Traffic stopped abruptly and my car (Subaru Outback) came to a stop. I was rear-ended by a semi (speed unknown but did significant damage to my vehicle) that pushed me into the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle in front of me was then pushed into another vehicle. The vehicle directly in front of me (Ford free star)had its air bag deploy. My air bag did not deploy and my head ended up hitting the steering wheel. I was diagnosed with a concussion. I am wondering if my air bag should have deployed in this type of situation?.

Driver's airbag light is constantly on on the dashboard. This will cause airbags to not deploy during a collision. A brief internet search reveals the same issue is ongoing for many 2007 Subaru Outback models. It is believed to be due to faulty soldering of the overhead chip for the airbags. This should be considered as an extremely serious safety incident.

A car stopped in front of me suddenly for a pedestrian, and I rear ended it. My airbag did not deploy and I ended up with a concussion. Having a lot of trouble thinking and sleeping - and finals are next week!.
Air bag warning light intermittently turns on. Likely due to a faulty electrical connection behind the map light console. Airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident! this is an incredibly common problem and Subaru refuses to address it.

Air bag light intermittently comes on while driving and stays on. I notice this more in the early morning when it's cold but it's been happening on a more frequent basis now. I've been told the airbags would not deploy in an accident if the light is on. This is a serious safety issue that Subaru is fully aware of.
Airbag light is intermittently coming on while driving. Checked online and found out this is a very common problem. When light is on vehicle air bags will not deploy in an accident. I don't understand why this problem was not handled by Subaru as a voluntary recall. This is a serious safety issue.
The airbag light on the dashboard came on. I also noticed the light that should have indicated that the passenger airbag was off was not lit. The airbags will not deploy when airbag light is on. After researching, I found several people with the exact problem and that it is related to faulty wiring in overhead map light console that contains the passenger airbag indicators. I purchase a new light console and the problem was fixed. This is a safety issue because the airbags won't deploy and should be fixed by the manufacturer.
Traveling from my home to denver, CO I noticed the 'air bag warning light' come on. This has occurred on several occasions. I called the auto nation Subaru dealer to try and get an appointment. The service rep said they were full for the day. He asked me what the issue was and I told him about the 'air bag warning light' coming on. Moreover, he said that the air bag would not function with the warning icon on. He then asked me if I may have placed my cell phone in the passenger seat? I told him that I had indeed placed my cell phone in the passenger seat. The service rep added further that my cell phone may be interfering with the electronics of the air bag warning system. This sounded very odd to me. This phenomena is very disconcerting as it could readily result in serious injury if the air bag should fail to deploy in a head on collision. I also spoke to a service tech at another Subaru outlet who told me that he had heard of this odd cell phone/air bag situation. As this air bag phenomena that is occurring in my vehicle is not an isolated situation, I feel that this issue should be addressed and repaired immediately.

Was driving on what appeared to be a clear, clean road at about 8 am the day after a snowstorm. My car started skidding off to the right side of the highway, when trying to turn wheel towards the left to straighten the car out, the car then started spinning around 360 degrees a few times until the car then rolled over to the left down the 100 foot ditch about 3 or 4 rolls before stopping. The drivers side airbag never deployed despite severe frontal and side damage. The car was totaled by the insurance company. I still have no explanation as to why this all happened. In searching the internet for answers, I found 2 recalls one dated 6/24/2010 which could involve the airbag, and one dated 5/11/2010 which involved the cvt cooler hose leading to a crash. If something failed in the car leading to my crash, I have the right to know. I have some injuries and am still not back to work. Are there any other cases similar to mine?.

