This car will not track straight. Nice firm steering, but simply will not track straight. There is no sense of center. If left alone, the steering will go slightly left, or slightly right, but never center. This is annoying fair weather, but outright dangerous in weather or wind. A major impact on vehicle stability and safety. This car is new, with 700 miles and has done this since day one. A Subaru dealer is checking the alignment, but they say the are aware of this issue, and have no answers. Even an alignment may not fix the issue. For the record, my level of car and mechanical knowledge is very high, so this is not a casual complaint. I have had the car for three weeks, not getting better. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

I was driving as I normally do and parked my car. When I go to start it again the power steering light on my dash board lights up and I can't move my steering wheel at all. Since I was unable to drive my car I had to get it towed to my mechanic where I was told that the steering shaft and motor where bad. In doing some research I found out that Subaru had this issues in since 2013 models.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized as the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed but could not determine the failure. The vehicle was later taken to autobahn Subaru of countryside dealership located at 6191 joliet rd, countryside, IL 60525 (708) 497-3999 where it was diagnosed that the abs and bdc control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000. VIN was not available. Aw.
I turned my car on one afternoon and found the power steering warning light stayed lit on the dashboard while car was stationary. When I tried to drive, I discovered the power steering was completely gone (I. E. , very hard to turn steering wheel). Had car towed to dealer, since only 1 year old. Dealer initially diagnosed the problem as a bad power steering control module. Three days later, after the part arrived, they installed it and found more error codes indicating a power supply error. More new parts were ordered that took another three days to arrive. Upon removal of power steering rack, technician found rodent damage on wiring to module on rack and pinion unit. My online research suggests rodents are attracted to soy wire insulation that is used in newer Subaru vehicles like mine. I am concerned other electrical systems can short out in the car at any time, since I cannot avoid squirrels as my car is parked in an open parking lot at home. My prior car (a 1999 Saturn sl2) was driven at the same intervals and parked at the same location for 5. 5 years without a similar problem.

The malfunction described in the following always occurs under the conditions described. This is a potentially life-threatening malfunction that in many cases would result in the total loss of steering control while the vehicle is in motion. 1. Car is parked, with the engine off. 2. Driver enters car, depresses clutch pedal, and releases parking brake. 3. Vehicle rolls (even slightly) before engine ignition is turned on and engine starts. 4. Engine starts and the steering malfunction light illuminates and the electric power steering servo powers on and actively locks the steering wheel in position, preventing the driver from turning the steering wheel. This condition continues to exist when the clutch is released and the vehicle is in motion under engine power. This condition lasts 4-10 seconds, and then the vehicle begins operating normally. In order to turn the wheel, the driver must overpower the power steering, something many drivers would be unable to do. This is not a case of "dry steer" (engine off steering) or attempting to steer without power steering. The vehicle can be steered (with increased steering effort, as expected) under "dry steer" (engine off) conditions, the first time this malfunction occurred, the vehicle was moving at approximately 10 mph before the driver (myself) noticed the inability to steer. I narrowly missed crashing into a curb/divider by performing a "panic stop" with the brakes. I was unable to steer to avoid the curb, I was forced to come to a rapid stop using the brakes.
