Subaru Outback owners have reported 5 problems related to vehicle overheat (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Subaru is selling new vehicles with inadequate amounts of coolant in the engines cooling system. This has caused an immediate need for coolant being added as residual air in the system in expelled to the reservoir. If a customer follows Subarus guidance for time/mileage to first inspection they risk having the car overheat/stall while driving potentially cause bodily and/or property damage. I brought this issue up with multiple dealers with no resolution.

While driving vehicle overheated. This happened three times. When taken to get serviced the third time it was determined that it was due to the head gasket.

Car overheated. Towed to garage. They replaced thermostat and tested. Ran ok for about 20 miles. Overheated again. Towed to garage. Now the diagnosis is that I need a new head gasket. This car has less than 90,000 miles and has been maintained flawlessly.
Problem started when driving to minnesota from California. Lower thermostat went out and car over heated, replaced. Lower thermostat went out again. Car still heating up funny, dealer says nothing wrong. Turns out head gasket gone. Next the engine was found to have a crack, they put in new block and gave us an extended warranty. Now less then a year later car overheats again. Subaru seems to be doing nothing to help.
