be a corrective recall.

60 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

The air bag dashboard light is always on. It first came on when the vehicle had about 82000 miles and at first it was intermittent. After about six weeks, it has become permanently lit when the engine is turned on. I have noted that this seems to be a problem on this model. The light does not bother me, but the fact that people have been in accidents and the airbags did not deploy does concern me greatly.

61 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/07/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Subaru Forester. The contact stated the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where he was advised that one of the air bag plugs that was connected to the air bag wiring was not contacting. The contact was concerned with the possibility of being involved in a crash and the air bags potentially would not deploy. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated there was a technical service bulletin issued by the manufacturer (NHTSA item number: 10015705: air bags) but there was not a recall for the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 69,500.

62 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/26/2009

My wife was in collision on August 26, 2009, that damaged the entire front cap of her 2009 Subaru Forester, which was bought new and with approximately 11, 000 miles on it. The air bag did not deploy. The wreck was at approximate 35mph. I filed a complaint with Subaru the next day. The complaint number is 1-365436785. My Subaru representative, linda payne told me at that point that they would not be sending anyone to look at the vehicle and would go buy the insurance adjusters report. The Subaru representative told me that there was no reason why the body shop could not begin work on the vehicle. Ion September 11, 2009, I sent Subaru the estimate along with photos of the damage. The estimate amount is slightly more than $10,000. Today, September 23 I receive a letter and a phone call from the Subaru representative stating that they need additional information and that no work can be done on the vehicle if they are going to inspect it. They are asking for medical bills, police report of the accident and similar information. None of this should matter. What matters is my wife was in a head on collision at 35 mph that caused significant damage and the air bag did not go off.

63 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/19/2008

The airbag light randomly goes on and off for periods of days at a time. This has been happening for many years. I brought it in to the Subaru dealer but they claimed it did not light up for them during their inspection. It then lit up for me on the way home and when I called the dealer from the road they would not look at it again until I made another appointment. Unfortunately I cannot assure that it will be on for them when they get the car. I later discovered that there was a Subaru technical service bulletin for this problem #17-07-04. They should have at least checked to see that this is a common problem. Further my mechanic said that when the light is on the air bags will not deploy upon impact.

64 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/22/2007

Problem 1: date 5/22/07 date out: 5/23/07 problem: brakes or transmission locked up; I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. Problem 2: date 6/22/07 date out: 6/22/07 problem: brakes or transmission locking up. The way that the dealership handled this issue is by disengaging the hill holder function. Additionally, the driver's side frontal airbag did not deploy during a front-end collision; yet the impact of the collision was serious enough to cause $9,200 worth of damages. Furthermore, one week prior to the accident, the passenger airbag detection light was not indicating initiation when there was a passenger, using the seatbelt, in the passenger seat. We had planned on taking the car in to have passenger airbag system assessed. I sent a request to the flatiron imports on 12/5/07, requesting that the entire airbag system be assessed for proper functioning while it is being serviced for the mechanical damages caused by the accident; however, I have not received a confirmation of this request as of 12/12/07.

65 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/26/2006

The contact tapped the brake pedal to miss the deer; this in turn caused the contact to lose control. The vehicle hit a double post head on, then slid down an embankment and stood on its nose. It then flipped onto the driver's side, rolled onto its top and then rested on its wheels. Seat belts were in use, but did not restrain the occupant. Frontal and side airbags did not deploy, injuries were sustained. The insurance company inspected the vehicle, but they could not determine why the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled, the manufacturer has been consulted.

66 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester
