36 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 12/25/2023

Almost all body parts including doors and windows have alignment gaps resulting in air leaks into and out of the car creating too much wind noise and very had to keep warm in winter and cool in summer thus overburdening the heating and cooling system causing excessive wear and tear.

37 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/18/2023

I had my two Teslas parked in the garage. The Model X was charging at about 1:30 am. We heard explosions coming out of the garage. Went to check only to see my Model X in flames. We evacuated and called 911 eventually a fire investigation report was made showing the fire started within the vehicle outward. The battery pack was on fire. We had lithium contamination all over the house and this fire endangered five lives. This incident has been two years ago and until now Tesla refuses to acknowledge the faulty battery and is refusing to do anything about it.

38 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/14/2023

The wing-style door of the car closed while my 1-year-old daughter's leg was sticking out. It dragged her leg sideways as it closed, and he femur broke. None of the sensors worked, the door should have detected motion or pressure, but they did not and it resulted in my daughter's leg breaking.

39 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/27/2023

On 10/27/23, traveling south from 885 to merge onto I-40 east via the on-ramp, we hit a rough patch of road with potholes/ruts at the shoulder. There was a loud bang, we felt the front of the car drop, and felt an immediate change in steering/stability. We could hear loud scraping/grinding noises, and we pulled to the shoulder as quickly as we could. At first we suspected a flat tire, however the tires were all fine. We could hear air hissing coming from under the car when the ignition was on. The vehicle was towed to a Tesla service center. We learned that the front driver-side suspension had failed and broke through the surrounding strut tower. The vehicle was deemed a total loss and was sold at a salvage auction, however we do still have the broken part of the strut tower if needed for inspection. Our safety and that of other drivers on the road was put at risk in this event. If we had been traveling on a tighter curve or at a higher speed, we could have lost control of the vehicle and resulted in a crash. We were stranded on the side of a busy highway onramp at night when this incident occurred, which was also unsafe. Unknown if the problem has been reproduced by a dealer or service center. Our understanding is that Tesla is already aware of the suspension issues. The vehicle was inspected by Tesla's raleigh service center, by erie insurance, and by a local, telsa-authorized body shop (relentless collision). They confirmed the suspension and strut tower failure. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to or at the time of failure. After the car was towed to Tesla, a service center representative mentioned that the computer system showed a suspension failure/error message, but we explained that no such warnings came up at the time of the incident.

40 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/28/2023

Falcon doors failure to open on numerous occasions since Dec. 2020. This is a very frequent issue and I've had it into Tesla 6 to 7 times, they say can't replicate issue, same this past week and 30 min after I got it back same issue. Heat and sun cause the doors to not open and it's getting worse. Aug 28, 2023 at 10:39 am and on thru Aug 30, 2023 on road trip to and from phoenix, az in indio CA I stopped for my kids to use the bathroom and neither door would open, override doesn't work and just shows "obstruction" even when there is nothing there, because my kids couldn't get out they were extremely stressed and almost wet themselves, every rest stop same thing, in phoenix something, on the return trip samething every rest stop and this time one of my kids was sick, thinking he needed to throw up and again the falcon doors wouldn't open. If I was able to find some shade I could get them to work however they would only open far enough so my kids ages 20 and 14 at the time could crawl in and out of them like a snake. This is totally unacceptable, what if my passengers needed to get out in an emergency, they couldn't. This past week I had it into Tesla and once again they are not fixed and the same issue again and again, I went so far as to tell Tesla to replace the sensors at my expense to see if that would fix the issue, they refused telling me they don't want to replace parts unless they are sure the parts are defective, Tesla once again just told me to bring it back if it happens again, 30 min after I picked it up the door issue returned but everytime I take it in they always say they cannot replicate the issue. This is a major safety issue and I would like the help of the NHTSA to assist me in this very serious issue, once again I'm very sure it's the sun and heat that are affecting the sensors, Tesla doesn't seem to really care.

