Passenger front side air bag light keeps coming on, sent two notes to dealer-no reply with all the talk of recalls of susuki I am concerned, with no reply from dealer even more concerned (5 star, altoona, PA) (need to verify year and mileage, car is not here now).

Brought vehicle to Suzuki dealer to have a check done as to why seat belt and airbag lights were staying on. They reported a code and said they would have to replace the passenger seat cushion at a cost of $1069. 00! I could not believe what happened next the service manager informed me that there was a recall and were replacing screws in the outside mirrors to prevent falling off. . . . But the seat cushion was not listed as a recall even though there have been other complaints. Since when are mirrors more important then airbags that are mandated in vehicles. Why hasn't Suzuki stepped up and declared a recall and also why hasn't the NHTSA demanded that they recall these vehicles. So screws for mirrors are more important than airbags. . . What is this world coming to.

Copied this from this site"the ecu also performs regular diagnostic checks of the air bag system. If the ecu identifies a problem, the air bag readiness (warning) light will illuminate on the instrument panel. When the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash. " part of the required safety features required on most new vehicles is what was stated. Corrected the mileage from previous complaint. . . . My 2008 Suzuki Sx4 shows the air bag light on along with the passenger seat belt light on(even when occupied) according to the above statement "when the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash. " so here I am. I followed up with a visit to Suzuki dealer and $45 later they told me exactly what was stated on sites code b1312 and that I need a new passenger seat cushion, that the sensor was not working. Then they hit me with a cost of $1009. 82 + tax to replace a cushion. . . Mind you a part that is mandated to be on vehicle and working. This is obscene and I refused then they offered to cut it in half $600 +. . . Why do I have to pay anything for a obvious defect in their system as indicated by other entries on here and other sites pertaining to the same problem. Is everyone waiting for a major accident. Also they could not tell me if all was disabled, part disabled or none were disabled. Action is definitely needed by someone or some agency to step in and address this problem.
The airbag light first came on about two years ago on my commute from edwards afb, CA. I took the car into the Suzuki dealership in riverside CA, for an inspection the airbags were reset, but the light did not go off. On a Saturday in between may or June 2012, coming from the valero hand car wash the airbag light went off, then driving up mt view in barstow CA I hit bump in the road at 25 mph and the light was back on again and has not gone off since. I have the tires rotated at walmart in barstow and they have noted the the tire pressure and airbag light is on as well as the last tune up in December 2011. The remedy is to leave the car for two day to run and reset the airbags. Any help to replace the car and/or bags without the $1200 expense would be appreicated. Thank you.
At approximately 70,000 miles the airbag light came on. A computer diagnostic showed that the sensor in the passenger seat cushion needed to be replaced. This is the sensor which senses whether or not a person is sitting in the seat and in the case of an accident tells the airbag to deploy. The state in which I live requires safety inspections which the vehicle will not pass if the airbag light is on. The failure of an airbag deployment is considered a safety issue by my state laws and should be considered a safety issue with the manufacturer of this vehicle.

I am the owner of a Suzuki Sx4, VIN number: js2yb413175106005, that has 22,713 miles. About two weeks ago I began to notice that the airbag light on both the driver and passenger sides was lit on the instrument cluster. Because Suzuki closed most of its dealerships in north florida, I was forced to drive 150 miles (each way) to the dealership in tampa (crown Suzuki). The dealer looked at my car and the code said that the airbag system was receiving invalid input from the passenger seat sensor (b1312). The dealer stated that he couldn’t reprogram the sensor, and that instead they would have to replace the entire seat airbag sensor mat, which costs $1,584. 92 (not including labor). Also, dealer stated that almost every single Suzuki Sx4 he had seen sooner or later developed this problem. After conducting some internet research (including multiple Suzuki forums and complaints to NHTSA – national highway traffic safety administration), I was shocked to find out how common this problem is. This seems to be a growing concern with sx-4's and Suzuki is not doing anything about it. This is a safety related issue, which Suzuki continues to ignore. I spoke to Suzuki in California and a representative pretty much said "tough luck. " because this is a safety related issue, and the short circuit occurs not due to “natural wear and tear of the part, I strongly insist that american Suzuki automotive division needs to take responsibility and offer assistance in repairing this problem or issue a recall or extended warranty for this failure.

2007 Suzuki Sx4- passenger airbag light on, took it to dealership, they stated the right front seat track/bottom assembly would need replacing costing approximately $1500. 00. Apparently this is a common problem. Suzuki should have to recall their cars and correct the problem.
