36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

The touch screen turns off at random times. I could be parked, driving, turning. Happening with more frequency, then they pushed an over the air update, but now it's back.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2021

The car has 2 displays, a dash display and an "infortainment" display. Both worked great when new. All vehicle status is displayed on them, and most vehicle controls are available only through them. Over time, they have become problematic. They will spontaneously reboot at any time (while parked in the garage, driving under varied conditions, etc) which can make them unavailable for up to 3 minutes, or even worse they will freeze displaying the wrong information until the driver notices and manually reboots them. For a while, this would happen roughly every 10 minutes while driving, and meant we could lose navigation while in an unfamiliar area, lose the backup camera, access to hvac controls including defogger, etc. It is usually more of an annoyance, but with such frequency it is extremely annoying at best, and given the random timing it could be a safety issue as well. We have had 4 appointments to address this. They have made a couple of changes that have reduced the frequency of the problems. But they still occur, unless we completely stop using major features including navigation and Teslacam. The fact that they largely disappear with some changes indicates that these are not due to the known emmc problems that are already under investigation. These are firmware bugs related to navigation, usb handling, processor overload due to new features, etc. Tesla claims they will be fixed, but cannot give us a date. This has been going on for about a year. We have this problem almost every time we drive the car more than just a few miles. Owners online indicate this is a common problem with Model X and s built before March 2018 with the mcu1 computer. It is clear that Tesla service technicians are familiar with the problems, as they are giving similar explanations to owners all over the country. Yet the firmware bugs are still not fixed.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2021

Tesla advised me that the 8gb (emmc) in the media control unit is faulty which on two recent occassions caused me to expience a persistent center display or loss of the rearvies camera display, defrost/defog, and/or turn signal lighting, which may increease the risk of a crash. Tesla reports that they do not have the parts needed to fix the car for me. I have been dealing with this issue since January 2021. I had expected more from Tesla.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2020

Mcu failed twice, resulting in black screen while in operation. No rear camera, no ventilation control. Tesla reports that I need to reset my trip counter every 2k miles to avoid this problem (see attached service report). This is a clear safety hazard.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

I have had regular issues with my car's bluetooth systems since December, 2020. The only way I've been able to resolve this issue is by resetting my car (holding down both steering wheel buttons). The service center has asked me to reset the car multiple times, delete all connected bluetooth profiles, and completely reset the car's electronics. None of these fixes has worked. It still fails every 5-10 days. I am going to leave it in a non-functioning state next time this happens so that they are forced to look at it in person. They always try to diagnose things remotely, but are unable to do so when it is in a non-functioning state. It appears this also affects the car's cellular and wifi connectivity.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2020

The 17 inch screen keep going off while driving and unable to defrost windshield also hvac doesn't work doing driving when this display 17 inch screen go blank this may be related to previous report on the 8 gb memory on the 17 inch screen displays gone bad my car had only 40,000 mile when this happened it's still under warranty but have asked Tesla to help and they were not helping the car still under warranty.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

On multiple occassions (sometimes while stationary and sometimes while moving), the media control unit (mcu) has become inoperable. If it occurs prior to a trip, this meant the vehicle would not drive for the several minutes it takes to perform a re-boot. When it occurred while driving, it meant that the following systems could not be used and/or adjusted: the rear view camera, the radio volume, the temperature control, the navigation system, and possibly others. I have provided Tesla with time stamps of almost all failure events and taken the vehicle to their service centers 3 different times. Although an aspect of this mcu (the "emmc") is known to be defective and the vehicle is under warranty, Tesla has repeatedly refused to replace the mcu. Instead they have, on the latest service appointment, indicated there are "fpga errors" and there is a "firmware bug" that is causing the problem and that this firmware bug will be addressed with a pending firmware update. In the meantime, they suggest performing a "re-boot" of the system every time it fails. I am worried that this may cause for an unsafe driving situation and hope that the NHTSA will compel Tesla to recall vehicles from this era (from which the mcus are known to be defective).

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2020

I took possession of a used Tesla 2017 Model X directly from Tesla used sales on Saturday 11/28. Within 2 days (by mon 11/30), the central console/computer went completely black and the car lost all ability to self-drive, use media, climate control, lighting, and, from a most concerning safety stand-point, all camera including rear-view. This problem was reported to Tesla on 12/1 and no solution has been forthcoming. In scanning the internet, this seems to be a serious reoccuring problem with the central mcu computer console. The car is drive-able but without safety precautions or functionality in even the most basic of operations.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2020

Touch screen extremely sluggish, sometimes unresponsive during driving trip, losing many active safety features such as forward collision warning, side collision warning, rear view camera, active navigation leading to distractions from trying to use alternative hand phone navigation. Lost speedometer function while driving as shown on image below making driving unsafe. Image below showed driving on a city street while both control screens center and driver side became frozen leading to panicking distractions. Car often slow to boot up or wake up, taking several minutes, in order to be drivable. This situation may become unsafe in case of real emergency requiring to drive the vehicle immediately.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2020

Vehicle central touchscreen randomly "reboots" even while driving. Screen will go black and take 2-5 minutes to power back on. Screen also freezes up with increasing regularity (several times a week) forcing manual reboot. When rebooting backup camera, and audible parking sensor chimes are disabled. Also turn signal noise indicator is disabled. Date of incident is today's date but issue has been ongoing and increasing in frequency for the past 12 months.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2020

The mcu is not starting up.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

The mcu on the vehicle has issues with it shutting down and going blank. Also many mcu functions aren't able to be used during these periods. There's been times a reset doesn't resolve the issue and Tesla had to fix the vehicle. Tesla issued a warranty adjustment program to address this issue. The issues I'm experiencing are consistent with this notice, but they are refusing to resolve the issue as stated in the notice. . Read more...

