While traveling at highway speeds from colorado to texas and from texas back to colorado my car continuously slammed on the brakes without warning while the autopilot(cruise control) was engaged. There was no visible evidence or object in common for each event. What made this dangerous is any untied objects in the car would shift forward and the vehicles behind me would have to slam on their brakes as well. On a few occasions it changed lanes with no cars in front of me.
Phantom braking multiple times at highway speeds while on a 3840 mile road trip. Autopilot including cruise control were on. The car would suddenly brake very hard. I don't know if it would have stopped completely or not because I always took control immediately.
During a recent road-trip we experienced “phantom braking” twice while our cruise control was engaged. The first episode occurred on 8/4/23 when we were on a 4 lane highway (395) just north of reno. Fortunately no other vehicles were close to us, the car suddenly decelerated from 75 to 40 mph pulling to the right. The second episode, on 8/7/23, with similar road circumstances. The sudden braking occurred while using cruise control, but this time took us from 75-0 pulling us to the right. Our luggage flew forward, tires screeched, and we smelled rubber/brakes?? when we got out to pull back the contents of the cargo space. It was very frightening. I have since read of many similar incidence occurring with Tesla’s tied to self driving and cruise control. After an assessment at the local Tesla dealership (bend, or) today they found nothing wrong with the car but acknowledged that the phantom braking is occurring and Tesla engineering is “working on it”. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way for consumers to opt out of the autopilot (adaptive) portion of cruise control. We feel this is a dangerous situation.
Speed control set to 65mph car suddenly stops , with nothing in front of it. I needed to step on accelerator to have car move forward. This has happened many times. Safety, I have notified Tesla, they have not corrected problem.
While on both adaptive cruise control and autopilot the vehicle suddenly and dangerously emergency braked on a clear and open freeway with no visible cars or obstacles in sight. Our safety was compromised as it caused us to almost lose control of the vehicle and terrified the passengers. Had there been any vehicles behind us it would have possibly caused a collision at high speed. Have not taken the vehicle back to the dealership yet but others I know with a Tesla have had similar experiences and the dealer has been unhelpful. The vehicle had only around 1200 miles on it and shows no other signs of issues or warnings.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that on three separate occasions while driving at approximately 75 mph with the adas and adaptive cruise control activated, the vehicle experienced phantom braking with the accelerator pedal depressed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.
While using cruise control on the highway, the car suddenly decelerated twice. Each time the cruise control was set around 78mph, and it decelerated to approximately 70mph. No warnings were issued before, during, or after the decelerations— the car continued as if nothing had happened.
While in simple autopilot mode (not full self driving) the vehicle had two episodes of phantom braking at freeway speeds of 80 mph. On one occasion it applied the brakes when a car passed me going in the same direction. On the other occasion there were no vehicles anywhere in the vicinity and it applied the brakes for no reason. I took the car to the Tesla service center and they said they are aware of the phantom braking issue but have no fix for it. They recommended I use the autopilot again and file a report at exactly the time it occurs again. So, basically risk getting killed so I can file a report for them for a problem they can't fix. The car brakes without any warning whatsoever. It's absurd, Tesla claims full self driving cars and they can't even get simple adaptive cruise control to work safely.
Repeated phantom braking when using adaptive cruise control. This happened at least 10 times in one day and is a safety issue. Most recent software update seems to have made this problem worse not better.
I have the latest software for fsd, 2023. 7. 20. I was driving north on 71 in ohio, there are three lanes of traffic. I was in the right hand lane at the speed limit under fsd. There were no cars in front of me and no objects on the roadside. There were cars in front of me in the center and left hand lane. Suddenly the brakes were applied very hard, fortunately the SUV that was behind me was able to slow and move to the middle lane. The speed went from 70 to about 35. My wife, as the sole passenger will never ride in the car again.