The airbag light stays on constantly, I went to the Suzuki dealership and they said there were faulty aribag sensors in the seat and the entire seat would have to be replaced at my cost of approximately $2000, that the airbags would not work without the seat being replaced and not to drive the vehicle because it was a safety issue. I am a single mom, school teacher and bought the vehicle expecting reliable transportation. I have to drive it or loose my job and do not have $2000 to fix it. After I researched on the internet there are multiple complaints about this same issue. There needs to be a safety recall at the manufacturers expense.
The airbag light is consistently on and when I took it to the dealer I was informed that it's the passenger seat that is causing the light to be activated. Why should I have to pay the dealer approximately $2000. 00 to replace the passenger seat after the warranty ran out? Suzuki should be held responsible if someone is hurt or possibly killed if there is an accident and the airbag isn't activated, because of a seat mat that they placed in the vehicle on the passenger side. It seems that other driver's of Suzuki Sx4 cars have the same problem.
I noticed the airbag light staying on in late April 2011. I took the car to Suzuki dealership in san jose they reportedly fixed the problem but the light came back on in September and I returned to the dealership. They seemingly fixed it, although they said it might take replacing one or both of the seats for upwards of $2,000 but when I drove away the light was not on. Now in November the light is back on. Since I have read so many complaints about this problem with other Suzuki Sx4's I would like to see a recall and a permanent solution to this problem.
I have an issue with the air bag sensor under the passenger seat of my 2008 Suzuki sx-4 sdn. The air bag light on the dash comes on and stays on, as well as the passenger seat belt light on the information display comes on and stays on. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they checked the code and found a code recorded for the airbag system. They could not determine what triggered the code however they said they reset the system and it should be fine. The same day the lights came back on so I took the vehicle back to the same dealer. This time they told me that the passenger side under seat assembly which contains the air bag sensor was bad and would need replaced at a cost of $2500 just for the part. I went on the internet and searched for similar problems and was suprised to find that there are many others with the same problem. The company has not agreed to do anything to alleviate the problem for me or the others that have had the same problem. I have also not been able to discern for sure whether the air bags will work as long as the vehicle has this problem. If not it is a definite safety problem and should require a recall to fix the problems or replace the defective parts. As I said this seems to be a very common problem with not only the 2008 Suzuki vehicles but also the 2007 model year Suzukis. I have basically been told that since the vehicle is out of warranty that I am out of luck, however I feel that if this is a defect that they are aware of and have not done anything about that they should be held responsible, especially if the problem is potentially endangering the operators of these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Sx4. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the air bag light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated the air bag light stayed on constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technicians stated the seat cushion was bent or broken which needed to be replaced due to the grid underneath the seat, which was connected to the air bag sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
2008 Suzuki Sx4 crossover driver airbag light and passenger seatbelt light are on constantly. Contacted Suzuki customer service, took vehicle to authorized Suzuki dealership. Diagnosed problem, will cost over 2200 to make vehicle safe to operate. Service man informed us none of the airbags will function until 2200$ repairs are made. Car is not under warranty. If I choose to have the passenger seat cushion replaced this will make the third seat cushion as it has been replaced another time already under warranty. Suzuki customer service told me since car is out of warranty I have to pay. They told me to have service manager contact their technical rep and open a case and maybe they might help me in some unspecified way. Suzuki dealership would not give us a loaner car and Suzuki customer service would not authorize loaner vehicle. We have to drive this little deathtrap without any airbags. If you go online and type in Suzuki Sx4 airbag light on you see this is a widespread problem. We can`t afford to pay for another airbag sensor that will only last a short time and then leave us vulnerable and unprotected. Please help us and others like us who don`t have the money to pay for Suzuki`s poor quality and defective safety equipment. Thank you.
The passenger air bag sensor light would come on with a passenger in the seat while driving down the road. It would stay on for a few minutes and eventually go off. This went on for a few months and was initially blamed on the position of the passenger in the seat as wiggling would cause the light to go off. Approximately three months ago the light came in and stayed on, along with the driver's air bag light. My daughter took the car to the local dealer who advised it would cost $2000 to repair because the car was out of warranty due to the mileage. When my boyfriend returned to the service department after researching the problem to inquire about a good will repair we were advised by the service manager two things: first that he was not aware that was a common problem and second that he does them all the time for local dealers because owners usually trade them in ratherr than pay for the repairs and the dealer is unable to sell them without fixing them. He refused to fix the problem, re-stating what he told my daughter, that it would cost $2,000 to fix. It seemed to us that he contradicted himself, either it is a common problem with many of the dealers bringing in used vehicles to have the sensor fixed for $2,000 or it isn't. I would like to know how to get Suzuki to approve a good will repair for this problem that is more than 75% of the reported issues for this model car for 2008.
