1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The frame on my 2005 Toyota 4runner is severely rusted. I have had multiple pieces fall off my SUV, some while driving. This includes the front skid plate, transmission lines, and other small components. The frame on my SUV is coming apart. Rather large pieces are flaking off. It is plain to see where the metal is separating. I recently discovered that the front impact sensors have rusted loose of the frame and are now dangling free. This leaves my SUV susceptible to the airbags not inflating during a front-end crash. The above has been occurring over the last few years. I have opened case #1707170870 with Toyota, but they have told me that there is no remedy for my vehicle.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Vehicle has abnormal amount of rust on frame metal parts with excessive chipping an corrosion. Also, of almost more concern is that the airbag sensors are completely rotted through, as if they were sacrificial anodes. Frame failure due to abnormal rust could cause a catastrophic accident. Sensor failure of the airbag sensors (behind front bumper) while driving could cause serious injury or death to driver or other cars on the road. I have never seen anything like this amount of corrosion.

Failure Date: 04/30/2008

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 11/20/2006

: the contact stated while driving at any speed or at rest and on normal road condition, the passenger side air bag illuminated off. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who indicated when the rear seat was folded and the front passenger seat touched the rear seat, the front passenger air bag becomes deactivated. The owner manual also indicated in page 92 of this characteristic. The dealership determined this was the way the air bag system was designed. The dealership recommended when the space was required for cargo instead of folding the rear seat, it should be removed or the front seat should be pulled forward to avoid contact with the rear seat, however this suggestion was not practical because it made the passenger very uncomfortable. The manufacturer was contacted, but the customer service line did not know anything about this air bag defect. Updated 12/28/2006 -.