41 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/27/2023

Our 2 year old son broke his left tibia after the falcon door automatically closed on his left foot/leg and it got caught between the door and his car seat. We believe he had his leg dangling off the car seat when we closed the door from the front command station. The door sensor did not stop or give any warning that there was anything in the way. He was seen in the emergency department after the incident and is in a full leg cast for at least 4 weeks. This is a major safety risk for other children/people if the doors cannot sense small limbs and stop appropriately. The car/door is available for inspection upon request. We have not contacted Tesla yet about this but will be calling them very soon. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone yet since the incident. There were no warnings prior to the incident occurring.

42 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

The Model X has doors that are electromechanically opened. The "door pop actuator" appears to be malfunctioning and the door can no longer be opened from the inside or the outside, creating a serious hazard for the driver in case of emergency. The only way to get into or out of the car is by crawling through the passenger door. I found others who had the same problem: https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/model-x-driver-side-door-wont-push-open. 271524/.

43 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/11/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, he noticed the rear fender had detached and fallen onto the ground. The contact stated that the driver's side front wheel well had also detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the parts were put back in place using adhesive. The contact stated that the front fender had detached previously but had been reinstalled using adhesive. The contact was unaware of the cause for the failure and why the dealer was using an adhesive to reinstall the parts. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,649.

44 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 07/26/2023

The vehicle's a/c system was not working as intended, noticing air is blowing very weak. The vehicle was took to Tesla service center and was told that rodents had gotten into the vehicle (not sure how) and chewed wire systems and air filters. Tesla reports the damages affected a/c systems and electrical control for the vehicle including auto pilot assistant. Cost of repair was $2020. 17, not covered by Tesla insurance.

45 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

My front trunk has been opening without any warning. It happened to open while I was driving (luckily not on a freeway) on 6/1/2023 around 415p. It did not open fully but my instrument panel warning light came on to warn me of this issue. I then pulled into a parking lot and closed the front trunk without any further issues that evening. I did not depress any buttons on my key fob and I was not using the touchscreen at the time of this incident which really concerned me. I have also noticed that the front trunk is opening when parked as well without any reason. I understand this has been an issue with other Tesla models so I am concerned that this may be a problem with my vehicle as well.

46 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 05/08/2023

This vehicle was subject to a recall NHTSA campaign number: 20v710. Tesla’s own number for this recall is sb-20-12-005. It appears the inspection carried out in 2021 apparently passed at the time and no corrections were made, however, the part in question recently last week. The center spine panel came apart. Tesla are not willing to accept any liability or responsibility even though they now that this recall exists. This is a safety matter and it appears that even though vehicles were inspected at the time and deemed to have passed they are still susceptible to having the part fail later on.

47 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 04/10/2023

In April, 10 2023 approximately 6:10 pm I had an traffic accident. My vehicle was parked at paid parking spot next to the pedestrian road (street parking) and I was approached from the back of the car and I recognized the bus approached from my backside of the road. I have no idea somehow, the front driver side door suddenly opened when I approached to my car about 4-5 feet away from the trunk, even though I did not pressed any door open button in my Tesla smartphone app. As a result, the opened door had collided to the la metro bus backdoor. I would like to NHTSA will investigate this faulty safety issue. Thank you.

48 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/21/2023

I recently traded in my 2017 Tesla Model X for a 2023 Tesla Model X. I am concerned the falcon wing doors on the 2023 Model X do not have the same safety features they did on the 2017 Model X, posing greater risk of injury and harm. My 10 year old daughter suffered a concussion when the falcon wing door opened, failed to detect her standing nearby, and hit her on the head. I brought the car into my local Tesla service center where we reproduced the behavior of the falcon wing door. I stood close to the door while a tech and sales representative observed as it hit me while it opened. However, after leaving the car with the service center to be evaluated, Tesla concluded the falcon wing doors were functioning as expected and told us it is our responsibility to stand clear of the doors and that while the doors have sensors, they do not cover all areas around the door. I escalated the claim beyond the service center to an internal Tesla engineering team and received an identical response. I am concerned that Tesla is not willing to reassess the sensor coverage of the falcon wing doors and that these doors could cause more harm. I drove a 2017 Model X for five years and never experienced a safety issue with the falcon wing doors. The doors on my previous Model X would stop if they detected the slightest obstacle. We always felt safe using them. The sensors seem to have changed on the 2023 Model X and the falcon wing doors are far less sensitive to objects and humans. This is very concerning. What is more concerning is Tesla's response indicating they don't intend to do anything about it. The falcon wing doors are heavy and automatic. They aren't manual doors that are easy to control. I believe it is Tesla's responsibility to make these doors as safe as possible and integrate complete coverage with door sensors. I am submitting this complaint in the hopes that it will result in getting Tesla to improve the safety of the falcon wing door sensor system.