Went on a 3,000 miles road trip and recorded countless bugs and safety issues. To keep this short and sweet because I’m pretty sure I’ve already broken the world record for dot reports on a car without any intervention here’s some bullet points. 1. Car is falling extremely short of claimed mileage range. 2. Car refuses to charge or charges slow. 3. Gps is constantly wrong and sending me down dirt roads and trying to put me miles out of my way by giving wrong directions on purpose. 4. Car cannot switch lanes in autopilot despite perfect visibility during night and day. 5. Car keeps slamming on the brakes with people behind me or in my blind spot for no apparent reason. 6. Car keeps telling me that charging stations are offline or unavailable and when I pull up it’s a bunch of lies and there are open spots and the car charges. 7. Whenever I pull up to a charger it always happens to be the highest energy cost of the day. 8. Car sends me to wrong charging locations despite me selecting certain charging stations manually. 9. Car keeps making an awful scratching sound when music is paused or song changed. 10. Car keeps banning me from full self driving because the autopilot isn’t working properly even though I disabled fsd. 11. Car is constantly putting off a ton of heat to the point it raises my garage to over 100f. 12. Cars overheat protection mode doesn’t work properly and never has. 13. Car summon can’t make it 4 feet without side swiping the car next to it in the parking lot. 14. Car fails to see all emergency vehicles with or without lights on like a ghost car that doesn’t exist. 15. Ac is inaccurate and is either not reaching temp and the ac is roaring so loud I can’t hear anything but the air moving or is so cold myself and passengers start shivering. 16. Charging takes twice as long as advertised and never charges advertised speed like 150-250kwh 17. Full self driving can’t drive me more than 2 minutes without trying to kill me so I disabled it.
Phantom breaking problem with Tesla y occurred on i90 between rapid city and sioux falls sd, June 2nd between 1 and 2 pm when my wife and I were traveling across country. I was passing a semi-truck in the left lane and traveling at about 80 mph (the speed limit) with a pickup truck following me. I was using tacc (assisted cruise control) without the autosteer function, when the Tesla y slammed on the breaks. It was a panic type of stop and everything in the back seat flew forward and both my wife were shaken. I quickly pressed on the accelerator and was able to increase our speed quickly, but we were almost rear ended by the pickup truck that was following us. I noticed the semi-truck was all red on the Tesla screen and I assume the Tesla computer thought it was a potential collision. After passing the truck I pulled into the right lane. The pickup behind passed me pulled into the right lane and then proceeded to break while he was in front of me. He was not happy and I could not blame him. This almost caused a road rage incident as well. Thankfully nothing happened but it was very close to becoming an accident.
I was driving on the highway with autopilot activated. There were no cars in front, beside or behind me. A car did come up behind me at a fast speed. My car suddenly started to brake (phantom braking). The car coming up behind me sped around me. There was no reason for the car to brake like that.
Adaptive cruise control with auto steer will without warning or noticable reason suddenly decelerate the vehicle. At highway speeds from 70 to sudden deceleration to 30 mph if the accelerator pedal isn't pushed immediately when it slows without warning. Sometimes with vehicles behind. There has been some close calls but no accidents.
When traveling on cruise control the car will suddenly break in the middle of the road even though there are no vehicles, pedestrians, or threats.
Leaving mothers day dinner at disney orlando with all 3 generations of family in the car and I click 'home' and the map sets a charging station in miami 120miles away in the wrong direction, the fsd and ap wont work and the cars gps goes completely black. That doesn't even make sense, there was the hooter's supercharger down the street and several others in miami and probably a dozen more between disney and miami. If I wasn't a professional driver I fear this many bugs and susceptibilities could kill my entire lineage. Texting and driving is illegal and dangerous, that's got nothing on a malfunctioning Tesla screen while driving main street disney. Look out king charles there's a new kid on the block, elon musk doesn't need a tunnel to disappear your whole family. He can do it in broad daylight on mainstreet disney in front of the police, god and the NHTSA and after you report it 30 times nobody will do anything about it. . Read more...