Refer to NHTSA complaint 10558038 vehicle was driven a couple of times on good dry roads after December complaint about rear end stability and traction problems. On Jan 29th, mid morning driver was driving with 1 passenger on a slightly snow covered gravel road. Vehicle in front of him turned off and when he accelerated to approximately 35 mph with slight throttle pressure, he stated "the car started driving itself and became totally uncontrollable. " he said "it spun around one way then the other" before going through a ditch, running through a fence and into a railroad tie post. He said that he had tried every thing possible to avoid the crash and could not figure out what had happened. This is the same driver in previous complaint that is a ex-race car driver, has had numerous spin outs at high speeds on the track and is also a professional truck driver. He drove an old 2 wheel drive pickup truck later that day under worse road and weather conditions and did not have any problems. The car was drivable to get it home. On the way to the body shop, 40 mph it again started swaying back and forth erratically when he drove over a patch of ice on the road. The car is at the body shop with over $3000 damage. Bags did not deploy.
My Subaru was hit head on driver's side by another car going 35-40 mph. My Subaru's airbags did not deploy. Extensive damage in 13k range to frame and left front of car. I had extensive damage to right hand and shoulder in attempt to brace myself. Other car's airbags deployed. Other driver fled scene. Other car's insured, called car in, as stolen to police. Other party's insurance is denying coverage for accident to me, as driver/insured lied to police. . . . . Updated 08/05/14 updated 08/19/2014.
I was traveling west bound in the furthest right hand lane at approximately 45-mph on los angeles Ave. On 10/31/13 in moorpark, CA at approximately 11:30 a. M. On Thursday morning. A full-size Ford f150 pickup truck failed to yield while making a left turn into the adjacent shopping center. He was turning left out of a median divider in the center of a four-lane highway. There is no marked signs or lights to make a left turn there, but you must yield to oncoming traffic on la Ave. From the broken yellow lined center divider. I hit the side of the truck causing the truck to spin around with the force of the impact. My air bags failed to deploy even though the impact of the crash was significant, the whole front end of my car was severely damaged, and the crash was essentially head-on. I suffered a acute cervical strain, and I went to the hospital the day after with pain. I am in the process of getting further testing to see the severity of my injuries. My two-year old daughter was in her britax car seat in the passenger side back seat, and luckily she was unharmed in the incident. I am very shocked that the air bags did not deploy, and I feel like this is a major safety concern that should be investigated.

Was involved in a head on collision and my air bags did not deploy. I've read online after the accident others have experienced the same thing. I could of been killed if I was driving any faster.
Traveling on icy road approx. 20mph or less in 2010 Outback 3. 6 ltd. Very accustomed to driving severe mountain winter conditions & 8th Subaru among family members. Seatbelt, shoulder restraint in place on driver. Oncoming driver in mid-size to large truck lost control at high speed, crossed center line and impacted Subaru head-on, offset to left side of Outback & 2010 Outback was totaled. Subaru airbags did not deploy. Impact into front left side, crumpled hood up to windshield, which shattered. His hood was inside Subaru engine compartment, remained under Subaru hood along with other parts of his vehicle after vehicles were towed. Subaru radiator was pushed in at approx 45 degree angle, left wheel bent inwards, left front bumper gone back to tire and much more damage. His airbags deployed and Subaru's did not. Subaru driver hit head, knees, shins on interior parts of Subaru: black eye, forehead hematoma, indentation & scraped, knees/shins bruised and scraped plus back/neck plus more scrapes/bruises and concussion. Thankful that his truck stopped up against driver side doorpost and didn't encroach into driver compartment but unbelievable that Subaru airbags didn't deploy. 5'6" & approx. 135 pounds. First of our Subarus to be in a crash and had no idea airbags wouldn't deploy.
The vehicle in question was moving at about 35 mph when its front end collided with the side of a car moving slowly across its path. The driver's seatbelt worked properly. The air bag did not deploy.

