Wife had an accident where she pulled in front of large f350 truck, hit on passenger side. She was going 15 mph, and truck was going 50-60 mph. The side curtain and front airbag on passenger side deployed. Her car also hit a sign and tree, caving in the front of vehicle. Her driver's side airbags did not deploy and she was severely injured and spent 8 days in hospital. Lost partial dentures, another tooth and bent her implant when her face hit steering wheel. She had about 150 stitches to face and has permanent scaring to face as a result of the failure of airbag to deploy. She was wearing seat belt and has bruises to show for it. The driver's side airbag should have deployed. Airbag is made by takata. Could not find any open recalls on airbag. Initial impact was to right side, and then front of her 2016 Subaru Outback struck tree and sign. Airbag should have deployed.

I bought the 2007 Subaru Outback ll bean new. This is the second time that the airbag light goes on and off intermittently. The first time I replaced the overhead circuit board. This time I am having trouble finding one. The solder joints in the circuit board are faulty, causing loose connections. This is a dangerous situation that has been reported to NHTSA many times by other owners. When the air bag light is on, the air bags will not deploy. Some people have been seriously injured because of this. There should be a recall on this problem. There is currently a second recall on the air bags themselves, but not on the circuit board. How many accidents does there have to be for you to demand a recall on this problem?.

As part of the takata recall, we had the airbags on our 2014 Subaru Outback replaced by the dealer on may 8, 2019. On may 22, 2019, we were sitting at a city stoplight when we were hit head on by another driver going 40-50 mph. In spite of a direct hit to the front airbag sensors, the airbags did not deploy on our 2014 Subaru Outback. When we notified the dealer who did the replacement of the failed airbags, they refused to comment.
While driving the airbag light comes on intermittently. If car is turned off and restarted it generally stays off. Research states that the air bags will not deploy if this light is on when an accident. This appears to be due to part needing to be soldered to fix the problem. Subaru should recall the vehicles involved. This is happening to many cars.

Passenger airbag light and warning tone sound when occupant is in seat and car is moving. Been to the dealer 6 times. The seat belt latch was replaced, occupant detection sensor replaced, seat was replaced. Sensors recalibrated by dealer. Problem still persists and we're now told it can't be fixed. Dealer will not say if the airbags will or will not deploy in an accident. Car is essentially undriveable as the warning tone is constant and passenger restraint and safety system is compromised.
My vehicle has a problem with an intermittent airbag light illuminating, indicating an issue with the airbag system. Specifically in my case, it indicates that the overhead airbag indicator system is in a fault state. This is extremely common in this vehicle and age, with many other owners reporting the same issue with no recall action from Subaru. This is a major safety issue with this car if not addressed and can result in the airbags not deploying in the event of a crash. Cost for an owner to repair (and in my case) is $300+ and should be covered by Subaru.

Tl the contact owned a 2018 Subaru Outback. While driving 35 mph, the contact's vehicle attempted to merge into an open lane and was struck by another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The contact was not injured. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed by allstate insurance to an open lot where it was deemed a total loss. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised him to file a complaint with the insurance company. The failure mileage was 10,300.
My husband was driving on a public street at approximately 35 mph when another car ran a red light and drove out in front of him. He hit her broadside. He was transported to the hospital with a cracked sternum. The car was damaged so severely it was totaled by our insurance company. The air bag did not deploy, hence the cracked sternum from the seat belt. I believe the air bag should have deployed which would have lessened the impact against the seat belt. I have a police report, pictures of the car and hospital reports if they are needed.

