I have had the transmission range sensor replaced on my 2008 Suzuki Forenza twice already and it has malfunctioned again. When it malfunctions, my car jerks heavily when changing gears, and it is an automatic engine. The rpms will not exceed 3000, the check engine light comes on, and "hold" flashes in the dash. The car accelerates very slowly shudders above 50 mph. The speedometer has dropped to zero while I have been driving on the highway, so I cannot tell how fast I am going.

I bought my car used and it has a new tranny, cv axles and everything the only thing original is the engine. So I have already had to replace the O2 sensors twice at $60 each. I have had to replace the tps sensor, thermostat and housing, ignition coil, battery, starter, fuel pump and alternator. All because I kept getting the check engine lights on and throwing coding all over the place. And the car still stalls when I stop at a stop light and runs and idles rough. I have spent over $1500 fix this problem and it still exists I did all the work myself I have worked on cars my whole life and am a mechinic. Every mechanic I take it to can bot find the problem and Suzuki can't give an answer to the problem and I don't know what to do.

The check engine light came on when putting my car into reverse. The car would jump whenever putting it in reverse or drive. I had a scanner put on it and the codes came out to be the transmission range sensor. The check enging light will continue to go on and off depending on how much I drive it. I am being told this is not under the power train warranty. This needs to be as it is affecting the power train.

Every time I change gears, my car thunks under the hood and my check engine light is continuously on. A machine was hooked up to my car and it reads that there is a bad transmission range sensor. I've done my research, and notice an unbelievable amount of complaints due to the same issue/part. When this happens in my vehicle, it drives very poorly and feels like it cannot shift into the correct gear. This is unsafe.
2008 Suzuki Forenza. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle stalls while driving. The consumer stated the vehicle would stall after driving 5-10 miles, once he started to slow down. The consumer was able to re-start the vehicle. Also, the check engine light illuminated.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission range sensor would need to be replaced. The contact stated that the transmission range sensor had been replaced twice prior to the recent failure. The failure was recurring without a permanent remedy however, the part was replaced a third time. The failure and current mileage was 69,028. Kmj.
My check engine light came on. I went to auto zone and was told it was the transmission sensor. After some research, we discovered this problem runs rampant on 2006 Suzuki Forenza models. We took it to the dealership and the manager over parts and service changed the sensor for us. However, the connector it plugs into was broken and he would look for a used one, as buying a new one means buying a whole new engine harness ($800-$900). Anytime I look up my make and model this is all anyone has to say and Suzuki will do nothing about it except charge more money to keep trying to fix it. They should be forced to recall all of these vehicles until the problem is resolved.

While sitting at a stop sign, I decided I was a little to far into the road. I shifted into reverse and noticed it shifted really hard. I put it into drive and pulled out onto the road - again it shifted hard. When trying to speed up, the car wouldn't shift out of 1st gear, the check engine light came on and I couldn't speed up. I've been told it is a bad transmission range sensor.
My check engine light came on to find that my transmission switch had gone bad causing it not to shift correctly. . . . Thinking no big deal, I took it to my mechanic. He said these transmissions were known as throw away transmissions. I came home and googled my problem to find numerous lower mileage Suzuki Forenzas with the same issue, some almost causing accidents. Please consider a mandatory recall on this part.

