1 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

I took my vehicle to the Subaru in missoula, mt in October of 2019 to fix the takata air bag recall. In July of 2019 I received a recall for the exact same problem. I called the number on the recall notice 855-371-5406. I was informed that Subaru had put in the same non-working, unsafe parts that were in the airbag prior to the 2019 recall. Subaru did this to buy time to get the parts needed to actually fix the problem in stock. Takata told me this. For nearly a year I have been driving around thinking that my passenger side airbag was safe. Subaru will not address this but they do want to inconvenience their customers a second time. Subaru customers should have been informed. Instead, Subaru was deceitful and now intend to steal more time from the customers to fix this problem that they said was life threatening. .

2 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 12/30/2019

Over the last year, this vehicle has had two distinct takata airbag recalls. I have received notices from our dealership and from Subaru corporate, attached. I am living in bosnia as a us diplomat. There is not a Subaru dealership in this country. I accomplished the last recall, with significant logistical difficulty, with the help of the Subaru dealership in croatia. However, there is a current open recall for the passenger-side airbag (recall id btm3-efx). Despite multiple emails to the dealer (byer Subaru in alexandria, va) where we purchased the car and to my contacts in croatia, I have not received any assistance. The dealership in croatia was, supposedly, contacting Subaru italia, but to date, I have not made any progress in resolving this recall. I very much need guidance as this is a family car and, according to the recall notices, this is a significant safety issue. When I contacted Subaru corporate in the past, I was advised that, because the car was overseas, they believed they were absolved of any responsibility, a ridiculous claim.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

"takata recall" called dealer-(gustman Subaru, appleton, WI) tried to make early appointment to replace passenger side air bag. Dealer is swamped and my scheduled appointment is for September 25, 2019, which is a long way off from today March 18, 2019. Want to make sure someone knows about the delay if something happens to me or my family. Consider this situation unacceptable!!!!!.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

Takata recall I received notice of the recall on 3/15 and called for an appointment today (3/18). I was told the first appointment is 6/11-3 months out. How am I to drive a vehicle with my wife and kids if we cannot use the passenger seat for 3 months-absurd. The notice says how dangerous it could be if the passenger side airbag inflates- what does Subaru expect its owners to do for 3 months while we wait? my dealer is (xxxx) in madison WI. (xxxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

We got a recall notice on Friday, March 15, 2018 concerning the passenger side airbag that said no one should ride in that seat until fixed. We immediately callled fitgerald Subaru in rockville and were told they didn't have the proper parts and we could not schedule a time until may! this is absurd to issue a safety recall and not be able to fix it. Recall notice txb18; NHTSA 19v008.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

I called the same day I received a recall notice for the passenger-side airbag for my car and my Subaru dealership will not be able to fix this issue for over 5 months. Given the essential nature of this recall, this should not be something that we should have to live with for such a long time, Subaru should be required to provide this service in a much timelier manner for life and death fixes like a severe airbag defect.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Takata recall: the passenger side air bag needs to be replaced. Subaru have told me that they do not have the parts needed for this recall. My wife and I are over seventy and I need to use this vehicle with her in the passenger seat. If replacement is currently impossible, Subaru needs to provide me with a loaner.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

We have received notice over a month ago that the passenger side airbag is defective and that no one should ride in seat. Unfortunately, the Subaru is our only car and we have 2 carseats in the back so if we are driving as a family, which we do on a daily basiss, someone has to sit in the front. We called teh Subaru to get it fixed and we were told it was on backorder for an unknown period of time. How are we risking our safety while we wait for this part? I am desiring to be compensated fro this problem because I have received no communication from Subaru about how they will fix this problem > I can't continue to wait and drive on the highway while I worry about teh safety of another adult in teh car knowing that this problem exists.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

When my wife sits in the passenger seat the majority of the time the passenger side air bag will not be turned on. My wife is roughly 5'2" and 120 lbs. Dealer claims there is nothing wrong but that the sensors can be overly sensitive with smaller people. This is a safety issue as the bag will not deploy in an accident if it is off.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

The passenger side airbag fails to activate or cycles on and off while the adult passenger remains seated in the proper position. Dealer claims no defects detected yet is unable to resolve the problem. Manufacturer representative is also unable to provide any assistance in the resolution of the problem even to the point of not acknowledging that a problem exists. I feel this is a serious safety issue as you cannot rely on whether or not the airbag will be properly activated or even deploy in the event of an accident.

18 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/06/2010

The passenger side airbag of our 2010 Subaru Outback will intermittently turn off when there is an adult in the passenger seat. We've brought the car to two Subaru dealers and they both have told us there's nothing they can do unless the system is broken when we bring the car to the shop because the car doesn't show a fault code.

Driver side impact to 07 Subaru Outback damaged frame, insurance totaled vehicle, seatbelt did not hold driver in seat and none of the airbags deployed resulting in permanent injuries to neck and lower back as well as head hitting on driver side from being rag dolled. I believe if front airbag deployed or seatbelt locked, the injuries would have been less severe.

20 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that when driving on the highway at 65 mph, the steering wheel began to shake violently. The vehicle also pulled from left to the right no matter what speed. The contact also stated that the front passenger side air bag off light was always illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where it was at the time of the complaint, awaiting a response from the manufacturer. This visit would be the fourth time the vehicle was taken to the dealership and had been kept for a long period of time. The current and failure mileages were approximately 10,000.

21 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

My wife and I own a 2010 Subaru Outback. The passenger side air bag does not function properly or has a faulty design. The weight sensor is supposed to turn on the air bag when anyone over 100 pounds sits in the seat. My wife weighs 130 pounds. The air bag does not become active more than 50% of the time when she is sitting in the seat. Subaru tells us that the sensor is functioning properly and is calibrated correctly, yet my wife continues to be unprotected more than half of the time. They offer no resolution to the problem other than recommending that she sit upright in the seat. The 2010 Outback is all new this year and I believe that this air bag design is a flaw with catastrophic potential. This is a huge safety risk for people in or near this weight range. The air bag is supposed to come on for anyone over 100 pounds, but in reality isn't reliably engaging unless you are about 150 pounds or more. Our local dealer has admitted to several complaints for the same issue. The internet also reveals others having the same problem. Subaru needs to investigate the problem and probably initiate a recall in order to replace the sensor threshold with a lower weight limit so average size people will be protected. This top safety pick vehicle has a major safety issue.

22 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the passenger side air bag did not activate when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer twice but the failure could not be diagnosed. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the seats were set to activate the air bags at 125 lbs. The failure mileage was 200.

23 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 Subaru Outback

25 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/23/2003

My 2004 Subaru Outback comes equipped with front side airbags. With only 900 miles on my car, I was "t-boned" by a Ford explorer under full acceleration. We were struck on the drivers side with enough impact to cause my wife, in the passenger seat, to hit her head on the passenger side door post causing a concussion. Subaru claims that the side airbags performed correctly by not deploying. Total damage to date including drive train replacement parts is $9000. It is my understanding that the NHTSA has not tested the side impact bags on the Subaru models. If that is true, how can Subaru claim that the bags responded correctly?.