49 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 01/05/2023

Falcon door windows leaked a ton of water into my vehicle, the falcon door window trim disintegrates. Tesla ended up saying it was the sealant on the window but would not cover it. This is a constant issue with Tesla Model X vehicles and all just dismiss it as a “thats just a Tesla” problem. They need to be held liable to repair faults in their manufactured products. There is absolutely no reason a consumer should be held liable for a seal on a window nor the trim on a window that disintegrates. That is not at the consumers fault, that is a Tesla problem.

50 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 12/24/2022

The left rear passenger window glass shattered spontaneously putting the passenger in the rear seat at risk of injury. This has been happening in Teslas as reported in these forums https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/rear-door-glass-spontaneously-shattering. 209972/ https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/model-y-rear-passenger-window-spontaneously-shattered. 252987/ https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/spontaneous-window-shatter. 271266/.

51 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

The rear back doors will not open. The car's computer says an obstacle is detected however there is no obstacle in the way of the doors. (I have a video to prove my claim) the safety of my passengers in the rear seat are at risk as they can not exit the car through the rear door. I have had the vehicle inspected by the dealer (Tesla) however they said they can not recreate what has happened. The warning light "obstacle detected" appeared however there was no obstacle in the way. After rebooting the car's computer it still happened. I was able to drive the vehicle to another location and try the back doors and then they finally opened. I feel the back doors should open any time and any place when the car is in park.

52 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

The passenger side back door does not open consistently leading to loss of egress. Although the other doors do function regularly, removing a child from a car seat is nearly impossible when accessing from another door. The door also struggles to close consistently, and has closed on my son in the past. The inconsistency of a functioning falcon wing door is a safety risk and it continues to worsen despite many attempts to repair the sensors. The Tesla service center has attempted to repair the door and sensors 4 times without success. The most recent service appointment they stated the door was not opening correctly because it was getting stuck in “indoor mode” sensing something over the top of the car. They replaced the sensor but the problem has not improved. I have notified Tesla of the ongoing issue multiple times without any response, even via certified mail with proof of delivery. There are no warning lamps, beeps or any notifications showing an error in door function.

53 Body problem of the 2019 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/01/2022

My rear passenger doors were unable to open. The falcon wing doors could not be opened leaving my child trapped inside. The child locks were on but I could not open the doors from inside or outside the vehicle even if I tried overriding the system. I attempted a vehicle restart and that did not resolve the issue. Finally I turned off the child locks and reached inside the vehicle from the driver door and held the open button on the rear door. The door still would not open up but did pop open a couple inches. I had to physically lift the door up against the resistance of the electric motors to get my child out. I did open a service request with Tesla but I do not feel safe driving this vehicle if the doors are ever unable to be opened.

54 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

Obstacle detected error code. It shows this when trying to open rear falcon wing door. No obstacles or anything around. I’ve researched and it’s a very common problem with these cars and the door sensors.

55 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/24/2022

The front cover (frunk) keep opening even when the car moving , which is easily can block the ability to see cars infringe of you , I tried to reach the dealer services and they told me that they are so busy and it will take time to fix my car , the problem that I have to drive the car to go work and the dealer would not give a me a sooner time to fix this issue , it is a serious problem and can easily cause car accidents , I try to minimize the use of my car but I still have to show up for work . The front cover keep opening 8-12 times a day even if the car is closed and locked !!! but she I saw that it opens while your driving I think this is a serious issue and it has to be reported and the dealer need to take car if this issue ASAP, it is a brand new car and it should not have these problems , this car spent more than 30 days at the service for different problems ( paint, seat belt , falcon wing that doest close ) and now this issue!!!.