I am thinking our transmission range sensor went out on our 2008 Suzuki Forenza with over 70,000 miles. Car check engine light was on for a few days, then turned off about 3 days ago, stopped at drug store, when I turned on the car, the check engine light was back on, put car in reverse and clunk, while the display where the r for reverse would have been was scrambled, car still reversed. Clunked into drive, and wouldn't switch out of 1st gear.
When turning my car on and putting it into reverse, the check engine light came on and my car jerked into gear and where the r should appear for reverse on the dash, all the letters were scrambled together. The car drove in reverse and then when I put it into drive, it jerked again and then would hardly accelerate. After driving the car for a couple minutes, turning it off, and turning it back on, it would finally accelerate but the check engine light would still be on and the gears would still jerk. The check engine light would go off after a couple days and everything would be fine and then it would all start again. Then my car is starting to switch over into neutral when driving 60mph+ and now it will do this multiple times when driving at any speed. When it switches over to neutral like this while I'm driving, the d for drive on the dash will become scrambled like it does when it jerks into reverse. The problem is getting worse.
I was driving down a busy street in stop and go traffic. While stopped at a stop light, my vehicle made a very loud "clunk" noise, lurched forward and the check engine light came on. When I attempted to accelerate after the light turned green, I had to push the gas pedal almost to the floor to get the vehicle to move forward. I pulled over and parked, turned the vehicle off, waited about a minute, turned the vehicle back on, and the problem had gone away although the check engine light was still on. A day or so later, while I was driving on the highway going approximately 65 miles per hour, the vehicle made the "clunk" noise, lurched forward and the check engine light came on again. This time, because I was already in motion, the rpms jumped up above 3000, which is very high for a 4 cylinder engine only going 65 miles per hour. Again, I pulled over, turned the vehicle off, waited about a minute, turned the car on and was able to drive the vehicle normally again although the check engine light remained illuminated. This issue has been happening randomly about 20 times a year over the course of the last 2 1/2 - 3 years.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that her check engine light would illuminate on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Car was sputtering and hesitating. Check engine light came on. We took to mechanic and error p0705 transmission range sensor came up as the problem. Suzuki is aware of this ongoing problem and they are clearly ignoring the potential for a serious accident to occur by not recalling and rectifying the issue. Rather they are relying on their consumers to absorb the expense of this repair. My faith in Suzuki has definitely been shaken and this definitely will influence my decision to purchase another Suzuki or recommend Suzuki. It is time that Suzuki step up and admit their negligence, rectify the issue, compensate those who have absorbed the cost of this repair, and restore the faith in its consumers.
Ahhh yes. . . The range sensor going out. My car started doing this in October 2010 and I was told that I need a new sensor too. My car jerks when this acts up and when it is gear, you can see the both the "r" and the "d" on the instrument panel. I took my car to midas and the mechanic (that works on my car) take a look at, he showed me where the sensor is (if you're facing the engine it's the little black round looking thing with a handle and yellow stripe on it). He did something to it and it ran fine for a few days and then did the "jerk" and the engine light came on again. I looked under the hood, and pressed down (as to pushing it back into place) and wiggled it a little before this. When I started my car, it ran perfectly and the light went off. I do this every 3-5 days. It seems to me that the sensor is getting loose and needs to have a new fitting. I'm not spending $253. 00 until I absolutely need it. They do need to recall this because it's very annoying to have to deal with!!.
The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that when shifting into drive with the brakes depressed, the engine would shift abnormally, causing the check engine warning light to illuminate. Neither the dealer nor manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who replaced the brake pads however, the failure persisted. The current mileage was 80,000 and the failure mileage was 73,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that in order to turn the vehicle on, the contact would have to shift the vehicle into neutral. After the vehicle was started, the check engine light would illuminate. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied any assistance with the repair. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 54,000.
I noticed my car having difficulty accelerating and it would occasionally feel the engine jump while driving. The check engine light was on. I was going down the interstate when the engine shut itself off. Luckily it turned itself back on and I was able to safely accelerate to speed. The shop said that it was the transmission range sensor and the transmission control sensor. A year ago the car was displaying funny symbols and would not start occasionally. Again the same sensors had to be replaced. A third time the car check engine light came on and the car was again having difficulty accelerating. The acceleration issue and the light are intermittent, it has now again begun doing the engine "jump" it is scary being at a light and not being able to move. It is very scary stopping to turn left into my apartment complex and not knowing if my car will respond when I have a gap in traffic to turn. Took it to a shop today to find out that the codes from the engine check light are again the transmission range sensor and the transmission control sensor. The car has under 65k and I have had these issues three times. I am thankful that it has not caused a major accident.