For the last 8 months I've been reporting this fatal error where my Tesla in fsd with location set will slow down all the way to 0mph in a 70mph zone on the expressway for a stop sign and round about under the highway that is not visible by any of the cameras the car is supposedly using to 'read the environment' well that's a load of crap because its stopping for non existent stop signs and driving 57mph in a 70mph zone and misses several speed signs in the video. Biggest mistake Tesla ever made was not hiring me. Tesla has amateur's and liars that will do anything for an extra buck even if it means killing you and your family with a car that was put together by robots and slaves with your tax dollars. Zero ethics. When elon says "may the 4th be with you" he really means "I hope you get killed by the dumptruck behind you while I slam the brakes on the highway". Modern day techno-hitler. . Once again I caught on video my car trying to suicide me (a jeffrey epstein (not a typo I'm in fear for my life) witness) by turning off all safety features and attempting to drive me directly into oncoming traffic. Tesla has refused to repair or replace my car. They have done everything they can to prevent me from getting service for months. Reschedule after reschedule, 'we cant reproduce the problem' and 'the car is fixed' after recording them doing nothing on hidden camera for 3 days besides unplugging my dashcam after I told them on my ig that I was recording them and they agreed because its clearly posted on the door used to enter and unplug the camera. This is racketeering, tampering with a witness and attempted murder not to mention conspiracy to defraud the us government with false advertisements to convince blind and corrupt politicians to give elon another round of government subsidies even though co2 isn't the problem, methane is! as you can see in the video the cars path is stuck in the ":kill yourself with oncoming traffic" mode. Its a feature that is activated on my Tesla way more than I have video evidence like this to prove it. . Read more...
We were driving down I-5 and the highway was clear ahead of us and we were driving with adaptive cruise control. The Tesla suddenly applied harsh brakes without anything ahead of us.
Since the day I got it the Tesla hasn't been able to identify emergency vehicles with their lights on. I started video taping after like the 20th time because my dashcam cant show you the screen also. I did this strictly to display that the Tesla failed to identify a state trooper with his lights on for several hundred feet with 'full self driving' enabled. Just to be clear the car is on the current software update and has always been up to date. Tesla is once again lying about the cars capabilities and putting innocent police officers and random civilians at risk of serious bodily injury or death. . Read more...
Driving in northeast colorado on I-76 both when traveling east ( on 4/27/23) and west (on 5/1/23). Severe phantom braking with speed dropping 10-15 mph in an instant and objects in the car flying forward as a result. No specific hazards were obvious. These occurred while traveling to and from haxtun, CO from lakewood, CO. I am concerned that the car braking in such a severe manner could lead to a collision with vehicles behind me.
The car radio keeps freezing on songs insulting me or wont play music at all. After resetting the car while driving for the 937,845,609,238,457,609,823,756,098,273,546,908,723,549,068th time the car started playing "car radio" a song about a guys car radio being stolen and the silence making him want to pull the steering wheel and kill himself in a car accident. Shortly after this the car radio played "kill yourself on a beach" on my daily trip to mcdonalds because it's all I can afford while slowly going bankrupt driving this Tesla on uber because of all the 'defects' and false advertising if you can even call it anything other than intentional punishment for whistleblowing at this point. Tampering with a witness is a 3rd degree felony federal offense punishable by up to 5 years in prison with a $5,000 fine. Photo attached. . Read more...
While using adaptive cruise control on a highway about every 30 miles or so the car would suddenly slam on the brakes. The speed limits on these highways were between 65-75 miles per hour. There was not anything in the road or vehicles in front of our car. It was very scary and distracting for the driver and passengers. If a car or truck had been following closer to our vehicle we could have been in a bad accident. The day was sunny and clear so there wasn’t any weather to have caused these issues or cause the cameras to be blocked.