When car is running, the red aiir bag warning light on dashboard console stays on. A Subaru dealer mentioned the control module (circuit board) in the overhead compartment console would have to be replaced. I have found that the soldering on the circuit board is flimsy and prone to cracking. Apparently there is a danger that the air bags will not deploy if the warning light is on. There are a number of online forums that detail others having the same issue. The forums recommended fix is to apply solder. . Read more...
My friends' son and wife had a crash on I 55 north near meadowbrook road on January 28, 2018. The car hit a highway barrier and spun around and resulted in an extreme fire after impact and the side airbag, nor the side curtain airbag did not deploy on drivers' side. The insurance company did not get consent from my friend to take it from the towed destination to another destination. She has yet to receive information regarding her claim status which she was informed of only when she initiated the call. Insurance adjuster inquired who and why someone else wanted to look at car when telling adjuster she would be having a third party to view her wrecked car. As of to date February 6, 2018, she has not received any call from insurance company? the airbags (side seat airbag and side curtain airbag and the extreme intensity of the fire are of major concern) especially not deploying on her sons' side of the car. Both son and daughter-in-law were transported to the university of mississippi medical center emergency room by way of ambulance but were discharge that next morning, but continue to have ptsd like symptoms and also injuries that linger on. I was in an accident where the other driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic at an intersection and slammed into my drivers side door. My airbags failed to deploy during the accident.
Unexpected acceleration after parking, jump curb into tree, causing $7,000 in damage. Air bags did not deploy, both myself and passenger hit knees on dash, even with our seat belts still on. Had other computer issues earlier that day, back up sensors didn't work while backing car right behind mine. Car has now been at Subaru for a month, waiting for engineers results after their inspection 2/14/2018.

The contact owned a 2015 Subaru Outback. While driving approximately 28 mph, the contact fell sleep and struck a guardrail head on. The front air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The insurance company towed the vehicle to their lot and declared it destroyed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 1-286-495891121. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
This concerns a 2015 Subaru Outback limited 6 cylinder. At approx 21,000 mi I was slowing to speed to park in a public parking space on a city street and the Outback sudden acceleration. The Outback hit a city metal post/sign, jumped the curb and collided with a building and damaging a store front with great force. The airbags did not deploy and the automatic collision prevention failed to work. Once before the car had an acceleration surge while driving a public city street at low speed but did not hit anything. Prior to the accident I've also experienced slight hesitation in acceleration when I first accelerate from a stationary position and probably unrelated, the gear shift often gets stuck in park and I have to use force the gear shift to reverse. Having trouble with turning neck from side to side and need to see doctor for evaluation so, not sure if this is considered injury?.
Our 2011 Outback wagon was hit on the driver's side by a bus. It was totaled. The side airbag did not deploy. The driver sustained a serious head injury.
Upon impact, in an accident that occurred on August 20, 2017 with my 2017 Subaru Outback, the airbags did not deploy. The auto body repair specialist examined the car, & the angle in which impact occurred and believes the airbags should have in fact, deployed. I also had the insurance adjuster from usaa look at the photographs from the accident. His professional opinion was also that the airbags should have deployed. The other vehicle involved had their airbags deploy. Any additional information or photos that are needed can be received by contacting jake at 706-258-2950 my claim number at usaa for this accident is 4790053-9 my claim adjuster is chris james at extension 44727.
On 8 June 2017 I had just pulled into a parking spot in front of a medical suite when my leased three month old 2017 Subaru Outback with 1,000 miles suddenly had an unintended acceleration episode jumping the curb and crashing into a brick wall and suite door after displacing a threshold column by two inches. The airbag did not deploy, the "eyesight" function did not stop the vehicle, the seat belt did not restrain me and my chest slammed into the steering wheel, my knees crashed into the dashboard. On 2 June, less than a week earlier, the car had done the same unintended acceleration while backing out of a parking spot, but nothing was hit at that time. After the initial ambulance er visit, plus two more, my physical injuries consisting of aches and pains, bruises, xrays, iv treatment for persistent headache after the accident, are insignificant compared to the mental and emotional damage. Not to mention the economic burden and frustrating situation this leaves me in. I contacted the dealership and sent in pictures of the vehicles and damaged building. They in turn referred my complaint to Subaru of America who was very diligent in performing an investigation and keeping me updated with the procedure. However, almost two months after the accident, Subaru of America claims their results indicate "misapplication of throttle and break" clearly putting the blame on me, without mentioning anything about the first incident, and the lack of response of the safety features of the vehicle during the accident. There are at least 34 reports of similar accidents due to unintended acceleration of Outback vehicles, and at least 70 related to the Subaru forester on carproblemzoo. Com since 2000. I now find myself with a beautiful brand new vehicle that I will pay the lease for, but don't feel comfortable driving out of fear that the unintended acceleration will reoccur.
The contact owned a 2017 Subaru Outback. While driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The front end was severely damaged and the vehicle was destroyed; however, the air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The cause of the failure was not determined. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 4,000.
Tl- takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph on an intersection, another vehicle came across at a high rate of speed and crashed into the front drivers side of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained pains to the neck, chin and collar bone due to no air bag deployment. The contact was also receiving further medical treatment. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a yard by the insurance company to further inspect the vehicle. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v014000 (air bags) but was not aware of the recall and the contact was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting to determine if they may be able to investigate why the air bags failed to deploy. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000. Parts distribution disconnect. Dyd.