56 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/17/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while opening the passenger cycling wind door of the vehicle for his daughter, the center spine applique detached inadvertently and hit the passenger upper and rear glass window, causing it to shatter. The contact's daughter who was near the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was taken to the local service center where it was diagnosed that the failure was associated with Tesla technical service bulletin number: sb-20-12-005. The service center informed the contact that he would need to pay a repair fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,209.

57 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/16/2022

While the vehicle was parked in my garage, after I removed a car seat from the rear driver side passenger seat, the door would not lock and stay closed. Because of this the vehicle would stay on and continue to give me a drivers side rear passenger door open alert. When I attempted to drive the vehicle, it would constantly give me a warning that the door was open and a distractive noise alert would activate that hindered or disturbed my ability to concentrate on the road. I went to the Tesla pomona service center and they insisted that it was safe to drive and road worthy. While on the freeway I could hear air come into the vehicle and I could also smell diesel exhaust. Whenever I parked the vehicle, the vehicle would remain on and unlocked, which would drain the battery.

58 Body problem of the 2019 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 07/22/2022

When in direct sunlight in temperatures above 80 f rear doors (referred to as falcon wing doors, fwd) will not open reporting an “obstacle detected” error. The on-screen manual override will not work in this situation. You just use the interior physical control on the pillar near the door you are trying to open. For this control to work you must disable the child protection control. Manually raising the door therefore requires several intermediate steps including disabling a basic safety mechanism. On top of all that, the door takes up to 20 seconds to open using the manual override. I have had the issue repaired on 3 separate occasions and it is still not fixed. I would also note the the 2018 Tesla Model X we previously owned had the same problem.

59 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/03/2022

I ordered a new Tesla x on 01/10/2021 and I just received it on 06/03/2022. I can’t believe that the car passed quality inspection (I found that the passenger falcon door can’t close unless I override the door to close from the driver seat and non of the closing bottoms works in addition to safety seat built is not even attached to it seat!! these issues should be fixed on the spot (actually I should not receive $110000 car in with a safety issues and I should get it serviced on the spot but they kept telling me that I have to make an appointment through the Tesla app and I have to wait weeks before the fix the safety issues. This is my second Tesla and I found that the Tesla x quality is much worse than the Tesla y. The Tesla x (VIN number is 7saxcae57nf344114).

60 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/27/2022

Falcon doors missing from ui. While on highway going highway speed, piece of the roof flew off car.

61 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 02/28/2022

The side mirrors opened unexpectedly while backing out of the garage causing damage to the right side mirror. The side mirrors typically opens after we have driven a few feet from our house. I reported the issue to Tesla with date and time of the incident, Tesla representative confirmed that the car computer gave a command to open the mirror but unable to explain any further root cause analysis and taking responsibility for the glitch that caused the damage. Tesla declined to state this in writing. The real concern is what is Tesla's responsibility when a serious crash and damage happens due to another glitch. Additionally Tesla is not being transparent and decline to take responsibility for defects in their product.

62 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 12/14/2021

There was a recall to replace the center spine applique on Nov 16 2020. Recall # 20v710000. I brought the car in for replace on Feb 3, 2021. They refused to replace, saying it was safe to drive. I brought the car in for ac service on dec14 and asked them to replace the center spine applique due to a 6in long hair line cracked. Again then refused to replace. Now they ask me to pay 599. 16 if they replace it. Please see 2 attached screenshots for your reference!.

63 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 12/12/2021

Rear spoiler is made of aluminum and is corroded. The roof leaks water.

64 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/20/2021

Dealing with 2 major safety issues and innumerable minor issues with our Model X. The first major safety issue involves our right falcon wing door. It will not properly open because it is sensing an obstruction that’s not there. The mobile tech told us that something inside the door has become disconnected causing the issue - clearly something that is occurring frequently. I’m struggling to get the vehicle repaired with Tesla and very worried that my kids will become trapped in an emergency. The second major issue is the front axles grinding down over time. My car is only 3. 5 years old. My front axles have already been replaced once. They are beginning to make the “clunking” sound loudly enough that it is clear they need to be replaced again. Again, Tesla will make it incredibly difficult to get in and get the needed repairs on my vehicle.