Same fatal error I've been reporting for over 6 months and about 10 "over the air updates" yes we all really 'needed' more ways to make fart and poop sounds and open our rainbow led buttholes by voice command but what id really like is for literally anyone in all of America to do their job! maybe if someone would do an investigation into to how much fraud there is at literally every level of Tesla from the very top all the way to the pathetic worms at the bottom that somehow find the one vertebrae they have left to continue lying to protect the bank account of a lying megalomaniac. Maybe they would investigate how Tesla vehicles can be used as remote operated drones to kamakazi themselves and kill anyone in the vehicle you don't like or even worse they could hack it thru the radio and use it to crash into literally anyone on the road as described by elon himself and the fbi when asked about drone technology. I mean if elon musk is allowed to spy on all of planet earth without their consent, freeze their car radio, miss every auto payment for 8 months, keep your car in an overflow lot for 3 days on hidden camera and never work on it once 5 times, make your car stop on the highway 50 time, stop your car from charging at home with your own charger in your own house then why does anyone follow any rules? why don't we all just go out in the street and rob and kill and rape anyone whos dumb enough to believe that a car can drive itself? really tho why do I even bother doing any of this everyone on the internet just calls me a stupid, fat, retarded, fag, elon fan, fuckboy. So like why would you ever buy a Tesla. It's made by slaves for f sake! I'm a slave for uber, Tesla and apple. Slavery is real. I lost $28,000 last year doing 1,000 uber and lyft rides in an electric car that's supposed to save money on gas but actually costs more than gas if you use a supercharger. Worst purchase in my entire life by far. . Read more...
Car slamming on breaks multiples times while in cruise control. No obstacles ahead and we could have been rear ended.
My car while on cruise control on freeways on road trips has suddenly braked over 22 times with no cars I front of me. It’s scary and almost causing accidents wirh cars behind me. I am taking car to Tesla next week, but this issue has continued over and over.
Car making sudden braking moves while on trip using cruise control. I tried several different lanes and actions but braking persisted and cruise control discontinued. No damage or injury. Tesla has known phantom braking problem braking. We were at risk to be rear ended. I will contact Tesla next.
•water leak from under the dash (potential electrical hazard) (available for inspection) •window regulator malfunctions (available for inspection) •front suspension noise (potential handling issue) (available for inspection) •persistent rattle or squeak (available for inspection) •autopilot failures and power steering issues (including excessive vibration and unexpected braking) (available for inspection) •constant noise and vibration (available for inspection) *autopilot failures and power steering issues (including excessive vibration and unexpected braking): this can lead to a loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident. *water leak from under the dash (potential electrical hazard): if water damages electrical components, it could cause the car to stall or malfunction while driving. *front suspension noise (potential handling issue): a failing suspension system could compromise the vehicle's handling, making it more difficult to control during maneuvers or emergencies. * been submitted for repairs at a Tesla maintenance center on multiple occasions. " this suggests Tesla has acknowledged the issues and attempted to fix them. ** concerning behavior: autopilot failures: the autopilot system unexpectedly disengaged or made erratic maneuvers while engaged. False object detection: the autopilot camera system falsely detected objects on the road, leading to unnecessary braking or swerving ** warning lights: it is particularly concerning that these issues were not accompanied by any warning lights on the dashboard.
1. Phantom braking occurring often and no release date for firmware update. Not sure how to avoid rear end collision even when attentive. 2. Inaccurate speed limits, forward collision warnings, inaccurate green light chimes. 3. Autowiper which is working for other manufacturers over decade is beta in Tesla. Previous 5 service center visits confirm as working and in 6th visit they say as beta. This is cheating customers. Using display screen to control frequency is distraction in wet roads.
I experience three incidents of phantom braking while on a recent trip. The car was on autopilot (I do not have fsd), on an open road with zero cars in sight. Two were incidents where the car went from 69 mph to 50 mph for no reason. The third was even more severe when the car went to 30 mph from 70 mph. The incident was reported to Tesla and their response after diagnosing remotely is as follows: "there are no hardware issues with your car. At the times provided your vehicle detected another vehicle in the lane which was the source of the slow down. There are known limitations of autopilot at this time. The performance of autopilot will be improved over time. Currently, autopilot may react more conservatively than a human driver in situations where it is thought an object may be entering your vehicle’s path. It is more desirable to have a false positive than a false negative. ” I want to reiterate once again there were zero cars in sight when this happened. Dates for these events were on March 31, 2023 and April 1, 2023.