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2020

Mcu and touchscreen are extremely slow to respond and need constant reboots to unfreeze. I spoke to Tesla service about replacing the mcu or the emmc under their new warranty program but they keep telling me they have tempted into the car and fixed the issue by clearing the memory. It's a temporary fix as the issue returns in a few days.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary in the garage and attempting to start-up the vehicle, the instrumental panel was inoperable. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2020

Tesla issued a recall for the mcu after I had the mcu replaced because it was failing. The screens in my car would go blank and I would have no idea how fast I was going while driving. The a/c wound shut off in the middle of the drive. I didn't have turn signals. These were all the reasons why the NHTSA ask Tesla to issue a recall, and finally Tesla agreed to this recall. Tesla is however not reimbursing me for the replacement of the mcu. I have spent months trying to get Tesla to honor their recall. I would like to be reimbursed for this recalled mcu that I had to pay for myself as it was a major safety issue. I would appreciate you help.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

Main control unit (mcu1) fails daily. It was first replaced within 2-4 months of purchased because of the black screen of death. Will lose ac, navigation, car lock, and many other things that make the car work properly. Tesla continues to delay any repair for years. This must be. My 6th or 6l7th times bring in the car for repair which they do not seem to repair.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2020

I have the mcu1 computer on my 2017 Tesla Model X. The turn signal stopped working and I had to reboot the computer. The car was in motion.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2020

My mcu is starting to fail. My vehicle was built in 03/2017 and I have 50,000 miles. The mcu has become slower and less responsive over time. On 7/28/20 my mcu became completely responsive while driving and required me to stop the vehicle so that I can perform the 2 button reset. I lost air conditioning during this time for about 2 minutes and it was 100 degrees outside. I fear my mcu will fail completely soon and I will lose vital controls of the car including turn signals. The mcu is faulty by design of the 8gb emmc module which has limited write cycles and Tesla uncessarily logging useless information to it for many years.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

The mcu (media control unit) also known as the infotainment center went out on my 2017 Tesla Model X. When this unit went out, I lost the ability to use the turn signals, the back up camera, most of the controls to change settings for the car and the car was no longer able to accept a charge. The car was in the driveway at home when this happened and I tried to schedule an appointment with Tesla to get this resolved. They told me that the part was on back order and that they could not take the car in at the time. It would be about a month before they were able to get the part and that I could still drive the car. They also asked me to keep the car charged but I also let them know that the car is unable to do so at home. He asked me to take it to Tesla supercharging station and try there. I let them know that my turn signals were no longer working and the technician told me that hand signals were still an acceptable form of vehicle direction/movement indication. Well, I took it to the supercharging station with the turn signals and rear camera not working and the car would not charge so I had to take it home again driving without turn signals on the freeway. I finally convinced them the car was not safe to drive and that the car would lose all its battery reserve before I they were able to take my appointment so the technician asked me to drive it into the san francisco Tesla service center.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

I was driving and the screen went blank. Mcu touchscreen failure. Screen is blank. No response after multiple reset attempts.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Experienced intermittent touchscreen lock up and self reboots resulting in loss of rear view camera, hvac control functionalities, and feedback sound/indicator for turn signals. Entertainment(radio) controls were also locked out.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

The computer screen went dead can't turn on heat or ac, open side mirror or charge the car.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2020

The mcu is failing, its slow, freezes and has yellow borders.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2020

Mcu has been super slow and un-usable. Cant use it to make any calls or use voice commands. It is super slow and tend to fail soon and Tesla is not ready to repair or replace it. Other issue I have is, rattling sound while driving and Tesla says its common. I do not expect this when I paid $90,000 for a car. It feels as if I am driving a cheap 20 year old car.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

My Tesla Model X 100 d 2017 has this big screen in center. After apx. 2,5 years the screen became less responsive, error message ('please wait until system has powered up'), 1-2 minutes before I could drive, trouble connecting via app, I could not initiate the navigation system. I then went to Tesla service center, and they 'flushed the car' as they told me (meaning deleting address favorites, and I think also radio favorites). The car was as new again! but then I learned from Tesla that this was related to the emmc (embedded memory card) solded on the main board on back of the screen. After talking with multiple others, it turns out that this is the famous emmc-failure of Tesla: after multiple over writing of this card, it simply stop working. You cannot connect with app, and you have to replace this (and if out of warranty you have to pay apx usd 2-3000,- out of own pocket! however, more critically (beside the very negative fact that you in reality is having a very 'dumb' car, is that the car is not at all able to receive any updates (read 'corrections') related to security. This is clearly a huge design error on practically the brain of a Tesla, and affects all model s and x up to 2018 when Tesla realized this by them selves and introduced a new version of emmc. All version 1 of the emmc should be recalled and replaced by Tesla.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

Vehicle not able to supercharge due to salvage title, vehicle was able to supercharge for a year and turned off with out notice or warning. Vehicle has not sustained damage to high voltage components and passed Tesla high voltage system inspection. Notified supercharging is permanently disabled for both Tesla and third party DC fast charging making it impossible to rode trip on the vehicle. I attached invoices for payed charging vehicle now not supercharging disabled.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

The 17-inch touchscreen periodically goes blank or does not come on when car is started. This occurs randomly while car is stationary or in motion.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

The vehicle unusually accelerates when it is fully charged. Also, Tesla committed to unlimited supercharging for life regardless of any ownership transfer but now refusing to adhere to their commitment.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

The car suddenly took over and accelerated beyond control while I pulled the car into a parking space. Front airbags were deployed and the front end of the car was damaged beyond repair. The car was totaled.
