36 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

2015 Subaru Forester. The passenger seat front airbag sensor is malfunctioning. The dashboard displays 'passenger airbag off' when someone is sitting in the seat. This appears to be related to a malfunction of the seat pressure sensor. When no person is sitting in the passenger side front seat, the airbag light says it is on. On the dashboard a red warning light indicating an issue with the airbag is constantly lit.

37 Warning Light On problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Vehicle driving down the interstate when the passenger airbag warning light first came on and it has been on ever since. Have taken it to local Subaru dealership and they said that the airbag sensor/passenger seat need to be replaced. They determined that there was no damage (water or blunt force) that occurred to the feature and that it was nothing we had done; however, it would not be replaced under any type of warranty. Since Subaru prides themselves in safety, it seems odd that they wouldn't do anything to remedy this complaint that has been cited repeatedly, especially since it is no fault to the owner but rather a manufacturing issue.

39 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

The passenger airbag warning light first came on as soon as I started my car one morning in mid-October 2018, in which I took my car to Subaru of kennesaw, GA to have it looked at. They first asked if I had spilled anything on the front seat (in which I responded "no") and then advised me that the whole seat bottom would need to be replaced (about $989 parts and labor) and that the part was on back-order. I followed-up with them in December 2018 and never heard back. When I recently went there for an oil change February 18, 2019 they brought the issue up to me again, in which I responded that nobody ever returned my call. They checked again to see if they had the part but stated it is still on a nationwide back-order. We are now going on 5+ months of my passenger airbag warning light being on (it sometimes turns off intermittently, but in those instances the passenger seatbelt light will come on and ding repeatedly until the seatbelt is plugged in - even if there is no passenger). I have done quite a bit of research into this issue and it seems like a lot of other consumers are experiencing similar issues. Subaru seems to have different explanations and seems very unwilling to fix their faulty passenger seat sensors. It is upsetting and discouraging to know that they have allowed me to drive around this long with a defective airbag/passenger seat sensor.

40 Warning Light On problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/04/2018

My 2014 Subaru Forester 2. 0 xt has had some issues with the warning lights come on. One of them has been the passenger side airbag light. When no one is sitting in the seat the seatbelt warning will chime the entire time I'm driving, then eventually the airbag sensor light will come on and I'll receive an indicator to have it checked. Upon taking it to the Subaru dealer they informed me that I would need an entire bottom seat at the cost of $1,000 plus $400 for install. I was told the part would take a month to come in as it has to be custom made. I was told that when the light is on none of my airbags would function on the vehicle. With two children I can't be driving a car that doesn't have working air bags. I've been borrowing a family vehicle for the last week while I try and work with Subaru corporate to get the cost of the repair fixed. It seems to me there should be a cheaper option to replace the computer sensor that's under the passenger seat. I've also read on some online forums that apple products, in particular iphones laid in the seat can impact this sensor. That seems like an issue as well. I'm hoping Subaru ends up paying for my seat or covering part of the repair since it sounds like a malfunction that doesn't have an easy fix, and the impact of the malfunction is to not have any functioning airbags.

41 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/02/2018

Within the last two months while driving with my wife in the passenger seat the passenger air bag system has disengaged several times and we receive three warning lights. A red srs light in the lower dash. A white "I" on a red background next to the trip odometer letter, and the srs indicator in the middle of the dash next to the time indicator comes on sayinf the srs is off. Took to dealer on 8/24/2018 and they sad they got codes b1650 and b1760 which they reset. They could not duplicate the problem and said water must have gotten on the seat, which has never happened. This weekend, 9/2/2018, we started having the same exact problems while driving. Restarted the car and the lights went off after a short drive and then came back on while driving. The lights only come on when there is a passenger in the front seat.

42 Warning Light On problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/19/2018

For 2 months since may 19, 2018, the airbag warning sensor light goes on my dashboard while driving and the passenger airbag off warning light also goes on see attached photo. This occurrence happens almost every time I drive my vehicle. I brought the vehicle to the dealer twice for repair but the problem still exists. Subaru starlink program has notified me with numerous emails that I should have this serious safety issue fixed as soon as possible. After not receiving any satisfaction from the dealer, I called and written twice to Subaru USA headquarters in cherry hill, NJ explaining this serious safety issue of having no active passenger airbag while driving. They stated that a part has to be ordered to repair this serious issue but it has now been 4 weeks since my initial call to headquarters with no results. I feel that they are stalling as there may not be an easy fix available. I'm extremely concern to drive the vehicle without an active passenger airbag protection for the safety of my wife if we were in an accident and there was no airbag deployment.

43 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

Front passenger airbag warning light started coming on during may 2018. Dealer determined fault is in passenger seat cushion and ordered part which was back ordered to mid October. On 10/23/18 the dealer says the part isn't expected until November 15. The warning light remains on most of the time while driving with a passenger.