The problem I will describe has been noted over several months, but I will focus on events observed today, March 31, 2023. I was driving from salt lake city to reno, nv on interstate 80. Weather conditions were partly cloudy, 40-55f, dry roads, light traffic. While driving at highway speeds of 70-80 mph using the cars adaptive cruise, the car would repeatedly brake sharply and almost violently, causing me to hit the brake pedal to remove the vehicle from cruise for fear of being rearended. This generally occurred when there was no traffic in front of me, with perfectly clear roads, no debris or obstructions if any kind. The car also braked slightly during this drive, dropping speed maybe 10-15 mph before resuming. These abrupt and inexplicable braking incidents occurred so frequently, probably 20 times or so, that I stopped using cruise control for fear of an accident. This has not yet been reported to Tesla, and has not been investigated. However, I wanted to report this because I feel it is an extreme safety hazard.
Same issue I've been reporting several months. This morning I downloaded yet another software update, got in my car, drove to chick-fil-a on a Sunday because Tesla has not fixed this fatal braking bug on the highway for a non-existent round-a-bout so I use that for the car to navigate to. The car tries to get on the state road instead of the highway so I cancel and take over and drive onto the highway/expressway myself. After a couple miles the fsd finally takes over in a 70mph zone and reduces my speed to 45mph and stays at 45mph while passing several 70mph signs it clearly sees in its own 'Tesla vision' on the map in ar(augmented reality). I cancel and speed back up to 70 before the next overpass where the car puts its hazards on, pulls into the slow lane, says it's executing a round-a-bout. Comes to a complete stop on the highway with hazards while in the travel lane, cars whipping past me on the driver side. Then the car starts yelling at me to grab the wheel which I've never let go of during this entire event so I shake the wheel vigorously left and right and the car does not process that I'm holding the wheel (this is so Tesla can commit fraud when they blame it on the driver and buy more time because NHTSA rules aren't up-to-date on software patches and NHTSA needs to just recall all fsd because Tesla has displayed inability to repair) then to add the cherry on top while the car is stopped on the highway, yelling at me to pay attention while I'm shaking the wheel; I press the door open button and my door opens into the fast lane; allowing the (inattentive driver) to unconsciously fall onto the highway in the fast lane at 0mph while not in drive. I have been reporting these vulnerabilities for months specifically the bluetooth radio vulnerability that was just proven in a hacking competition where Tesla awarded a new car and $350,000 for a vulnerability I was reporting 6 months before. Hello, me again! so I downloaded the newest software update and in less than 24 hours and less than 1 hour of using 'full self driving' and 'auto pilot' before the car tried to kill me and other people as usual. Same road I've been reporting for months 429 eastbound and westbound (sanford FL) the car will confuse 429 with sr46 (1,000ft north) and when it gets to any of the overpasses with round-a-bouts underneath the bridge the car starts to stop on the highway (0mpg in a 70mph zone). This is absolutely terrifying; what's even more terrifying is that Tesla is claiming the cars fsd works on 'artificial intelligence' but that is a lie because the car and Tesla have not learned from my many reports and have made zero changes. The only good change they made was my suggestion to Tesla in one of my many complaints about this lemon car they ripped me off on is allowing me to send them a 10 second voice clip describing what went wrong in the car (which once again was my idea) when actually using it sometimes my heartrate is still so high from cars whipping past me 70mph while I'm going 0mph that its hard to even articulate in words what happened so quickly; assuming Tesla even reviews the report and makes changes which they haven't for about 6 months of me reporting it. Car still tries to drive me off road over a transformer at home that is clearly visible on Tesla gps map which could turn the car into a bomb (so I was told by an uber passenger who works on transformers and was leaving an osha meeting about a transformer blowing up on him and his coworkers). 9/10 times it's right but I know its not truly 'intelligent' because why would it ever revert to a path I've canceled so many times? I'm calling Tesla's bluff and also they deleted me after applying to the ai engineer job posting on their website when I started reporting these errors because Tesla doesn't really care about their customers like me. Car randomly slams on the brakes while cruise control is active. Happen most frequently mid-day while the sun is out. Most frequent when coming over and overpass or small hill on the interstate. ~5 time in a day and of travel. Brake are apply and vehicle slows from 80 to sometime as slow as 60 in a couple seconds. No visible hazards or vehicle on the road at the time. Very scary and dangerous. Contacted Tesla about it and they said a software update would fix it, still happening since I purchase last June and reported in July.
Phantom breaking on autopilot. Car experienced sudden breaking from approximately 80mph to 30 mph.