2008 Suzuki Sx4 crossover airbag light. Light intermediatlly turns on and off. Suzuki could not find a problem until the light stayed on. Problem started with 8,000 miles on car, and finally failed at 101,000 miles but Suzuki says its unrelated even though its the same light. Refuses to fix problem as warrenty issue. Many other reports of defective seat sensors rumored second version of part fixes problem, no recall?.
2007 Suzuki Sx4: naguabo, pr. Air bag light and front passenger sensing system indicators stay on. Took to dealer, computer reset done. Lasted only 4 days, air bag sys fault lights on again. Taken back to dealer, service dept said the front passenger seat air bag sensor was faulty. Mileage 54,442 not covered under warranty. Over $2,000 to fix issue. This must be a factory defect that somehow appears after your warranty expires. This is a safety issue.
Purchased Sx4 2007 Suzuki 5/31/07. Also purchased 60 month/$50,000 mile warranty for $645. 00 at time of purchase. On 12/9/2010 at 52,000 thousand miles (2,000 mile ov. Warranty), passenger air bag light came on. Made appt. To take vehicle to dealership 12/22/10. Told sensor was bad and cost approximately $1,000. 00 to repair. Follow-up call to dealership produced offer to repair at 1/2 the price ($500. 00)! ! family has purchased multiple vehicles at dealership. This occurred 2,000 miles (not even one oil change) over warranty when vehicle was only 3 1/2 years old. Daughter commutes to college/home in this vehicle, and to work/home. Rarely has passengers in vehicle! called american Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. Opened a case. Told to get back in touch with dealership to provide them with case number. Told technical manager would review our case. Told dealership may cover part, labor, or both; and we would hear something within 48-72 hours. Contacted back by dealership restating original offer. Called american Suzuki back. Told our warranty had expired, and the dealership's offer was a "good will" gesture. Told dealership not required to do anything. Well, we are not required to purchase additional Suzuki vehicles, or to get ripped-off buying $645. 00 good-for-nothing extended warranties with $100. 00 deductibles which should not be needed, and usually aren't--until they're expired. Air bags are a safety issue, and sensor should be a recall item. Not sure if air bag system will work at all, or if car will pass inspection. Customers should not have to replace faulty high-priced $$$$ defective parts. American Suzuki should responsibly produce quality products and stand behind them. Brag about 100,000 mile/10 year warranty. That warranty is very limited as to what it actually covers. Good racket: expensive good-for-nothing extended warranties and faulty parts produce good referral business for the dealership's service department. Customer satisaction zero.
At an early mileage (~18000 mi) the passengers airbag when on indicating the airbag was disabled. I took the car to the dealer but they said if it was not on at that time, they could do anything. The problem persisted until now that the main panel airbag light is permanently on. I called the dealer and they said there is no longer under warranty due to the mileage. I also started a research on this specific topic on this car model and it seems it is a common issue among them. Since the dealer rep. Said no a single airbag will deploy in an accident, I suggest NHTSA to investigate this problem as a manufacturers defect.
I bought a 2007 Suzuki Sx4 new. At about 55000 miles, the driver's side airbag light came on. I did a quick, or so I thought, scan from a snap on obd2 scanner, just to find out, that the dealer is the only one who can scan these cars. So I looked on the internet for a solution, to find out that there are alot of people with the same problems. I called the dealer to ask about the situation, seeing as how virginia has state inspections, and the light can not flash or stay on, and was told that I could bring it in at a "starting cost of $80" for a scan to find out the problem. "it will only be a couple hundred dollars if anything slid under the seat and caused the wires to come out of the connector. ", is the next thing I was told. After that, seeing as how I looked on line, I asked about the seat cushion issues that I have read so much about, and was told, " that would be expensive". I do not understand how this can be as big of a problem, and we the consumer are responsible for their faulty equipment. I also had to ask if the airbag system was still active, and was told "no. If the system has a fault, it shut off the whole thing". So my family's safety has no bearing on their wallet. As long as they get your money they don't care? so being as upset as I was I found the u. S. A. Corporate number and called to tell them the problem as well and was told, "contact your dealer, there is nothing I can do for you. ".