44 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/02/2018

The passenger airbag periodically turns off without notice. The airbag indicator light shows that there is an issue and Subaru has contacted us about the issue. When we talked to the dealer they said it was a known interference issue related to cell phones and other devices and that if it continues to happen we should bring it in to have the passenger seat replaced. It has continued to happen periodically. Once the warning light indicates that the airbag is off, it remains that way until the vehicle is turned back on. Sometimes it is on when you start the car; sometimes it comes on quickly, and other times we drive for a long time and even go weeks without noticing it. Based on the fact that the company knows about this and that it is a safety system that is affected, it seems like it should be a recall.

45 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/23/2018

Passenger side air bag warning light indicates that the air bag is off when we are driving with the passenger seat occupied by an adult passenger. Our starlink system is constantly alerting the dealership of the problem. We have brought the car in for service 3 times. They tell us they cant find the problem. Although the warning light indicates that the problem still exists. Thank you bill.

46 Warning Light On problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/18/2018

Passenger air bag dash board warning light reads "passenger air bag off" regardless of a passenger being in the seat or not. This occurs while the car is being driven. The airbag system shuts off without cause.

47 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/05/2017

My air bag (srs) warning light has come on repeatedly since the car was new. It was mentioned at the 5000 mile service, but no action was taken. I August 2017 it began staying on most of the time. I took the car to timmons Subaru in long beach, CA, where I was told a passenger seat cushion had to be ordered due to a defective sensor. The car has been there three weeks with no progress, and they are saying they have multiple vehicles in for the same issue but there is no recall.

48 Warning Light On problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

This is an older car but still serviceable. The passenger side airbag warning light comes on sometimes accompanied by a seatbelt warming, whenever a passenger is seated and the car is moving. Also a message light indicates the passenger airbag is off. We took the car to a Subaru dealer to see what could be done. The only remedy offered was to replace the entire seat at a cost exceeding $2000. Not cost effective for what amounts to defective weight sensors. We have noted that newer subar's have had the sensors recalled. We request that the recall be extended to all affected Subaru vehicles.

49 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/07/2017

I purchased my car in July 2017 with 8800 miles. One week after delivery, my srs airbag system warning light came on. Per the owners manual, I took it in for service the next morning. The service dept. Said there is something faulty in the seat cushion & a new one is on order, but with no delivery time provided. It's already been two months since the order was placed - not sure what the real issue is. The warning light was random at first but, now it's on continuously. I just hope everyone is protected in my car, if I get in an accident. I have recently contacted Subaru's customer service to see if I can get any additional answers.

50 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Within the last year, I have experienced on three separate occasions, instances where the warning lights for various safety systems on my 2015 Subaru Forester will come on, indicating that the system has been disabled due to a malfunction. These lights always come on while driving, within 15 minutes of the car being started. The first two instances related to my air bags being turned off. When brought to a dealership, they had no explanation, and desired $70 to do an electrical assessment. When I brought it in for that, I was told that the car would have to be displaying the light at the time I brought it in, which the indicator light had turned off in between visits. Today, my abs, traction control, and incline assustance lights came on , indicating that those systems were disabled due to a malfunction. I brought it to my dealer, who told me that the air pressure in the tires was responsible, which ranged from 28lbs to 35 lbs. I had my car serviced at said dealership 2 months ago and the pressure was 35 lbs each. It was suggested to me that the cause of this discrepancy was "parking my car in the sun. " both computer-related problems apparently didn't leave a code to be read, according to the dealership. Any information was wiped when the car was turned off.

51 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/07/2013

The air bag warning light on my Subaru Forester is on yet again. It has done this several times. In reading online there are wired brought together at a connector that when both ends are pushed together then the airbag warning light will go out. Just using google online to search I have come across dozens of complaints. As this is a vehicle safety component, Subaru should repair this at no cost. Why Subaru could not have implemented a much more secure, reliable connector for such a critical safety subsystem is baffling as a more reliable connector should not cost but a couple of dollars more. Subaru should be repairing this at no charge to vehicle owners.

54 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/06/2008

Airbag warning light illuminates when drivers seat is moved. It appears that the electrical connector beneath the drivers seat is defective. I have found many complaints on the internet of this problem for the 2003 Subaru Forester. It is an obvious manufacturing defect. Why no recall? this is a serious problem with the cars srs.

55 Warning Light On problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 07/09/2008

The air bag warning light comes on intermittently when the drivers seat is moved. The connector wire under the seat must be cause but the dealer will charge $600. 00 for repair that they state may or may not fix this problem. This has been happening since the vehicle was one or two years old. A search of your records shows the exact problem in complaint #10196583, and is the likely cause of complaint #'s 10149296 and 10101059.

56 Warning Light On problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/03/2008

The air bag system will not function in the event of a collision due to an electrical connector malfunction. The connector is located under the driver's seat and is constantly stressed by seat movement or contact by the driver's feet. As a result, the air bag warning light is chronically but intermittently on. This has been a problem since first identified when this vehicle was approximately 1 year old. The repair of the connector was eventually ineffective. When the air bag warning light is on the air bags are inactive and will not deploy in the event of a collision.