I believe my anti-lock brakes malfunctioned on my 2011 Subaru Outback and if this is the case then someone in auto safety data collection needs to know about it. I was driving down an off ramp during snowy conditions. I applied my brakes at around 35 mph and they abruptly locked up. There was no shutter/shimmer effect that I might expect with anti-lock brakes as they go on and off while trying to grip the road. I applied them again with the same jolt followed by sliding. I tried this several times as I approached the intersection. Though the long off ramp did slow me down, at about 15 mph (I think) I plowed the left front of my car into the Ford ranger in front of me. This impressively crushed the left front side of my car and my air bags did not deploy. The point of impact was the left side of the front bumper, but it hit at the upper 2-3 inches of the bumper. I'm not sure if the airbags should have deployed with this type of impact, but if they were supposed to deploy then someone needs to know about it too.
The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, another vehicle crashed into the contact's vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The entire front end of the vehicle sustained extensive damage, causing injuries to the contact's chest. The contact was transported to the hospital via ambulance. The police were notified and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer to have the air bag failure diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 12,000.
I was involved in a head-on collision, traveling at 40 mph and the vehicles airbags failed to deploy.
Problem 1: experienced rear wiper (station wagon) not working. Car still under warranty, took it to the dealer and was told the wiring harness that goes through the hinge area was broken. It was repaired. Now the car has 72,000 miles and I am having rear wiper problems again as well as the rear door not locking. Wires frayed and broken again. This is a known issue both with Subaru and on the forums on the web. This is a poor design and possibly dangerous as it can cause the rear lights to fail. Failure time frame was almost double mileage from the previous failure. (35,251 - 72,000). Problem 2: air bag light keeps coming on. Have had it to the mechanic several times to be checked out and reset. This is also a known problem with Subaru and on the web forums. This is a serious safety issue as the air bags could fail to deploy. Subaru may say the airbags are a "secondary" safety feature, but to me they are extremely important. Airbag deployment can be the difference between life and death in an accident. Please investigate!.

The driver side airbag system sometimes is not active upon starting vehicle. This is indicated by the airbag warning light which is illuminated. The light continues to stay illuminated when the vehicle is driven. The dealer tells me that in this situation (airbag warning light illuminated) the airbag will not deploy in an accident. Numerous posts on the internet confirm this. I consider this a very dangerous and common situation that should be remedied by Subaru through a recall.
The contact owned a 2007 Subaru Outback. While driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle was involved in a crash in which the air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed but the driver was injured. The vehicle was not moved from the location of the crash and was not examined for the cause of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 39,000.
2011 Subaru Outback - passenger airbag indicating "off", not turning on when 140lb person is in the seat. Subaru of America states that this is normal and there is no fix. Subaru dealer where I purchased the car new does not agree and states something is wrong. He has another owner with the same problem. Passenger airbag will not deploy in and accident with a 140lb person in the seat!.
Air bag light remained on. When analyzed, the steering roll connector failed test. Parts had to be replaced. Air bag will not deploy without replacement parts according to service dept. This is fairly expensive $387 and I suspect some people with same problem will not fix.
I was involved in an intersection accident where my vehicle hit the other car. The impact was quite sever and the damage was about $11,000. However, the air bag did not deploy and I hit my head on the windshield. I reported this to the manufacturer so that any defect that may have caused the failure might be discovered and their action might prevent worse injury to the next person. However, they seem to be totally uninterested and told me to call my insurance company.
The contact owned a 2005 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that the brakes failed to engage and the vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire. The air bags did not deploy. Four people were injured and police and fire reports were filed. A month prior to the accident, the vehicle was inspected and no failures were found. The vehicle was inspected after the crash and it was discovered that the tumbler system was defective. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were unknown. Updated 7/16/10

Driver lost control of vehicle. Vehicle struck stationary object at aprox. 15 mph. Airbag failed to deploy. Significant front end and undercarriage damage.
When driving at low speeds, the vehicle surged forward. This caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle and hit a light pole head on. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the insurance company's designated repair facility. This was quickly followed by 2-3 more accelerations in which the vehicle gained speed each time. The vehicle felt as if it were being shifted into the next gear.
When hit on their front left side of the vehicle the air bag did not deploy causing minor injuries to the consumer.