The problem started on 7/12/09. I had just gotten an oil change at wal-mart in jacksonville, ar, and as soon as I turned on the car the check engine light was on. Wal-mart of course denied any damages, but stated if something was done on their part they would reimburse me for the damages. From there I went to auto zone and was told that the codes were 700 and 705, which referred to the transmission sensor. The very next day the check engine light went off. Long story short, since that time the light has come on several times. Prior to the light coming on, my car would be in drive but would hesitate and feel as if it is in neutral. Also, a line would go across the d (drive) on my dashboard, and all of the other gears would appear to be something different on the dashboard (I. E. P (park) on the gear shift would read r (reverse) on the dashboard. I feel that this should not be happening on a 2007 model car. There are 62, 000 miles on this car, which are mostly highway miles. This is very frustrating and from what I have read on the web, this is a very common problem.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the check engine light constantly illuminates. She also noticed a gaseous odor inside the passenger compartment. The mechanic stated that the oxygen sensor on the driver side was the cause of the failure. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The powertrain was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 26,548.
2006 Suzuki Forenza with engine light and gas tank problems. Consumer states that it took him 3 weeks to get a new gas cap. Customer has spent more than $330 and the problem is still not fixed. The consumer stated the engine light continued to illuminated after repairs were made to the vehicle. The consumer was informed by a different mechanic that the vehicle needed a new map sensor and wiring harness. The consumer stated the vehicle stalled twice while on the freeway while driving 25 mph.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. While driving approximately 65 mph when she heard a dripping noise coming from the engine and the air bag light was constantly on. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who was unable to locate a failure. The failure continued to occur. She also stated that the passenger front door handle came off. The vehicle was purchased in April 2007 by June 2007 and all four door handles came off of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times for the failure. She contacted GMC who referred her to another dealer who replaced the bottom portion of the engine. The contact stated that there was also a problem with the transmission and the vehicle slipped out of gear. She stated that the dealer performed a diagnostic test and no codes indicated that there was a failure. She stated that the engine light was on. The manufacturer suggested that she take the vehicle back to an authorized dealer to have the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was not repaired for any other the failures. The failure mileage was 200 and the current mileage was 73,507.
When I first brought the car on 1/30/2006, it started giving me problems, such as not starting up, the engine light on and off all the time. The emergency brake light on constantly. The power windows rolling up and down by themselves. The power locks stop working and then work over and over again. When I'm driving, the car jerks and pulls all the time. (the pulling is coming from the transmission). I am a single mother of two and I feel real bad about getting stuck with a lemon. After I get out of school I take classes at night and my kids go to the daycare on campus when I picked them up after class, got in the car, started it up, and the front two windows rolled down by themselves, and would not roll up and it was snowing and we had to ride all the way home like that. The dealership doesn't care. As far as they are concerned, it is not their problem. It is a messed up world we live in where someone knows that you really need a car and they screw you with a lemon. Until this present day, all these problems described still exist but so do me and my son-3 and my daughter-6 if anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Three weeks after I purchased my Forenza the check engine light came on, so I took it in to the dealership & was told it is a known problem with the Forenza . The problem had to do with the '02 sensor' and currently there is no fix for the problem. At that time they reset the code problem. Each time the problem recurred I went back to the dealership and they caused the light to turn off. On August 25 the promised fixed was installed and a few days later the check engine light turned on again and I returned to the dealership and was told that the correction has not worked and I would be contacted when one was available. As of October 25, 2006, the check engine light is still on and I have not been contacted by no one, even though I have called, written and emailed to everyone connected to the dealership.
: the contact stated on 5 occasions the check engine light illuminated. This happens at various speeds and under any driving conditions. When the check engine light illuminates it does not affect the performance of the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection the check engine light code was reset after each incident. On 3 occasions the check engine light re illuminated after 45 minutes, the 4th time after a few weeks and the last time after several months. The manufacturer has been alerted.
The contact stated while driving the brakes failed and the check engine light came on. The road conditions were dry, and brake failure occurred under normal braking and at normal to low speeds. He contacted the dealership, who claimed the brake switch malfunctioned, causing the check engine light to come on. Also, contacted the manufacturer. They told him to contact the dealership. No repairs have been made. Updated 1/11/2006 -.