This issue deals with the passenger airbag sensor in my 2007 Suzuki sx-4. The sensor first started giving me problems about a year ago. I took the car in to bill siedles Suzuki where they reset the light. I went online and began reading thru the blogs and noticed that this appears to be a common problem that many Suzuki sx-4s are having. Recently I took my car in for some warranty work regarding concerning the transmission. When I got my car back the airbag sensor light was on again. I mentioned it to the service representative who explained to me that it was a defect with a sensor in the passenger seat and because the car was out of its bumper to bumper warranty I would have to pay for the expenses myself. The sensor by itself cost an amazing $2400. I contacted Suzuki in California to see what could be done. They had me contact someone at bill siedles Suzuki and request a goodwill service. They denied the good will service. Coincidently, I drove a 2009 Suzuki sx-4 while vacationing in puerto rico and it also happened to have the same issues. Its evident that there is an issue with this sensor and Suzuki refuses to correct it. I've had numerous issues relating to my Suzuki ranging from cosmetics to mechanical issues, even the sensors in the tires which monitor tire pressure are broken and now my tpms light is constantly lit on my dashboard. I do have 90,000 miles on my car but I keep it in pristine condition and any of the mechanics who have worked on the car can testify to this. However, my problems with the airbag light dont appear unique based on the endless forums that I've read and 90,000 freeway miles dont wear out an airbag sensor in 3 years. Additionally, it deals with the safety of my family. I have no idea how that airbag with react in the event of an accident. Whatever the issue is, it also gives an indication that the passenger seatbelt is not on. I would appreciate you looking into this issue. Thanks for your help.
I have a 2008 Suzuki sx-4 crossover. The airbag light came on and stayed on, so I took the vehicle back to my dealer to have the problem diagnosed. The dealer told me that the passenger seat cushion sensor was defective and the warranty on that item ran out at 30,000 miles. The cost of replacement was going to be over $1,500. 00. After researching this problem on line, and finding out that this is a very common problem with this particular vehicle, I just wonder if there isn't more than enough customer complaints to have a recall issued for this problem, especially when it has happened more than once for some owners.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Sx4. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated and stayed on. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer six months prior to the failure where the computer was reset and a sensor replaced under warranty. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Failure of airbag system due to failure of the occupancy control module. This shuts down the entire passenger restrain system for all airbags. A quick review of the internet reveals this to be a common problem. . Read more...

The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Sx4. The abs air bag light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure in the passenger front seat. The air bag sensor would not deactivate while passenger was in the seat. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 48,000. Updated 5/9/11 updated 05/16/11.
Shortly after I purchased my car I told the dealer that the passenger airbag indicator light was saying it was off occasionally, even when people were sitting in it. They told me the person must be "sitting in the seat wrong. " I asked them about it again a week ago and they said "they must be sitting in the seat wrong. " I said it didn't matter how the person is sitting, it still comes on. Then they told me it depends on the weight of the person sitting in the passenger seat. I said it was happening with someone 150 pounds and 250 pounds. Then they told me it was a "design flaw with the car" and they couldn't do anything about it.
Vehicle purchased new on 10/30/2007, and serviced regularly at local dealer. Initial reports of "passenger air bag" light ignored repeatedly by dealer. On 3/23/2008 while vehicle was moving it was backed into by a Toyota camry. The camry had minimal damage, but the Suzuki sustained more than $4700 in damage. Numerous calls to police ensue and finally after 2 hours, a florida hwy. Patrol officer responds. He refused to make/take a report as his shift is about to end. He had a very demeaning attitude and was quite agitated. While injuries were sustained, no one knew the extent of them at the time of the incident. None of the 7 airbags deployed and the airbag light never came on. The car itself was severely damaged and almost tipped completely over onto its roof. The passenger later learned that the reason for her severe pain and inability to walk 3 weeks after the accident was due to a severed hip joint. Of course the camry driver's geico insurance handled the initial claim and repaired the Suzuki. They balked at the injuries, but after retaining counsel finally paid out a small portion on the medical; the passenger has permanent life long problems as a result, lost her job and has a large partially unpaid medical bill. The vehicle was "okay" after the repair and then at 51310 miles the "air bag" light came on and stayed on. Reports to NHTSA and Suzuki went completely ignored since there were not enough Suzuki's sold. Suzuki advised owner to continue making car payments, insurance premiums etc. , but do not drive vehicle as they would not be responsible for injuries now that they were aware. What a complete joke! owner had to sell car as transportation was needed; why make payments on something you can't drive. Gm owned the Suzuki division at the time and have since closed the Suzuki division. They again got off while others suffer for the rest of their lives!.
I bought my Sx4 2007 Suzuki Nov 2007. I have had problems with gas fumes inside car, took it to service said there were no leaks. Still smells on occasions. Took car to service 3 times the had it for 7 days and could find no problem. It is the worst car I have ever had for poor gas mileage. And also the passenger airbag light comes on constantly. Was told passenger must not be sitting in seat right, give me a break!!!!. I wouldn't recommend this car.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Sx4. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminates and indicates that the air bag is off. He took the vehicle to the dealer twice, but the failure remains. He also stated that the brakes extend to the floor when trying to stop the vehicle. The brakes have to be pumped in order to stop. This failure occurs at any speed. The dealer replaced the master cylinder. The VIN was unknown. The current mileage was 11,000 and failure mileage was 15.