65 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/28/2021

Rear passager falcon door does not consistently close on on the first attempt. Would need a second or multiple pressing of the button to close. The wing door scrapes the c- pillar and is misaligned. Apparently, there is a flaw in the calibration and sensors. Every time I close the wing, I have to wait around to make sure it is completely closed. Frequently, the wing just gets stuck halfway and the passenger has to go over the side to exit or enter. The other door operates perfectly fine. This is unsafe because it makes it more difficult for passengers to get out of the car if the door refuses to open or close completely as it should. Have taken the vehicle to the service center and complained multiple times. Telsa simply says it operates within their standards, which is absurd. They suggest cutting the glass on the c pillar to stop the scraping, and pay for it out of my own pocket even though it's still under warranty.

66 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/14/2021

My vehicle was being repaired by a collision repair shop to replace the front bumper and grill. When they finished the repair and were calibrating all the sensors, they discovered that the driver door would not latch consistently. When it did latch, during test drives by the collision employees it would fail while driving down the road and the door would open on the highway. They could not return the vehicle to me until the door issue was fixed. They attempted to fix it by replacing the door actuator once that part arrived from Tesla. That also did not fix the problem. After contacting Tesla they were told it is a known problem for which a retrofit latch kit is needed. Tesla would not repair the latch without payment for the kit parts and labor to install it as the car was out of warranty. The total bill was $820, including $310 for parts and $455 for labor. In my opinion this should be a required safety recall for the Model X as it allows the driver and passenger doors to open while the vehicle is underway. Note: as I was not driving I can not report the approximate speed. The mileage and date is an estimate as the vehicle was under the care of the collision repair shop when the incident occurred and was reported to me.

67 Body problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/02/2021

The fender garnish on both the driver and passenger side of the car is falling apart. The adhesive on the fender garnish fell apart and was hanging off the side near the wheels. It was replaced by Tesla on 8/2/21(driver side) and 9/11/21(passenger side), and now on 10/4/21 both fender garnishes are falling apart yet again! on 10/5/21, the Tesla technician looked at the replaced fender garnishes and is ordering another set. This continues to be a safety risk because the fender garnishes are detaching near the wheels and can cause an accident. No messages or warning lamps were given to the driver prior to the fender garnishes detaching, other than the driver and nearby passengers noticing the detached fender garnishes.

68 Body problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 05/15/2021

Front passenger door mechanism doesn’t function properly . Door only opens when pulling on interior door handle. Service department stated it’s a common problem with the door actuators failing and it needs to be replaced.

69 Body problem of the 2019 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 05/09/2021

On 5/2/21, I purchased a used 2019 Model X from an Audi dealer in florida. I am a us citizen with a legal drivers license in the state of florida. On 5/2/21, I submitted an ownership transfer request via the Tesla website, I included all the requested documents to verify ownership, including my FL drivers license, registration, picture of the odometer, and I even added some photos of the car itself. On 5/9/21, I was forcibly locked out of my vehicle by Tesla motors while I was parked far away from my home. On 5/9/21, I called Tesla roadside for help, explained I had a one year old baby in arms, was standing under the sun, could not reach into my vehicle. I was told they could not verify ownership. I explained I had to access my vehicle, I had both keys with me and was able to verify anything they needed, I was told they could not verify ownership. I was told it was a security matter and that since they could not verify ownership the vehicle was now locked and not accessible, even though I legally owned it and had both keys in hand. On 5/9/21, I spent 6 hours and several hundreds of dollars trying get a tow to my home, and trying to get inside of it to grab my belongings. I failed. The vehicle is parked at that location, I'm unable to access my vehicle, that I paid for, that I legally own, because "Tesla motors" cannot verify ownership.

70 Body problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/18/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Tesla Model X. The contact stated that while driving over a puddle of water at 35 mph, the front passenger side wheel body trim detached from the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer Tesla service center (8280 castleton corner dr, indianapolis, in 46250) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