The contact owns a 2017 Subaru Outback. While driving 55 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,360.
My passenger side tanaka airbag was replaced in April. Within six months of this recall, my passenger side airbag indicator's buzzer and light (error code 26) continue to indicate a passenger in the seat without a passenger present. I feel this is a safety issue because I have been told by my Subaru mechanic that the "passenger airbag may or may not deploy". I have found various blogs and forums indicating that I am one of hundreds to thousands that have this issue. I feel as though this safety issue should not be fixed at the financial burden of the consumer.

The contact owns a 2016 Subaru Outback. While the vehicle was secured in park with the emergency brake engaged, the vehicle lunged forward independently when the brake was released. The contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The driver then shifted into reverse and the vehicle accelerated independently in reverse. The driver shifted into drive and the vehicle independently accelerated forward again and crashed into the side of a building. The vehicle jumped a curb and crashed into a tree coming to a stop. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer; however, a diagnostic test showed no fault codes. The approximate failure mileage was 1,100.
My 2008 Subaru Outback was in for routine maintenance when the dealer stated a trouble code was being produced by my vehicle. The specific code was 26. I was told this indicated a fault with the passenger side airbag and that it could fail to deploy in the event of an accident. Additionally, they stated that this code would have prevented my car from passing the annual massachusetts safety inspection and required a repair by replacing the overhead module for a total cost of $360. I find it unacceptable that a safety related issue such as a failure of the passenger air bag to deploy would result in the consumer having to pay the cost of repair.
The airbag light came on without any crash or front end impact. The diagnostic code indicates that it is the passenger air bag module. It is a hard fault since it is unable to be cleared. According to my research this is a well known problem that has not been addressed by Subaru. This is my daughter's car. According to technician, this is an unsafe condition in which the airbags will not deploy.
Airbag light is on due to passenger on/off overhead light not functioning properly. It cannot register whether or not there is a passenger in the car, and therefor the airbag light is on. I know that the airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident with the light on.

The airbag light on the front dash comes on without any crash or front end impact. My vehicle has 45k miles on it. According to my research, this is a well known problem that has not been addressed by Subaru. The Subaru dealer diagnoses this as a code 26 which requires the overhead console to be replaced at a cost of about $400. This is an unsafe condition in which the airbags will not deploy in an accident unless the overhead console is replaced. A safety recall seems warranted given the number of Subaru consumers experiencing this problem, and the compromise in safety that could result from neglecting to get it replaced.
Takata recall this may pertain to the takata air bag recall. My wife and I were in a "t-bone" type collision at ~45 mph and the driver and passenger airbags failed to deploy in our 2003 Outback. When I check the VIN I did not see any open recalls nor did I ever receive any recall notifications for the car.

Airbag sensor has been on and off for some time, but now bleeps almost continually. We took it to the local Subaru dealer (st. Johnsbury, vt) and for approx. $280 they tried to fix it. When this did not work, they said we need to came back and pay a further $500++ to fix this. I understand this is a serious safety issue as the airbag will not deploy. Vehicle has never been in an accident. I have read on-line that the problem is faulty soldering of the overhead chip for the airbags. $780++ seems like a big expense for a safety item that should have a longer life span.
Airbag warning light illuminated and remained illuminated after bit test completed on engine start. Owners manual states an illuminated airbag warning light could mean the airbag system will not deploy or perform as designed in the event of an accident. I believe this is result of a Subaru design flaw that Subaru needs to address and correct via recall.
