Auto on-off function shuts off engine when vehicle stops in traffic for any reason. The engine is to restart when driver steps on accelerator. . . However this is not always the case. Many times the engine fails to start which causes the driver to believe the accelerator needs more pressure. When the engine does finally start the car leaps forward since it is still in forward gear. This forward leap is very dangerous since ithe leap is totally unexpected. Most drivers turn off this function however the driver turn off selection is voided once the car is turned off. The driver must remember to cancel this auro-off function every time the car is started Subaru has received many complaints about this function and has decided to relocate the off-on icon to a front screen rather than the previous 3rd screen. The correct fix would seem to be once the driver selects to shut off this function it should not override the off selection unless initated by the driver. Once I shut off my radio it stays off until tirned on again. Subaru service program wri-20 janurary 2021.

My vehicle has had 4 of 6 ignition could fail due to excessive corrosion within a span of months. Failure has resulted in sudden engine failure and hesitations causing the vehicle to lose power unpredictably and forced us to pull over. Subaru of America has refused to repair these components because they are beyond the 3 year warranty period. It is unlikely that four components would all fail similarly without a serious defect in the parts or a design flaw in the automobile. There were two occurrences of this failure- one coil failed in September 2014 and three more failed in December 2015.

The contact owns a 2005 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that the engine failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they were told that the banjo filters screen failed and sent shards of metal through the engine. The dealer told the contact that in 2007, the vehicle was serviced because of the failure and the engine was previously rebuilt. The contact stated that the information was not listed on the vehicle history report. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage and current mileage was 62,000.

In June of 2009 my husband and I purchased a 2009 v6 Subaru Outback (VIN [xxx]) from manchester Subaru in manchester, nh for $29,843. 00. In December of 2010, with approximately 30,000 miles on the car and still under warranty the engine failed without warning, leaving us stranded, once again, this time with our now 2 year old and 4 month old. The car momentarily raced while driving and the rpm indicator rose unexpectedly to the red zone for a brief time. No indicator lights turned on until the engine had already failed. We had the car towed to manchester Subaru where they stated they found metallic particles in the oil. We were asked to provide oil change receipts, which we did provide, as my husband regularly changed the oil himself. It took a month for a decision to be made as to whether or not the engine repair would be covered by the warranty and we were without a car for this entire time. We repeatedly asked for a loaner car, were told we would get one, but never did. Subaru America finally decided that they would split the cost with us and that we would be responsible for paying $5,485. 00. This was due to the fact that according to Subaru, we did not put enough oil in the car as it required 5. 8 quarts and we put in 5 quarts. We had just changed the oil in the car in October 2010 and it was less than 1 quart low at the time of the engine failure. We had checked the oil level every time when changing the oil and the dipstick indicated that level was sufficient, giving us no indication that the oil level was low. There was never any indication of low oil pressure at any time during the life of the vehicle. The next day, my husband spoke to the service department at manchester Subaru. They indicated that the v6 Outback has a very sensitive engine and if the oil is just a little bit low, it can cause the engine to fail. The v4 model would have also given a low oil pressure indicator light, which the v6 model does not do this. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Catastrophic failure of a major engine component which is considerably outside the expected statistical failure rate(based on my research of complaints by other purchasers of this model Subaru automobile), resulting in significant costs to repair. At approximately 56000 miles the head gaskets on my 1998 Subaru Outback with the 2. 5l engine failed. The cost to repair was $ 1880. 00. I contacted Subaru in an effort to get them to absorb at least part of the cost since the car was well within the mileage warranty period, but was slightly outside the time warranty. Their response was sorry tough luck. I indicated to Subaru that a component of this nature with such a high failure rate, was obviously due to a significant design or manufacturing defect. Their response was, again, they were not goint to do anything about it. Someone needs to put pressure on Subaru to make this a recall item.
